First-Gen RAV4 5th Gear Replacement/Upgrade

If your RAV4’s manual transmission keeps popping out of 5th gear, it’s time replace the drive gear. While you’re in there, it makes sense to upgrade to a higher-ratio gear set to drop the RPMs when you’re in fifth. Everyone drives much faster on the highway nowadays compared to when these vehicles were developed, and although they aren’t sound-insulated all that well anyways, having the engine make a little less noise helps a bit.

Won't it cause problems going from 40 teeth to 42 teeth on the gear? Or is that why you also replaced the drive gear?

Just curious, do you need to replace the drive gear aswell in order to fix the “popping out of 5th gear” issue?
Or was that just you being extra diligent?
