That idea of using the string was a brilliant idea. Ingenious thinking.

Thanks so much for this! I'm about to put a screen back in my Capri and this looks like the way to do it!

toughened windscreen in my 41 year old chevanne exploded recently when driving down the road, made me jump somewhat ! , it has been there for 41 years i think though!
Going to try and fit a replacement with the string, i am hoping the rubber is ok, if not i will see if i have a spare one that is.
    Great video :)

@thomas prior yep. you hear a loud bang and realise eventually you cannot see thew road in front of you. I changed thew window but it was a real ballache to do. mainly as it was very cold and i had put some bitumen sealant around the seal to the frame so needed a hot air gun to soften it.

Nice job!.......ive heard, covering edges of glass and rubber seal in lots of soapy water or wd40 helps a lot!....👍

Why didnt you make life a lot easier and use washing up liquid to lubricate the rubber? Soak the rubber overnight in water with plenty of washing up liquid. Just before you start, replace the cold soapy water with hot soapy water and put some washing up liquid into a container with a small paint brush. cover the metal edge, window and rubber with the concentrated washing up liquid and start. The washing up liquid acts as a lubricant and doesn't attack the rubber and the window practically falls into place. Warming the rubber also helps as warm rubber is more flexible.

Dead right with little circles.. especially on old rubber.. smear a very light wipe of Vaseline over the rubber & window frame "outside" edge & wipe off with a clean damp rag to help the rubber slip over the lip of the window frame.. without being greasy.. slap the glass quite heavily in the direction you want to push the glass into the frame away from your pull cord as you go.. for minis the headlining glued inside the frame, trim it at the edge of the window opening.. it can be easier to fit starting at the top & work around to the bottom to finish in the middle.. never finish on a corner.. if you're by yourself go bottom to top & slap the screen every 6-12" or so to seat the glass into the rubber & the rubber will form into the window frame opening as you go.. they can be a dog to get to pop at the corners & you can shatter the screen.. a lot of bend can occured.. have seen it happen.

Better to use a bit thicker and softer cord !

What you can't see in the video is that this cord is very has a very smooth finish as it's for use in marine applications and I find it slips through the rubber very well without threatening to tear the rubber.

I'm not actually even though it's practically passing my door, I'm involved in something else this weekend.
