Having used the GL Inet AR300M for years for both work and travel, I'd caution against using the GL Inet firmware and just use vanilla OpenWRT. I'm not saying that a Chinese company is doing anything untoward with your data (I'm not smart enough to figure that out) but the performance is much better using OpenWRT. Only downside is OpenWRT is not as user friendly to configure the router.
I have an older version. I find it handy to use the same SSIDs and logins for this device to make it easier in a hotel when connecting my phone, iPad or Mac. I also configure the LAN IP range to match my home range, so I can configure RasPi devices while in the hotel room, and have them ready when I get home. I run AdGuard on the RasPi in the hotel. The old version does not have 5G or USB3.
Great informative video, thank you! I have a question regarding the VPN: I would like to set up a HTTP Proxy and connect it to a VPN. I read that it’s possible with the gl.inet but I would like to have different IP addresses for different phones connected to the router. My questions are: 1) will it be possible to switch the IPs without a big hustle in-between connecting the phones? 2) do you think social media platforms like TikTok should be able to detect that it’s a VPN or will it be safe since the VPN isn’t on the actual mobile device but on a router? I hope you can share your thoughts on these-would appreciate it a lot 🙏🙏
What are you plugging the router into? I do not get internet when I plug the router into my computer and it is not picking up my wireless connection either.
can you connect a switch at the physical LAN port and have more clients utilizing VPN that the gl-inet has dialed into? can that be a workaround of vpn provider's number-of-device-limit restrictions? since in this case, technically, it's just one device that's dialing-in over vpn which is the glinet
Bit of a noob but hypothetically if one were working from home and wanted to work on holiday, but the company didn’t allow it, would it be possible to disguise your IP using this device?
Great comprehensive review. I have installed a Cat5e network in my house in the UK and have tested Openwrt fast roaming (802.11r) using several Raspberry Pis on the wired network. I now wish to replace the Raspberry Pis with some dedicated hardware. The gl.inet gl-mt1300 (beryl) looks a very good candidate. Is fast roaming (802,11r) available when using the LUCI interface? or does the inbuilt wifi access mode doe the same thing?
You should enable the button setting if you are using a VPN, because it allows you the router to automatically startup the vpn client if you have the Beryl setup to auto reboot. I have my vpn routers, to include the Beryl, set to auto reboot while I'm alseep.
Hi, not sure how to ask this question but here it goes. I am trying to use this router to connect to my work network. I am using a mobile hotspot with a sim card to route internet to the router. It connects and works on laptop, phone etc but not on my work computer. May be because I work for a bank and security is tighter? Not sure. I am trying to set this up as a contingency plan in case electricity or home internet goes down. I also plan to travel and want to have it as a backup. Any way I can hotwire the hotspot device? Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
Hey I wasn’t able to find any US servers using mullvad wire guard. Under management within client wire guard I only see 212 servers. Let me know what I should be doing?
Have you found a solution for ...WIREGUARD with mullvad VPN once you set up or added the MULLVAD wire guard clinet there is no way to add the USA servers as they are too far down they list and they are not listed on the Gl. Inet options . How to add them ? any ideas?
can the server functionality of this device work if i am on a cgnat? what if i am doing a workaround via ngrok? i would suppose dyndns is still dependent on cgnat for it to work properly.
When I Googled: "beryl travel router how many radios", I found this: "Beryl has 2 radios, so using one radio as wifi client and the second as a wifi ap, there is no performance loss there. If you use the same radio, as in 2.4ghz for both client and ap for example, then you will cut the speed in half, as the radio needs to divide its attention between the two."
I'm gonna be honest when I say that it's been a while since I've used the device, but I'm pretty sure I remember being able to connect to another network wirelessly and use this as a repeater/access point.
OpenVPN is as dead as disco and going to the office for work. Wireguard is where it's at. Back when I was roaming the USA in an RV for a year, I had Plex running on my NAS at home and Wireguard easily handled streaming from it to my Macbook Pro pretty much no matter where I was. Walmarts w/overnight parking & free WiFi FTW!
can u show how to connect to a hotel wifi or rj45 connection. i purchased to travel with yet its impossible for me to connext to hotels connection.. please show us all how...time for class action agai st glinet
If the hotel has an ethernet port, you just plug it into the their ethernet port and one of the ethernet ports on the Beryl. It has been quite a while since I connected via wifi, but I know it can be done, so I don't think your class action lawsuit is going to hold any merit in the eyes of the law.
Per their website: Configure the function of the mode switch. It doesn't have any function by default. You can set it as a toggle to turn on or off WireGuard/OpenVPN client. docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/setup/gl-mt1300/more_settings/#button-settings

There's another guy who hooks this up to his cell phone and shows by example and MBS how it works and most importantly how well it works for those wanting essential purchase information. All the information on the menues looks and sounds good but does it work well in reality and I won't be mailing it back because it does not. This video is 28 minutes long I'm tired of waiting if you actually show the cell phone provide internet for consumers and does it well.
"Better" is a relative statement. The GL-XE300 requires an additional cell phone account to have the SIM card to put in it and not everyone can get an extra line.
@@DBTechYT require sim card but not neccessary.even when you insert sim card, then plug in WAN cable,it will automatically switch to WAN's network. So basicllay,GL-XE300 is better for me.😁

There is also a Beryl AX which is somewhat different. The first thing that I noticed on the AX is the missing Micro SD slot.
