The real Agfa can still be had as rollei rebrands it. Not as cheap as the APX but it’s tonal characteristics are a bit better. Rollei Retro 80s/Superpan 200 and retro 400s are all Agfa emulsions from the old style.
I remember back in the day when I shot nothing but Kodachrome 64 professional, I would buy it the brick . So yeah, photography is a pricey endeavor, but it's worth it.
I shot a lot of APX100 back in the day as a budget alternative to Kodak, it was a great film. Really enjoy your passion, keep it up! (PS love the sound of the film advance level)
I just shot a roll of APX 100 in my Nikon F4S! I also developed it in Ilford DD-X, Ilfostop, & Rapid iteration and it turned out gra=eat! I have the APX 400 still in the fridge and look forward to shooting it, CHEERS!
Just found your channel this morning and enjoying it. I have to add a few more film photography episodes on my channel. Have some fp4 videos on there. Subscribed and looking forward to more. Where are you based as the nature photos on the rollei 80s video was lovely.
Since making this video I’ve seen others pose this question too. There’s some suggestion is may also be identical or at least very similar to Kentmere 100. I’m going to be doing some investigating. The results might end up in a video.
I just started shooting film and my first roll was Fomapan 400. That I loved! It has so much character and contrast, even if losing some detail. This film on the other hand, not for me… it looks boring, blaah, just lame.. gray it is. Maybe it is the light in the photos. I might watch some other videos about this film, but not convinced yet. Your video was nicely done, good music choice and I like your way of presenting the content.
Thank you for the compliment. This film isn’t for everybody, that’s for sure. I’m glad you found a Film you like, Fomapan 100 & 400 are fantastic characterful Film stocks.
@@noahvonhatten I'm from Belgium and to compare: Foma400 is about 55 euro vs. Agfa 400 is 90 euro. Both are easy to get to here. Also, the Agfa is "true" iso400 while the Foma400 seems to be about 250 (according to tests from TheNakedPhotographer). Both indeed, can't go wrong with the cheao Fomapan :)
Back in the 90's they made the GREATEST film ever !!!.... Agfa 25 .. slow but long tonal scale and normal contrast ... which then and even now is a bit unusual ... Agfa film has always had incredible tonal range !!!!
I don’t begrudge manufacturers for increase prices on todays climate. They could just say, it’s not worth producing film any more. I am grateful manufacturers are keeping film alive. Don’t like the price, shoot digital and stop whinging about it.
Exactly. For example Kodak‘s recent price hike coincides with an expansion of their manufacturing facilities and staff. Nothing to complain about on my opinion.
Yes and no. I would be more apt to shoot digital if I could afford a newer camera. My Canon XTi is now 15 years old. It still takes a nice pic, but the 10 Mpxl sensor is a bit antiquated. I actually get 30-40 Mpxl out of a film scan. Price wise, my Elan 7e with an L lens, good film scanned on my Epson 750 Pro is in my budget. Most of us expected film prices to increase once digital became affordable. Today's economy doesn't help with the price of anything. For those who wish to continue with film and are concerned about film prices. I suggest buying a bulk loader and a film bag. There is no need for a dark room if you develop your own negatives and use a film scanner.
@@noahvonhatten in the Kodak financial report they state that they've managed to streamline production, to make it cheaper to produce. Add price increases to this and I'm not touching Kodak even with a 100ft long stick. Kodak raises their prices by XXX amount, while others are adjusting for inflation and even managing to introduce new emulsions in the market (Adox). What gives? : D
Another Ilford film rebrand? Does box now state "Made in the UK" ? Interesting. Would love to see a direct comparison with FP4+ both in Rodinal 1+25 identical print parameters.
Thank you so much for that bit about film prices! It's not said enough, but you truly brought it into perspective

I love and have shot a lot of Rollei 80S, in fact it’s one of my favourites.
more videos like that please!
I have the APX400 in my fridge to test. I still have to buy the APX100, the Fomapan, and the Kentmere. So exciting.

I quite like it. You can even buy it in drugstores in Germany, that make things relatively simple...
Another excellent video. Thanks so much for these videos. They’re stellar. Peace
Good video, but what is the deal with the lines through your images? Dirty Scanner sensor?
There is a slight scratch on the film, it shows on some of the images.

I do like the picture quality of the actual film :) I've processed my Fuji Xpro2 files on Silver Efex Pro for Agfa APX 100 most of the time :)
I love AGFA APX 100/400. One of my main bw stocks!
Curious if it’s the same as Rollei RPX 100

I have Agfa APX 100 in 120 in my fridge!
Loved the old Agfa APX100 120 rolls. Sadly no longer made. New one is not the same emulsion TMK. One day I hope the old APX100 will be revived....
I like this film, I've been using it for over two years... I love the results I get pushing the 400 speed version to 800...
I never saw it at that price....and I have not seen it for sale anywhere for the last three years.....February 2024.
I guess you just need to move to Europe 🤣
Nice video! What would you do, APX or FOMA (ISO400) for bulk roll?
They‘re both really good options. I would lean a little more towards Fomapan personally, since it’s a bit easier to get a hold of in my experience.

Rollei RPX 25 is pretty good, too!
Kodak prices has ALWAYS been too high, at least in Europe. So if I wanted Kodak film, I had to buy many to get discount.
In Europe there is also the rollei rpx 100
That’s true, almost forgot about the one.
It's a wonderful film..fantastic tonal responsiveness...very likely made by Ilford..judging from the fact it's made in the UK.
Test Agfa 400 next, it is my friends favourite film.
Great video as always! I was wondering whether Agfa photo films were a good option, and they sure seem like a good choice on a budget.
Great video. Thank you

FOMAPAN AND ADOX.
I love FOMAPAN.
It's not $6 a roll anymore. Try double that.
Really? Where do you live? I just found some on fotoimpex.com for 5,03 €, which is just under $6 USD.
@@noahvonhatten In the USA. 5 Euros doesn't do me much good considering shipping cost to the USA.
Agfa film was the easiest film to scratch! Even with careful use and expensive file sheets! No good!
