Hey guys! I have been lately seeing a ton of people discussing fishing luck in chat, and as you would expect there are a ton of gambler fallacies going around, but in a game, especially one like New World that uses dice rolls for almost every action, and loot bucket, there are true real numbers involved, so I made this guide to help explain how to catch targeted fish, like oysters more often. I also wanted people to have the ability to focus gear to catch whatever they are after, and how it works. I hope this help!!!
Hello 5 Head Survival Gaming thank you for making the video. I hope you can help me and my crew out with a question that has been a problem now for a couple of days with New World. The " Vial of Suspended Azoth " it can be used to give Azoth for fast travel and it seems to be glitched out and not working. I was wondering if a hotfix or update patch would be in the works to help out the player base?

I tested this tonight and if u can get a 3 star hotspot it’s great with lots of oysters. The problem is they are heavily camped and depleted and you too rarely get oysters without the hotspot active even with full luck. 1 & 2 star spots don’t get much. Probably only worth doing on a lower pop server or inactive time period. M10s are best money maker imo. Sell rare gear
What's the optimal territory and water type to fish in ? Like, what out of all the possibilities, should I go for if my sole aim is to make as much money as fast as possible? (Considering I do have all the best fishing gear, just meaning I don't have to use if it not necessary) is it targetting oysters?

Understanding luck seems to be a dark area altogether, judging from forum posts, other youtubers and websites.

Hey so it might help some of the other solos out there that only have one house or are currently low on gear but want to farm oysters for gold. Currently 350 a piece on my server. I was able to hit the 22,500 luck threshold with other arrangements. My main one being Aged Wood Pole (no enchants) 7,500 Luck + 1 Major Fishing Trophy 5,000 Luck + Glowworm Bait 8,500 Luck and one piece of Lucky Waters II on a piece of gear. Trophy cost 3,250k (ish) and gear was from the Fishing Quest line. Althought gear was relatively cheap on my server (Isabella) at around 25-50 a piece for Lucky Waters Gear (couldn't find any lvl 1 Lucky Waters for other arrangements). I still pull some greens from 3 ⭐ Spots. But I have gotten 6 Oysters in about 50 pulls. Which is I sold now would net 18-20hundred.
Just came from your fish roe farm video. Timing couldnt have been better. I was considering trying a no trophy farm to see if i could catch the lower tier fish but youve got all the math done already. 👍
Really good one. Tried your setup (3 major trophies, no fishing gear and aged wood pole) on the 3 star hotspot close to the siren's run TP and on first try got 100% rare: 3 oysters, 3 frogfish, 2 sculpin and 2 chests. Used no bait here.

I did the same thing and got pretty much the same results. I have fished at 7 3star hotspots now and have only pulled the blue rarity fish and treasure chests
You probably already understand this hence why you've much such amazingly detailed fishing guides but There is so much information lacking online about this kind of thing, Majority of links will send you to a click bait casuals article with little to no substance. Basic advices that everyone already knows, Coming from path of exile this is concerning because we spent thousands of hours grinding and I need to know what is efficient not how to do something at it's most basic level.. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for making such detailed content with actual Information and not just the typical information for casuals.
Also the Wiki seems to know even less. Lacking in drop tables, locations of items, weightings etc.. This game sorely needs a dedicated wiki with actual players who can full it with detailed and precise information. Anyways you're as close as we will get. Thanks man.

this breakdown is so good - I'm using it to prove a point to a few people that used to LoL at me - cuz I really enjoy fishing in NW. Not only that - you can make some decent money with forced dice rolls on 4/5/6 side of the dice! the raw numbers are great at making my point! also - the fishing luck song - is the Fisherman's Lament on the flute?
Next rendition, please find the best way to get fish roe. I know sturgeon is great, but what luck if not in a hot spot (if that's even a thing). Fantastic work man, keep it up!

Curious, how are you finding the roll table values for each item? NWDB used to show it on their database but don't anymore. Wondering if there's another way or how you concluded the luck value "window" for Oysters here.

I just ran the math, the ideal and possible setup would be 22500 luck + 3* fishing ground. E.g. by using a T5 pole and 2 major trophies. its an about 11,5% higher chance of rare fish.
Best possible setup would probably be 3 major trophies + a t3 pole without perks. this way you can easily switch to max luck setup for 2* fishing grounds while waiting for respawn of 3*.
With max luck and a 2* ground the odds for rare fish should be 25.47% (-> 8,49% oysters), given that 2* grounds hold more fish this option is decent also.

Anyone who cannot afford 3 major trophies. You can use
3 minor trophies
+ Treated Wood Pole
+ Glowworm
Dont use any luck on clothing and it will get you to a range with Oysters. The math is not quite 22,500 but it is close enough to get you to Oysrter catching range.

Fishing used to be so chill after the bots were gone. Now it’s just real players camping all the hotspots on a timer :( kinda wish all resources were on randomized timers or locations

3 Star Hotspots are awesome to fish at but my server is pretty farmed for them. However the 2 star hotspots are always open, Can you catch things like Oysters in 2 star hotspots and do you know what the targetted luck would be to hit them there?
Side note, I think it feels really bad to have obtained a legendary pole and then you can't even use it for the actual rare things in the game. I think Amazon should re-order some of the fish rarities, like legendary oysters since they are the most needed.

Huh... i've always used the max setup you showed on the video, used to only get legendary fish + crates. But since the new update, i've tried to fish again with the same setup, and i'm randomly fishing up rare fish? I don't remember a fishing luck nerf in the patchnotes, have you guys noticed it too?
I've checked:
- My house rent is OK, 3 Major Fishing Trophies on;
- Using Vengeful Helm/Gloves/Boots and Fierce Smock/Trousers;
- 2 T5 Fishing Poles one with Lucky Day 3 and the other with Lucky Night 3 - Switching accordingly;
- Using Firefly/Glowworm bait accordingly;
- 5% Luck from Music Buff;
- 3 Star Hotspot.
Am I missing something or did they nerf it?
there is a bug, I was going to make a video on it :P seems opening your chat box or inventory bugs bait, and you stop getting the bonus luck from bait, been testing it for 2 days

Awesome video!! One question though where would I farm for the T5 fishing gear?
It is all world drops now, but I have found they drop quite regularly from black alligators in 60 + zones, or the ghosts in ebonscale near ivan
So just a note here about which trophy to hang. Major fishing trophies give 9k fishing luck each. Basic fishing trophies give 5k each. In the video you say to hang 3x Major fishing trophies for 15k total luck, but w/ the current tooltip amounts in game it would be 3x Basic fishing trophies.
They nerfed the trophies, but didn't update the tooltip
correct major fishing trophy's in fact give 5000 not 9000

i love video like this, and its Awesome! but i have question about the last tips, is it any effect on Line Strength between T1-T5 Rods, cos it will be harder to maintain the fish with low Line Strength...thx
Can you please show those numbers for just fresh and salt water so we can see how much luck we need for different type of fishes there?
For example if i want to always fish in salt water and i want to maximize my chance of getting only blue fish how much luck i need?
its the same salt or fresh , the fishing loot tables dont change for each, but if your talking open water there is no way to target blue, only works in hotspots in salt water

Hey Boss! This video has been invaluable to me! I made a spreadsheet and plug in my values of the items to hit the sweetspot for what I am after. One question though! @4:22 you show the loot table on screen for 3 star hotspots. To calculate the table for a 1 or 2 star hotspot, do we subtract the value of the hotspot itself to maintain consistency or leave it the same? I only ask as I often prefer 1 stars at times due to the hotspot providing more fish before it's fished out. Thanks in advance!

Not at all, if you fish with the fishing rewards from the quest chain plus firfly bait, you can easily catch 3 legendary fish from ebonscale reach and reekwater, that's all that's required for these 3 trophies

Yes, it seems only the fishing rods from the event, the trophy's from the event and the food from the event affect event fishing, the regular fishing stuff seems to not
@@5HeadSurvivalGaming I concur with this statement. I have tried every possible combination in normal fishing gear and poles trying to only catch large Medleyfaire fish and its random. I can say for sure that no bait gets way more Medleyfaire crates. I guess I need to go buy an event fishing pole.

Yes, those were fixed in the May update. 3 majors stacks.
this either isn't 100% accurate or one of the lucks is broken. I'm wearing all lucky water 3 armor, have the best luck bait, 2 t5 pools one with lucky day and one with lucky nights and 3 trophies plus the music buff and I still get rare fish in secret.

I don't get this exclusion thing... I get around 15k luck with the calculations you did there and I'm getting green fish and maybe a blue here and there. So just to test I equip every fishing luck gear I got with my legendary pole and I'm still getting a bunch of greens in 3 star spots. Did they change the numbers? Why can't I ever exclude greens from my pool?
If it's just about increasing the luck then okay, but the way you put it in the video saying it excludes the possibility of certain pulls it sounds like you can guarantee the rarity of what you're getting.

@@5HeadSurvivalGaming I think they just fixed it. I got it working before with only blues but then this morning after the patch the same setup got me a legendary on the second pull. I took my gear off until I got blues but then got a green so put the shoes back on and it's working again hehe
Apparently there is a new seprate luck for the summer event fish. When I looked at the data-mined files i saw that only the event shop fishing rods and the event bait gives luck. So i was thinking if i only fish on event hotspots then its worth to change out my fishing luck trophys for xp to maximize your efficiency.

Interesting video, although I got a bit lost. Could you tell me what is roll luck in one and two star hotspots? If I understood well, in 3 stars, if I have 2 major trophies, full luck clothes and the wooden pole of 2500, I would have 22500 and this is better for oyster than just 15000 of 3 major trophies, isn’t it? I get where you got the 0-3200 base roll range, as Max Hotspot loot table value (300k) - Max Luck (296800k). Does that mean that if I have a Luck value of say 20k, that my base roll is 0-280K? I've seen base roll referenced as a static 0-34,700, so I'm a bit confused how base roll is calculated or valued..
your total luck is added to the base as well as the ceiling
How much has this changed since this vid? My gear says it has both lucky waters and fishing colossus and the legendary quested pole so Im not sure how much luck I have
edit: I guess I cant have too much luck though because I just caught a hake which is common. Probably should look into fishing trophies.

I've fished a few 3 star salt waters already but i can't seem to get oysters. But i am getting 100% blues. So my guess is its working but i'm in the wrong locations? Is there certain location restrictions to oysters?

Great video, btw. For us that love exact numbers and chances, this video is amazing. One question: how do treasure chests interact with luck? Since the max luck value (296.8k) makes the minimum roll exceed the window for the chest, how does it still drop 65.4% of the time?
there is a hard cap, you cant out luck chests to only legendries unfortunately

testing your numbers for about 3 hours now, and I have to say you are dead on. While I got a majority of blue, RNG isn't always as nice and I ended up with a lot of star fish lol. I would add, putting on your full gear and best bait while waiting for the T3 to respawn will also yield a few blues, but mostly green.
man ive been doing it for roughly 40 min and hacent gotten a single one idk if im doing something wrong but im in t3 and 3 trophies

the luck variables with harvesting are a bit different, you can't get luck high enough to eliminate or guarantee things
How would I figure out what the loot table looks like if I wanted to target something like catfish or sturgeon
well the loot table is quite simple, all white rarity fish are the same, green again same and blue etc, so basically you target rarity, then head to the zone its offered in
@@5HeadSurvivalGaming so I'd want to get ATLEAST 132841 luck to rules out the Grey fish tiers, boots etc. If my assume my poor understanding of how this works, if you fish in a 2 star spot you'd have too much luck to catch the uncommon green fish? I guess the better question is how to target the lower rarities lol
I don't know where to find the data to figure this out for 2 star spots, which would be way more useful imo. 3 star spots are gone like Instantly

I did my math with these numbers and if im right with max luck in everything minus the song. 60.37% green 25.56% blue 12.78% treasure chest 1.27 legendary
@@Aosk36 sounds about like what I've been getting for 4 hours. "Max luck" is a bit subjective tho.....just wearing purple gear isn't really max luck. The blue quest chest is better than the vengful chest.
@@CantankerousOB I never said to go full vengeful gear. You only need the head and gloves from vengeful. everything else is from the blue set

I did a simillar setup without Major trophies
Ironwood clean rod = 12500
1 minor trophy = 2500
Lucky waters x5 = 10000
3 star = 243300
and snail bait
It seems to be total of 268300, but I was still getting some greens and got 0 oysters from 3 different hotspots in 50-70 casts or so
What am I missing here? I event tried to leave only fishing boots to not increase my chance to get bigger fish but still seems to be I'm doing something wrong
there is a bug atm, me and few others have been testing, whats happening is when you equip bait, and open your inventory or chat box, your bait stops working till you stop fishing and reapply it

I calculated my luck:
Lost Legendary pole: 12500
Bait: 8500
Lucky Night: 7500
Hat II: 1500
Chest III: 2000
Pants III: 2000
Boots III: 2000
3x Major Fishing trophy: 15000
Which amounts to 51000 luck. Add to that the fishing 3 hotspot = 294300.
According to the loot table, because I'm crossing the threshold of 287823 for treasure chests, I should only be getting treasure chests and legendary fish:
0 - treasure chests
4593 - legendary fish
(0 - 5700 roll)
However, I still caught a small swordfish and a starfish (the other 8 were treasure chests). How is that possible?

Are the loot tables different for tier 2 fishing spots? Because if i understood this video correctly, you arent able to catch Aquatic Snails in tier 3 fishing hotspots. (Is that correct?) Also If this is the case how is the loot table different in tier 2 fishing spots? Thanks for any responses. I need roughly 400 Snail Slime and want to farm it on my own and I would like to maximize my odds if possible. Thanks in advance for any comments.

This information would be useful IF we had access to all the breakpoints for different fish. I can't find such a resource, could someone enlighten me?
Edit/Update: As stated by 5 Head Survival gaming in a reply: the breakpoints are for fish rarities, not individual fish
I gave you the information, where I think you are confused is that each fish does not have a break point, its the rarity of the fish that does

For people who struggled to understand like me and want aquatic snails:
Don't fish in 2 star hotposts or 3 star hotspots because you will exceed the minimum rolls.
Wear as high luck fishing gear as possible and go to normal freshwater or 1 star freshwater (although 1 star doesn't give any luck so you're just increasing your number of catches per minute with that).
Is there any website that tells you what the rolls are when fishing, grinding mobs, like Runescape?
Soo, if i have 3 major trophies full set with lucky waters 3 legendary fishing pole and firefly bait. I would get only chests in a 2 star spot?

wow, so my luck was overboard. I still got an oyster, but just one. I ended up with 15 chests, 4 blue blood barbs, and 1 oyster. Plus a handful of normie fish.

How do the % luck perks interact with this. Just multiply the fishing luck number with it and add it to the final number?
