  • We continue our motorhome road trip in the south of Norway and incredible views more than make up for the tricky driving conditions. We quickly discover the downside of being on windy and narrow scenic roads in a motorhome during the busiest part of the year in Norway.
    ABOUT US:
    Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African Italian couple, who have been travelling together for almost 20 years, to more than 40 countries. In 2018 we gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions in order to explore the world as full-time nomads.
    Over the past year, we have travelled through 11 countries in Europe with our 20-year-old Motorhome. We’ve now started our journey south from Scandinavia, planning to travel the length of Italy with our sights set on reaching Morocco by the end of the year. Please subscribe to follow along and join us on our adventure!

    I think it's a good decision guys, The wife and I have done Norway, Sweden and Finland a few times and we always made it a summer thing, Arriving in the South of Sweden the first week of June, touring around then leaving first of second week of September as it starts to get cold. One trip we made the arctic circle on June 21st and were luckily it was clear sky's and was able to see 24 hours of sunlight, magic. As you say such long distances. Great camera work btw. Hope all is well with the brakes. 🙂

      Like you say, we probably should have arrived in Sweden much earlier than we did. We should also have travelled with more purpose - especially Norway is very different - we sort of treated it like an 'extension' of our full-time motorhome life. That was a mistake. Thank you for the comment and feedback! ❤

    Hi, driving mountain roads in Norway you must do most of your breaking by letting the motor do the work. 🙏🏻 Use lover gear going down. Breaks are just to regulate and topping the brake effect. If not.. yes hot breaks.. and even more important in vinter. As overheated breaks kan look up if cooled down to quickly when parked in snow. Hope you have not ben scared off, so many nice places to see in Norway, and we like to think it is a good country for motorhome camping. If you go, I hope we see you back here sometime later. Good drone filming, like your production, have a good time what ever you choose 😉👍🏻

      Thank you for the tips! We've definitely not been scared of from Norway and will come back for sure. 👃❤ We've realized we should have treated the Norway leg of our trip with more purpose and we vastly underestimated how long it took to get around. Sadly the brake issue really forced our hands a bit to not go further north - this time.

    Really enjoying your journey! We have just got back from our first ever trip with a hired Motorhome. This was such a useful experience as it really helped us work out what was important to us in a Motorhome. As newbies we learnt so much and hope your videos can continue to guide us on our future journeys.

      Hi Sharon! Glad to hear that your first experience was a positive one and that you enjoyed the trip! We're all learning as we go and this way of travelling can be incredibly rewarding. It's a little bit different if you do it full-time but we find it a wonderful way to explore Europe. Regards to both of you ❤

      @@WeWillNomad Thank you 🙏 We are looking at planning a very long trip ourselves but will dip our toe in closer to home and shorter journeys before we go on the road on a similar journey. 😊

    I have driven on Norwegian roads for almost 50 years and have never had problems with the brakes. Use low gear when driving downhill from the mountains. Very important! Now you know and welcome back. 😊

      Thank you! The problem with excessive braking had more to do with the constant oncoming traffic on narrow sections. It meant slowing down all the time, sometimes even stopping completely. It might be much simpler with a narrower vehicle. Unfortunately, our old motorhome also has fairly simple brakes which is probably completely inadequate for long descents. We would LOVE to get back to Norway soon. There's nowhere like it.

    Mountain roads are stunning. Driving down hill you must control your speed by motor, if you use contaisly brakes they heat up and you might lose them.

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really is an incredibly beautiful landscape. The high volume of traffic also adds to a lot of unnecessary braking. Thank you for the comment ❤

    I often see Tourists come to my own country and want to see it all in a few weeks. This causes them to spend all their time driving on very demanding roads and not fully enjoying what is on offer. I think they would be better picking a region to explore? That way they would enjoy it more, drive safer and we can welcome them back to explore another region later.

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! You are spot on! We made a similair observation in our last Norway video. Our mistake was to treat Norway is the same way as we have been travelling other countries and merely an 'extension' of our full-time travel. That doesn't work in Norway. We should have been more goal and region orientated and should have treated Norway with the respect it's vast size and challenging terrain demands.

    Such a shame. The scenery was gorgeous.
    But at least this video explained more clearly your abrupt departure from Norway. I just couldn't understand it but I am watching these videos out of order (sorta back tracking)

    • @WeWillNomad

      Absolutely stunning scenery. We weren't prepared for Norway and we messed up. We should have travelled with more purpose - we sort of treated Norway like an 'extension' of our full-time motorhome life. That was a mistake.

      @@WeWillNomad well now you know AND others can learn from your mistakes 🤗 (that's genuine, not being bitchy). And anyway, obviously others do Norway in motorhomes (witness that Italian motorcade); personally I'm voting a converted suv camper, but that's just my opinion
