I’m just curious, as a candidate attorney/doing articles, do you make a sufficient amount of money to survive every month for groceries, housing, so forth? I’m asking because I am applying for LLB at UNISA for next year and just like to think and plan ahead for future. Will need to save in advance if I’ll be earning very little whilst doing my articles. No one can live off of R5000 a month whilst you have to pay your car, accommodation, medical aid etc

Unfortunately articles are not meant to make you live a luxurious life, but to basically to get the necessary basic things. The best way to look at it is actually as a stipend. I always say that, if you gonna go for articles or pupilage you need to have a back up or at least a reasonable background. Otherwise, it’s fair if you live within your means.
