Hey Bobby congrats on passing FM! It took me basically a little over a year to pass my first actuarial exam (FM). Now I'm two months from getting my ASA. FM was actually the exam that required the most attempts for me. It can definitely take time to getting used to studying for actuarial exams. Good luck on the job search and your next exam! Once I passed two actuarial exams I started receiving interviews for entry-level positions.
Congratulations my man. I’ve been going through the 200 SOA questions, but there are a few questions that have unclear solutions because the SOA loves to skip steps. I can’t find the answers anywhere. What did you use to be able to get clear explanations for some of those questions?
The ASM manual helps a lot for those kinds of questions. Also, as I mentioned, I used ADAPT for the last 15 days and some of those questions appear on quizzes/tests. Lastly, there's a valuable Q and A forum on etchedactuarial.com if you want to purchase a membership.
Can you share a little bit your background and your job hunting update please/? I am hesitated to know whether I should spend my time to study for the exams..
I have applied to over 100 positions and have gotten 1 pre-interview for an internship but no job offer as of yet. After much effort, I was able to speak with a recruiting firm but was told they cannot place entry-level actuaries unless they have prior actuarial experience. I still apply almost every day. I regularly attend networking sessions and send messages to actuaries on LinkedIn to request informational interviews (which costs $50 per month for LinkedIn Premium). I am also studying for Exam IFM and learning R to further boost my resume. In the process I also got my license to become a Mortgage Loan Originator to familiarize myself with loan concepts and to stand out more.
@@BobbyMack Thank you for your videos and information, the quality and the content are great. Yuo honestly dicourage me a little bit, in my filed of competence (civil engineering) having an interview is much easier for an entry level, I am wondeing if prpearing these tests are worthy for me to give it a try. Is you academic background the potential issue?, in some places in Europe for instance to be an actuary you need a related Actuarial Science college degree and not the SOA exams.
Congrats!!

🥺It seem like it’s pretty hard to get a EL position in this field 🥺But I would still take the exam to challenge myself
@@katrinawongusa It is hard, but I absolutely refuse to give up!
