I really like what the boys did to their property. It was very light and bright. I think it was clever keeping the walls white throughout. I've noticed on all these shows, from this period THE HEAVY DARK FURNITURE. Thankfully, we've moved PAST that. It just weighs down the rooms. I notice this in every episode. It's so interesting to look back on trends... to see what you would keep and what you would discard design-wise.
The deck on the houseboat has no railing - is this allowed? Some may wonder if all the stress, money worries of a whole year, lack of family time, stress on marriage is worth it.
@nova00boss I know a LOT of people who love it, it just wouldn't be MY choice! And I have never seen it done well in interior design situations. Now... THERE's a challenge for SOMEONE!! (right?) I think that GOOD interior design can take a colour you do NOT like and make it palatable, and even attractive.
That spider was a priceless shot!! [Edit] Aaaaaaand, when I saw the side of the boat raised and showing its green side of rot, I thought that he could cut it into sections and sell them as art. At upwards of 60,000£ each, he could have made more than enough to buy two more wrecks to play with. There is fantastic beauty in decay, and when it’s stable metal, that right there is a goldmine.
I loved this episode... although I felt terrible for the boys' misfortune ... and the finishings on the boat were not up to par. Had they spent that much more (begged, borrowed or stolen the extra it would have cost them), and done a quality job on the kitchen at least, I think they could have asked for quite a bit more. Hopefully, on their next project, they'll be able to. But I could see that they were stretched to the max already. Really nice family! I wish them the best.
There is one major similarity with all these episodes ................. (i) they under budget and (ii) have no idea of the enormity of the project they are taking on!
Without Sarah to advise Sue and Vernon on the best mooring location for the cost, they would have been "sunk." That combined with the untenable hours Vernon worked make it seem ill-advised for them to make this their daily bread.
I'm confused. I have watched a lot of episodes and Sarah sometimes says to put the kitchen in the darkest area of the house. Now she says use the brightest area.
People always hang the Artwork too high, leaving great big gaps between the furniture and the painting. Or... they'll put a tiny picture in the middle of a huge wall.
And they always act so pleased with themselves when they tell her that they're not taking her (expert) advice and they're forging ahead with their own dumb ideas.
No matter what property I see on this program, I get the feel of cheap fittings, cut corners, poor workmanship and general low quality blitz designed to sell a turkey dressed by amateurs. Wouldn’t dare buy any of them
