You are a great teacher! I have studied the how-to books, watched videos, & helped build stairs. Your presentation has such clarity! Thanks!!!

This is an excellent video. You took the time to show the possible mistakes can be made. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain thoroughly the entire process.

Great video on building stair stringers! Very comprehensive, yet easy to follow and understand.
I must have watched 3 other videos before this one on building stairs and was still a little nervous about my measurements, now I'm ready to cut!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, you are appreciated!

Nice presentation and thanks for sharing with us. One trivial thing on the math side, we may extend the vertical line at the "1" end to determine the position of that end to see if that will make the whole piece may be even shorter:-)

Once you know the unit bridge, calculate each scribing position measured from the nail (multiples of the unit bridge). This way you won't get a compound error as you move along.

    Use a 2x12 a more sturdy stair stringer, which is actually 1 1/2" x 11 1/4"

First Watch his “Stair Calculations” video. Then watch “Layout” video. Excellent pair of videos explaining how to properly figure Stringer Cuts.

Awesome! I have been looking at a lot of video and yours is simply the best!
I have one question that I can't find a decent answer on, how can I calculate the risers on cascading stairs?

Ben Dagenais This is how: th-cam.com/video/n8pczZ9C37E/w-d-xo.html
There is building code issues: th-cam.com/video/WTlTLfxrUSY/w-d-xo.html

Would like to know have you completed the video on the actual use of the framing square or can you also do an in depth one on both the framing square and the speed square

If your stringer material ( the 2x10s ) are questionable it seems to me your should make a plywood template and slide it along each 2x10 as an easy way to avoid knots etc.

Not sure that one should, but certainly could. I sometimes make one out of paper, occasionally with different rise-run combinations to see which pattern works out best. Super fast & cheap to make them.
And then there is computer graphic layout ...
      Thanks for watching.

Do you have any videos on how to use a framing square?

    • @apprenticemath

Awesome! I've been reading a book on it. I never knew what all the scales were for. I think it's a very great skill to be able to make common, hip, and valley rafters.

    • @apprenticemath
      @apprenticemath  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Needs a metric framing square, same process, different numbers.
