Different Types of Hibiscus 🌺 Hardy hibiscus, Tropical, Rose of Sharon, Sea hibiscus & more!

Let’s take a tour of all of the different hibiscus varieties that I currently have or have had recently. What is the difference between hardy hibiscus and tropical hibiscus? How do I know if my hibiscus can handle a freeze?

Propagate the variegated hibiscus, then once it is established try putting it in the ground. Or maybe put the established prop , pot and all sunken in the ground. I have plants in pots that I put in the ground and then yank them up, pot and all if I need to.

Mine doesn’t look like any of those. I can tell it’s not hardie because the leaves are shiny. I did get it at Lowe’s & though it was outdoor plant but it is more compact & has 2 different color blooms. Pink & orange/salmon. The leaves are very dark green. I’m bummed because there are no more buds on it & don’t know why? I’m in MA

Sounds like a tropical hibiscus. They go through blooming spurts, fertilize with hibiscus fertilizer following bottle instructions for more blooms!

It would be helpful to know where you garden. I'm in zone 9 but in Northern California. We get occasional snowfall. Where are you?

Houston, TX We very rarely get snow here, zone 9 can vary so much!

Where did you get the Cajun Hibiscus. I am in Houston. I want to replace the 4 hibicus that I lost in the freeze.

I got them from a hibiscus sale in Pasadena that they do every year. Space City Hibiscus I believe.
