I love how unapologetically bizarre this show was. You could never be sure if it was symbolic or just weird. I own the complete series on UMD. I felt a show this strange disserved an equally strange format. So I can only watch it on my PSP.
I was absolutely obsessed with every single aspect of this show. In the early 90's MTV really took some creative risks that were awesome. Like this and especially THE MAXX.
Hey Brad! I was nine when liquid tv aired and was eleven when beavis and butthead debuted, 12 when Maxx and Head debuted on mtv and was 13 when Aeon had her own show and 15 when daria debuted
Same…I remember sneaking downstairs at like 1130pm to quietly watch aeon and the Maxx…i loved Julie and her leopard queen counterpart, I loved the banter between Trevor and Aeon and how just so many episodes made you question aspects of humanity and motivation. It was so random but still relatable… :) The 90s were pretty dang awesome for a kid and teen :)

A wonderful and unusual thing about Aeon Flux is that it's an epic style story, but where many epics try to frame things as a battle between good and evil, AF did not. Both Trevor and Aeon were sort of in the middle on the good/evil spectrum. Their conflict was about structure vs. fluidity or order vs. chaos.
That what Peter Chung wanted for moral ambuiguity for his characters, no hero, no villain, no saving the day bullshit, no poop jokes every seconds, no overdrama crap, no crappy romance tales where every chracters with a confused personality, all Aeon Flux characters are all "Just" characters and all Aeon dark humor are very or too dead pan. Peter Chung even said his hatred towards Lord of the ring and star wars because they stuck too far in the good vs evil instead of show audience the truth. I like how Peter Chung show that Trevor Goodchild maybe a dictator but his policy may have some benefits for Bregna citizens like a police men protected Aeon friend from a group of troubled teenagers or his surveilance state eradicated criminal enterprises and corrupted politicians but his actions also led to many harm to his citizens as well in order to fuel his sexual fantasy of human evolution, Aeon Flux mission is admirable but her action also questionable like she committed terrorism bombing and killing soldiers with human lives sometime involving harming innocent in a cold hearted way that we don't even know who is good and evil. Aeon Flux is a Gnostic tales where Trevor is a Demigod and Aeon is the Sofia. Trevor a demigod believe he can rule both the spirit and materials world but Aeon the Sofia ruined his life just to remind him he is not a God but a charlatan and should accept the truth. Aeon Flux is like a satire tales of action hollywood movies and 1984 at the same time.

Aoi Nope! It was just one of those gimmicks that was part of the cartoon logic. In fact, this was the inspiration for how Kenny kept coming back on South Park whenever he died in a previous episode.
The soundtrack is out on CD btw - It's called "Eye Spy Ears Only Confidential" by Drew Neumann and doesn't mention Aeon anywhere on it. In fact in the liner notes it goes out of the way to avoid saying the name. Must have been a contractual thing.
I discovered Aeon Flux when I was in my late teens during the late 2000's. The series just blew me away. I was shocked an animated series like it existed in the 1990's. It truly was way ahead of its time.
The animated series was a work of surreal expressionist art with great voice acting. The live action movie was an embarrassing piece of shit that even the creator detested.
I remember watching this late at night on teletoon. I'd stay up late on the weekends in the basement eating take out and watching teletoon and the space channel aeon flux, the oddities, nighthood, a bunch of other shows I remember they would show anime movies as well.. Macross, Evangelion, . So nostalgic I miss the 90s.

My house had to downgrade our package and lost VH1. Weeks later I find out about the channel's switch over and what would air on MTV Classic. Needless to say I was extremely bummed out. "I want MY MTV".
The series was bizarre but fascinating at the same time. When I had to stay wake up till night still doing homework, I watched Aeon Flux. Also, I didn't connect the dots until one year ago, but the animation is similar to the cartoon Phantom 2040.
Phantom 2040 was so hard to watch. It had an uncanny vibe, it made you depressed. That's when you know it's good art. When it raises emotional reactions on the one watching.
murrfeeling Aeon Flux predict the far futute better than most of those Ikea knock off shitty so called sci fi shows. Also Aeon Flux is set in 7698 AD not 2700s. Aeon Flux far future is horrifying with Bregna and Monica set in what used to be Eastern Europe and considered to be the last civilization on Earth, the Aeon world is an industrial nightmare, barren wasteland with crash landed alien spaceship, bizarre humongous jungle and underground fortresses, it's kinda funny when the two last nations in the world fought in a very meaningless war but that war also gave them a meaning in ideology and the diffrences like Bregna wanted order, peace and control while Monica wanted freedom, chaos and independence.
I love the dystopian futuristic atmosphere of the show. It would have been great if the animated backgrounds were more detailed but you totally see what they were going for. I have go rewatch these at some point as i own them all on dvd. Such an amazing concept that could only have been conceived in the 90s.

I still remember seeing this trailer on one of my VHS tapes as a kiddo back in the late 90s (can't remember anymore which movie) where it was part of the promos before the movie started. And i was like "What the heck did i just watch?" because it didn't really tell you anything what it wanted to be. Shows like this are also why i always think of "freaking awesome cartoons" when ever i think of MTV in the 90s. THIS is what they were for me. The best source for groundbreaking and different animated shows that really tried something different.

The same art studio did a show called Reign The Conqueror. It had the same art style as aeon Flux, and some of the weirdness too. But the plot actually followed the life history of Alexander the Great.... Just really REALLY stylized...

The lesson is: never let yourself be limited to any particular niche because there are job opportunities everywhere when you are openly creative.
I found this show on Paramount, but it doesn't have the opening or the mid episode sequence where she catches the fly. So strange! Why not incoude them?
This series was good, but I always liked the original "silent-esque" episodes that were on Liquid Television the best. The live-action movie was trash.

Anyone remember that episode where that soldier dies and it appears as some weird thing on a boat kicking its feet and fishing then the dude blinks and his eyes glaze over and the image surpasses him and its just another dead soldiers goggles and a gun in a pool of blood.. Never seen a death hallucination so vivid and profound ever in a cartoon
@@philiphunn194 Actually the director of 5th element movie were inspired by graphic novel called "The Incal" by Alejandro Jodorowsky and legendary comic artist Moebius, and Peter Chung was inspired by Moebius art style as well but Chung art is much closer to Herge (TinTin creator) style called "Ligne Claire" or known as Clear Line and many other European comic art style.
@@zidane4028 The Rugrats theme song was done by Mark Mothersbaugh, former lead singer for the post-punk 80's band Devo, he would later go on to do music on Regular Show and a bunch of movies. Aeon Flux's music was made by Drew Neumann who didn't wok on Rugrats, BUT who did do the themesong for Klasky Csupo's Wild Thornberrys.

30th Anniversary of Aeon Flux (1991-2021)
MTV took over VH1 classic and they are showing Aeon again! However they snipped out this intro, sadly.

Anyone remember that episode where that soldier dies and it appears as some weird thing on a boat kicking its feet and fishing then the dude blinks and his eyes glaze over and the image surpasses him and its just another dead soldiers goggles and a gun in a pool of blood..

This predates that film by six years. I doubt Luc Besson ever watched this show, though.
@@philiphunn194 Actually the director of 5th element movie were inspired by graphic novel called "The Incal" by Alejandro Jodorowsky and legendary comic artist Moebius, and Peter Chung was inspired by Moebius art style as well but Chung art is much closer to Herge (TinTin creator) style called "Ligne Claire" or known as Clear Line and many other European comic art style.
I kept getting the same feeling from watching both.

@@zidane4028 The Rugrats theme song was done by Mark Mothersbaugh, former lead singer for the post-punk 80's band Devo, he would later go on to do music on Regular Show and a bunch of movies.
Aeon Flux's music was made by Drew Neumann who didn't wok on Rugrats, BUT who did do the themesong for Klasky Csupo's Wild Thornberrys.
Back when shows were just bizarre. Kids were getting good stuff to wqtch back then.
