Makes no sense when you have Siri linked to your voice. It just sounds stupid when you cut it out. Learn to link your voice so you can improve your experience with Siri. Don’t ask me how. Use AI to help you.

My guess is minimum a 13 pro to use 50% of the features. A 16 will get you 80% and a 16 pro is needed for 100% of features. On board ai takes a lot of cpu and ram
I think Apple may do BOTH the server and on device approach, if the device can’t do itself, it will push it to the server. If you have newer devices, you can get more features on device or get features that Apple deemed not worth it to push to the server. AI Siri likely come to all devices but things like instant photo editing may not available, people with older devices may have to do it via a request button

@@azexy21 12 and up got all the iOS 17 updates. The way apple operates is they make features that are the standout for new pro model phones. The standout iOS features are given to iPhones that are powerful enough to support them.

AI is why Im not upgrading anything for a few years. The gap in transition from smartphone/laptop/tablet to whatever is coming next is here. Gen 1 AI stuff is going to get old fast. Might as well wait for it to mature at least 2 generations beyond this year and those devices will be worth owning.

It is nice to hear that the Neural Engine is possibly getting doubled to 32 cores; HOWEVER, Apple needs to increase the RAM (Unified Memory) if their AI crusade is going to be a hit later in the year. Yes, for the iPhone, but I'm mainly referring to the M4 lineup.
Will an older but powerful Intel Mac such as the Mac Pro 2019 keep up to do those video renders or will AI features limited to Apple Silicone Macs with Neural Engine Chips?
Apple have been pushing hard in the ML space on ways to get things to run within low mem footprint.
I do expect M4 to move to 12GB base model (due to the min size that the next generation of memory dies are shipping in). But this will not be needed of the ML stuff as that will target the phone and thus will fit well within 6gB.
@Guanaalex Well the M1 alone already blows Intel laptops out of the water on video renders so I don't think that's a good comparison especially with the current M3 products that are 3 generations after a 2019 Intel model.

What’s this for? Clip art for iWork? Which is what your images imply? Doubt it.
The key is running Gen AI on existing hardware. New chipsets may add additional AI cores, but getting Gen AI to run on device will change things for Apple.
And I think this will be the announcement this year, integrating AI into the chip and the OS.

I have Apple music and want to create a few ringtones. Seems there’s a complicated way to do this using Garage band. Is there a simpler way to do this on your iPhone?
Making adjustment on the fly. The Gen AIs on the market now are so random and hard to modify on specific areas and details. Besides this AI update, hopefully they will have big improvement update for AVP.

3:46 Actually, the iPhone 16s are rumoured to get more NPU units (32 vs 16), so maybe these are required for some of the features.

I would love to see apple in this market. Apples polish and privacy will bring a whole new level to AI. I currently use Microsoft Co-Pilot a lot. As a developer it does not write code for me, but it does research for me far faster than I could do it myself. I have tried using the code it (and many other) AI systems generate, and it is usually buggy, and sometimes a crazy way to get something done. But as a research tool, it is very helpful and saves me a lot of time.
Apple are already in the market, they are shipping 2 generative ML models today within your iPhone. New dictation and new text auto correct are both LLM models.
I expect the ML models apple ship in Xcode will be equally hidden, such as improving auto complete (not writing entier functions).

I think LLM plus LAM is far more important than making images. Siri able to do stuff like book flights or hotel rooms from voice commands is where Apple can really get ahead.
The really striking AI feature will certainly only be available to the iPhone 16 much like it was with Siri on iPhone 4
Generally the AI features will be available on all iPhone with Neural Engine.

I honestly don’t care about generative images or video…I’m excited for how this will elevate Siri as a home automation assistant. Put this stuff in a HomePod and that will be a compelling product
The difficulty with Siri is the tendency for these ML models (that are just text production models) to holsinate and go off the rails. When ChatGPT goes off the rails its ok you just close the tab and walk away, when Siri goes of the rails and then calls Swat on you or shares all your nods with your boss its a little more scary. This is why non of the vendors out there are shipping raw chat bot powered assistants yet and the legal libaiblty of them doing this one every 100 mill requests would destroy these companies.
Meh to AI-generated images. Even photo touch-ups to be fair. I do all my photo editing on my desktop. A decent IoT Home assistant is the thing I'm most looking forward to with AI.

IF your leak information on AI generate activities are done in local device is true, it would probably change the whole industry where most (including Adobe) are generating on the Cloud. This would be the most striking feature. In particular, privacy is so important today.
Apple can make that work because they own the hardware and the software. Others might still need to compute in the cloud to run their models.
Finally, something to get excited about. Maybe this year I'll upgrade from Iphone 7.

No it won't if they were to trickle it down they would atleast make the iPhone 13 series or even 14 series the minimum. There are slight chances the iPhone 11 series might not even be supported if ios 18 is this big of an update

so far in my tests, Mac Studio M2 Max with 64GB memory and 4TB ssd is around 14% slower than old i7-5820K, 32GB ram and GTX 1080 Ti (11GB vram) in various local/offline AI tools for image, audio, text...

I just traded my iPhone 14 Pro Max for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, its a nice phone, I was thinking of waiting for the iPhone 16 but tbh the iPhone has felt kinda boring for a while and been waiting for a fresh redesign

Probably yes. On device models can be very small. Large ones wouldn’t be able to run on most laptops other than 64gb to 196gb maxed out Mac for some models anyways. Largest models will be cloud based.
The SI unit pertaining to gigabytes is GB, not Gb (which is gigabit) or gb which is lazy.
I don’t understand the whole hype around generative ai images and videos. If anything that ai images and videos only destroys entire industries and replaces it with something…lifeless. Not to mention all the ethical issues and violations it already poses.
AI is good only for using as an assistive tool like for productivity. But not as an entire workflow that dispels the need for human input and understanding.
I feel the same way. I'm trying to stay optimistic but humans are involved.

I'd have much more hope for Apple AI if the NLM in Siri was better. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" had an "Eat Up Martha" moment that skewered Siri in its final season opener.

Imagine Apple’s generative AI paired with the Vision headset. Once they’ve perfected it you’ll be able to tell it to create any kind of world or environment and instantly experience it in full VR. The possibilities are mind blowing
The more technology I can have while off grid/off network the better. I like not being tethered to the city so I can enjoy my tech while out in nature.
This would explain why iPads have powerful M chips. Also, the additional hardware improvements including the upcoming improved microphones, could that be because you may not have to type your AI request, but simply dictate it to Siri ?? 2024 may turn out to be much more exciting than we think.
In other words my brand new iPhone 15 will be archaic after this… nice, Apple.

Siri definitely needs an ai upgrade. And when i say "siri" it shouldn't say "hmm?" It interrupts my question
If you just say "siri" followed by a pause, it says "um hmm?" to let you know it is listening to you.
If you just say "siri - what is the weather" etc, without a pause, it does not do the hmm, just gives you the answer.
I just want to Si to be smarter! Looks like that will finally be the case!

There is space for them to create an optimised Small Language Model that’d run brilliantly on their phones. The key is to use optimised (LLM generated) training sets…
I guess it all depends on how good the AI experts they’re employing are, in comparison to DeepMind and OpenAI’s.
Apple have always had some of the best ML researches out there but the key differnce is hey do no ship tec demos they use the ML to improve the OS, be that handwriting recondition or better auto correct etc apples ML work is not branded as a feature "powered by AI" but rather used all over the place (see the image pipelines from modern iPhones) without needing to label AI AI AI.

I ll keep my hopes low, if AI integration level will be similar to voice-assistant one as Apple did with Siri... Furthermore the example you use with take 5 photos -> GIF, this is easily done now with Shortcuts....

I hope to see S--i gets so much better, with the ability to actually pull web results and speak/summarize them. But also I want to see S--i be able to solve problems on her own like ChatGPT can. And of course, the new photo and video editing features, maybe something like the circle-to-search, etc.
But most of all I hope whatever it is does come to the 15 Pro. The hugely powerful 2x faster neural engine is real; I ran Geekbench ML and the score was 6057, which is exactly 98% higher than my 14 Pro. And this 16-core neural engine is actually more powerful than the 32-core one in the M2 Ultra. It would be a waste if it isn’t put to use in this AI!

Why would machines that become self-aware start competing with their creators for resources they do not care about? Their desires are programmed by humans. The only reason for their survival is to serve humans longer. If humans are unhappy, then the machines do not have any purpose to live. So the logic of Skynet is flawed. There's massive scope to use private desktop AI to find and analyse data on macs, and to help users achieve more. GIFs sound like a gimmick. Apple is a long way behind the curve and needs to do something amazing.
