  • On tour in Holland with his band Lowriders, in June 2022, Andy Fairweather Low is put on the spot to produce a top 10 of his favourite guitarists/musicians. Mr. Fairweather delivers, and mentions Ry Cooder, Hank B Marvin, Blind Blake, Albert King, Keith Richards and six other guitar gods that are in Mr. Fairweather's words 'off the scale'.
In this 25 minute show you'll see exciting footage of most of them , plus a couple of songs from the show Mr. Fairweather and his Lowriders played at rockclub De Boerderij in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands.
As a guitarist Andy Fairweather Low played with some of the top rockmusicians in the world: Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Joe Cocker, Roger Waters and George Harrison a.o.
He scored a string of hits in the 60's with popband The Amen Corner, and made at least one great solo album in the 70's (Spider Jiving).
    THANKS TO JOHN TAYLOR MANAGEMENT

Good to see Hank Marvin get the recognition he deserves. The Shadows inspired a whole generation to start playing guitar in the early 60’s.

In the UK, yes indeed. But in America it was The Ventures that got instrumental bands rolling. The first generation of Brit guitar heroes all worshipped Hank Marvin.
The Ventures “launched a thousand bands,” said John Fogerty in his induction speech for their entry into the RRHOF. Ventures and Hank Marvin and The Shadows
lived parallel lives, just on opposite sides of The Pond. Both great bands who set the bar high for all who followed. The Ventures are the biggest selling instrumental
band of all time - over 100 million albums - and are still worshipped in Japan.

    Hi Andy
You used to come into my Uncle Fred's shop. (When I was a kid.)
When you visited your gran. In Ystrad Mynach.
You were just starting Amen Corner and you asked Fred's advice, as he was a decent jazz piano player.
A few weeks later you were on Top of the Pops BBC; and Fred said.....What's he doing on there?
Fred was watching it in Martha's house next door, as he didn't have a TV. He only listened to the radio.
Then later he said to me....I taught him all he knows! 😃😃

I met Mr. Low in Berlin in July, 1990 at the Roger Waters production of the Wall staged for charity to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was a gentleman and very down to earth; I was surprised he showed sincere interest in who I was and how I came to be there, even though I was a nobody... I just had a friend who was lucky and talented enough to be in the show. He's the genuine article.

How fortunate we are...to live in a time when...in seconds... we can track down and listen to every single one of the pieces that Andy talks about. I used to live in southern Georgia in the 80's ... and I met a sound engineer from England who was traveling around and recording all the out-of-the-way blues and spirituals that he could track down. He spent years doing it (typical eccentric Englishman). Archived somewhere now...but I wouldn't be surprised if I could track it down in moments on the net.

What a great interview and what a great guy! Andy shows us that the guitar universe is endlessly larger than most people think and, if anything, is not defined by flash and big hair. Andy’s number one, ‘Wonderful Land’ by the Shadows, also did it for me 60 years ago and its magic still works every time I hear it. “Simple, we can all do that”…. “No, you can’t!” just about sums it up.

Andy is a master of his craft. Interesting to see him talking about other greats with such humbleness and admiration. Listen to that smooth guitar playing on "Every strangers eyes" by Roger Waters from the "In the flesh" tour. That's just one of many examples of how Andy is able to add texture and ideas to other people's songs, and I believe it works because he really owns it when he plays guitar. also a great singer and songwriter.

What a great musician and humble guy. I have always been a fan of Andy and his playing and it was good to hear from the man himself. He's played with the best artists in the world and he is a world class musician.
