KRLA was my go-to in my early teens. Used to have (friendly) arguments in junior high with friends who liked KHJ more. Great to hear airchecks from that time.

It wasn't only the DJs and the playlists. I discovered The Credibility Gap on KRLA too. Shearer, McKean, Beebe, Lander (and Lew Irwin of course). In my late teens, KDAY became my car radio go-to (Lew Irwin had moved over there coincidentally).

I used to visit the station in Pasadena. A lot of history there. Excellent news dept too. And the Beatles! KRLA was the best!

Miss this station and all the fun I had with my transistor radio at the beach, at school and in my room listening to The Hullabalooer, Emperor Bob, Hudson & Landry and Biondi "The Wild Itralian" before he went "R".

Made Los Angeles radio-greater than it already was.

Yup! In fact, KRLA was so hot at the time ('65-'66), they were the model for what KHJ played music-wise when they first rolled out Boss Radio in late April '65. By '68, Westinghouse would throw in the towel and convert KFWB to news.

Dave Hull certainly had a Face for Radio and a Voice for Print.

@@ApartmentKing66 I was more of a Don Imus fan myself. Was listening to him on WNBC back in the 70's ... the Reverend Billy Sol Hargis was the first to tell you to Put your hands on the Radio ... 'Cuz Billy Sol, Gonna Heeeeeeal Y'all.

I always preffered KRLA to KHJ. When KFWB flipped to a all news format they never could "catch up" to KNX 1070. Now they are just another damn spanish language station.
