In hs biology we were learning about ethical problems in science and “designer babies” came up (babies where the parents choose specific attributes via dna splicing or something, it was sort of a futuristic idea at the time), but the thought of someone actually saying the words “I’m a designer baby” being real would be 🥶
For anyone wodnering ill be paragraph guy. This movie is called my sisters keeper, the plot revolves around this young girl who was born for the sole purpose of being spare parts for her sister. She actually doesnt mind at all because she loves her sister, however the sister, whos been dying since the moment she was born, wants to die. So she begs her sister to stop donating her dna for the treatments and to get someone to stop it all together. This leads tk the lawsuit and eventually the pushing of a court paper that mandates the sister is in charge of her own body.
did you know that the ending of the movie is different than the book it's based on? in the book Anna actually dies in a car accident, and her organs are donated to kate, and kate lives
@tinytim-sj2fb it is a very real scenario, sure the movie, but it's actually based on the Molly Nash story which was a very real life event. And "designer babies" are a very real world problem.
This video proves how amazing our eyesight is, we saw the video and focused entirely on that and nothing else, thats why the majority of watchers didn't even notice the line until they read a comment or until late into the video. Amazing
The concept of having doner babies should be illegal. To live your life knowing the only reason your parents had you was to save another child and not because they just wanted another child to love is absolutely heartbreaking
Reminds me of a book I read about a kid who grew up under really odd circumstances, he lived on a huge private ranch and people either treated him with utmost respect or like an animal. Every so often an old guy called el patron would show up and give him gifts and punish anyone who had been mean to him. It later turned out that he was el patrons clone who he created to harvest his organs to keep his alive for longer, and he had already done so to several other clones.
The best part about this movie (assuming memory serves me correctly) is that she didn’t mind being spare parts for her sister. Her sister wanted to die and knew her parents wouldn’t let her so she asked the girl in the video to not give her anymore organs so she could die. I do not really remember tho so if I am wrong please correct me.
The real-life scenario was the story of a boy donor. The author of the book changed it to a girl donor. Makes sense, for selling the book, but I wish it had just been a small-time book that challenged modern audiences to empathise with a little boy in a situation where a little girl is also hurting. I know from my childhood that people can't do that.
Parents have to do this when their children get too sick like this, but mostly the siblings just want to help their sick sibling because they’re sick. Sure they’re scared, but there parents don’t force them most the time. It’s siblings love ❤
@Madi-dh7iythe child was giving pieces of her body from when she wasn’t even able to talk, since the first day she was on earth. There was no consent. Not only that but these are surgeries that are invasive and potentially deadly. These doner babies have been doners all there life, and imagine that being you and if you don’t your sister will die, maybe you would, but there are children out there that don’t want to go through that, and it’s valid. The only reason shes alive is to save her sibling. if you say no your beloved sister dies and everyone in your family is disappointed and traumatized. I’m guessing you haven’t watched the movie or read the book, but I’m gonna give you a spoiler, so stop reading if you don’t wanna hear it, but in the end the one who wanted her to sue was the sister with cancer, because she didn’t want to put her sister through that anymore, and didn’t wanna live anymore with all the procedures and seeing her closet friends die. The doner sister did actually want to help her sister, so I’m sure some siblings do want to help, but that’s not the case for everyone. I still think it’s wrong to put a baby through extremely invasive surgery’s. But that’s my opinion. I can’t imagine what the parents are going through and what I’d do that scenario 😢
@Madi-dh7iyNot always. You gotta understand that yes siblings can be close but in that situation issues will arise, imagine the entire point of your existence is to be a bag of organs for your family to draw from, that’s a horrible existence and will cause lots of mental issues because of that fact
I'm pretty sure her sister was the one who told her to sue the parents and to let her die because she didnt want to keep being in pain and dragging her sister down with her just for their parents
@LandanMeyerignorant? How? I’m guessing Landon, that you’re a man and you don’t know the details of anything that’s happening or how many women will die due to the abortion laws. I think you’re the ignorant one.
And that kids is why you generally dont want the spare parts to be grown natuarlly. If you make an organism to replace body parts, you grow it in a lab seperatly. She should have bever existed and the organs should have been grown seperatly.
sometimes it really shows how poor i grew up because all these lines and random dot things people do for reels and shorts- i dont even notice them until a comment points them out lmao

Bad when done to make her a spare part factory.

Fun fact: the guy in the white suit voiced in Thomas and the magic railroad being one of the main characters called Mr conductor
finally someone noticed xD
I freaking love that movie, always will (even though I'm 14)
That's Alec Baldwin. He was a very well known actor in the 2000s he was also in Cat in the Hat, he played Larry.

This is such a disgusting practice, its horrendous and ahould be illegal. Children deserve more autonomy
No. They don't. They are children and they are idiots. And this is a movie you dolt

@tinytim-sj2fbno its happened plenty of times before. A lot of things which seem too evil to be real are absolutely real.
I dont think you realize how little autonomy children have.
Apparently after law school, Alec “Mr.Conductor” Baldwin got to help 2 girls save their lives. One from the evil parents, one from an evil diesel.
You thought this was mr conductor too
@CarsonDiamond-g1o sir, I would like to kindly remind you that they are played by the same actor. Have a good day man
