  • This video was taken at Manchester Airport way back in 1992,it features quite a few aircraft that are not in service anymore such as the Bac 1-11 and Boeing 727,along with airlines such as Air 2000 and Dan Air etc. it is filmed using a Sony video 8 camcorder as you will notice it is not in Hi Definition as we have today.

    1-11 bad boys stole the show here ! Flying in these, especially at the rear, felt like being fired from a cannon !

    Fantastic video. Some great memories here. Wonderful to see and hear the One Elevens, Dan Air and that rather nice Aeroflot Tu-154B!

    Wonderful memories! I've got some photos of a visit in 99' and there was 1-11's, a 154, DC10, MD88, A300 etc.
    I visited last week and it was literally 737-800's and A320's. The most interesting type to see is the A380 but that's about it.

      you are welcome,aircraft spotting is not the same anymore i find id very boring now.Those days have gone when we saw all aircraft types and airlines in and out of manchester

    great video. probably the best time to be plane spotting. Bac 1-11's, 727's. The Bac 1-11 was the best sounding and coolest commercial aircraft other than the Vickers VC-10 Love the smoke and the sounds. Brings back great memories. 737's with the loud engines, DC-9's, L 1011's. Beautiful. The live plane spotters of today should check this out. This is the sh**!!!

      Thanks for the comment,yes you are right this is when plane spotting was fun loads of different type of aircraft,not like today all there seem to be is Boeing 737s and a mixed selection of Airbus

      I wished it was like this these days, I now find aeroplane spotting is rather boring these days there was so much variation of aircraft not like today most of the aircraft today comprises mainly Airbus and 737,not forgetting the fabulous Boeing 757 which has to be my favourite aircraft of all time

    BAC 1-11s are the loudest aircraft I've ever seen taking off. They're probably no larger than the DC-9s or the MD-80s, but they take off like rockets. Extremely deafening.
    I miss them though.

      @@anels9they got off the mark pretty quick but the climb was quite shallow, a feature of a lot of T tail designs to alleviate stall. Ive flown on plenty and they were a fantastic comfy and quiet plane to fly in

    I'm a spotter from Munich, Germany and was in Manchester, too.
    It's a great airport, I was there, too.
    A lot of memories, with the 1-11 or DC 9.
    Wish these times back!

    I like the uniqueness of the BAC 1-11. Philippine Airlines used to have such from the 60s until the late 80s for it's domestic flights, most especially to the cities of Cebu and Davao.

    Hi John. Amazing. I remember the old hangers on the south side before the second runway but the hangers (where I assume T3 is now) are a revelation. Don't remember but I would seen them at the time. Great to see old airlines and aircraft types including my favourite Lockheed Tri-Star's. Amazing how less build up it was around the airport then. Had forgotten that also.

    Very fond childhood memories with my father that used to drive me over from West Yorkshire for a days outing during the school hols, it was my favourite place. Whilst my friends would get dragged off to the coast or an amusement park somewhere I much preferred this outing. The types of aircraft and liveries were also a good mix with the array of charter and scheduled airlines. I think the 727 was loudest out of the western built planes followed by 1.11. You could always feel the vibrations from the engines going through you as they thrusted up. And with that lovely smell of kerosine in the air.

    • @Michalis2m
      @Michalis2m ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny how people like yourself and myself (i grew up with family Sunday trips to the local airport in the 70s) find the smell of kerosine so soothing and pleasant 😊. Most people may think we’re crazy 😂

      There is quite a distance from the fence, you can tell better from inside the aircraft i have seen 747's turn around there and it seems as if the wing tips are coming over the fence it is quite safe i can tell you, cheers

      I grew up on the west side of Coventry and we could hear the 1-11s taking off from Birmingham in our back garden and then they would come over the house a few minutes later!

    • @hellfire8883
      @hellfire8883 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will Brown bac 1-11 with its speys I believe were louder than the jt8d's in the dc-9 727 737-200. Though they were all very loud the bac-1-11 here was loud even with its hush kits. Though not shown here the hawker tridents with 3 spey engines were the loudest jet in my opinion. Only rivaled by the Concorde and other afterburning fighter jets.
