+mark 123 There are plenty of guitar players who can play like this and I mean no disrespect here. Johnny Hiland is a hell of a player, certainly better than I would ever be. But Eric Clapton is Eric Clapton for a reason. My neighbor, who's only 25, is as good as this, which is amazing. But there is only one EC and a lot of Johnny Hilands.
+Rogie Cruz No, he's not. In fact he's just getting really good at age 25 and realizing it's not just the notes (or how many of them you play or how fast) but the space between the notes that set one musician apart from another. My young friend can already shred with the best; in fact most young people start off by learning to shred because it's what excites them. It takes longer to understand dynamics and phrasing, not just notes. Believe me, I bow before anyone who can play like Johnny Hiland. It's just not the only thing that makes a great player and it's not what I prefer to hear if I want some blues. Feel the same way about Bonamassa, who's a complete and utter guitar master and who I have utmost respect for. But his blues playing is really rock, a lot like a modern day Cream. I cut my teeth on Cream at age 18, so I understand what it was. No, I could not play like the Mayall-Cream-Layla Clapton but Cream was rock, really not blues imho. Hence, Joe B., hence Johnny H., etc. That's all, good food for discussion and thought, though. Peace, out.
Johnny is from another planet. He’s scary good, if they’s a guitar GOAT, it’s him. And he’s blind and has chubby short fingers. Go figure. I worry about his health though.
Robert Hurless i play bass too, and not really, weather its as basic as Paul McCartney or advanced as mark king its just takes time. "hard"is only a word from the simple minded.
+Robert Hurless all it takes is practice...when u can play the song without thinkin about i,t singing becomes real easy...just an opinion from another old bass player
I wish JH would stick to country guitar playing. When it comes to rock and blues and jazz, well, let´s just say many other do that very well and JH´s star shines the brightest when it comes to "chicken´pickin´". JH´s is not a rocker, he doesn´t have to cover every style, but those extremely talanted guys never seem to know their own good, do they? I worship JH when he´s in country-land. Please don´t migrate, Johnny!
+Magnus Hartelius I'm with you. Yes JH is a smoking hot blues player but so are hundreds of other guitar players. But in the country and country / rock arena Johnny is WAY out on his own . . . SO tasty to listen to.
HI from Texas, Johnny lives not far from me in Austin he is more amazing than you see here for all you that think the guitar gods are good just don't understand Johnny mine is so amazing and fast that he plays more in a verse or two than they will ever know , you must give him the credit he is a living ingenuous gentle giant.
fyrcrack1 Yeah, I hear You. It´s really strange, one of the worlds sharpest pickers with a bass player/ "singer", not even medioker. The drummer is good though. But You definitely have a point, what is going on there? I don´t want to be mean, but the bassplayer seem wrongly located.
Johnny Hiland is my hero!!!!!! I can't believe how many styles he is a master of!
I absolutely agree! He is a genius musician, but I also notice the drummer is very excellent!

clapton? oh, thats a joke. got it haha
johnnys great but he aint toy.
If Leslie West was "MOUNTAIN, then Johnny is EVEREST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except for Arlan Roth, the best picker today!!
Just in case anyone cares, I am a bassist. And it is VERY difficult to play bass and sing at the same time.
Robert Hurless i play bass too, and not really, weather its as basic as Paul McCartney or advanced as mark king its just takes time. "hard"is only a word from the simple minded.
Tommy Varekai And you're simple minded. Nuf said.
+Robert Hurless all it takes is practice...when u can play the song without thinkin about i,t singing becomes real easy...just an opinion from another old bass player
+johncartelli Thank you, I appreciate that.
Robert Hurless, then you must be a fan of McCartney, Bruce, and Lee

Are you kidding me, JH is one of the very best guitarist, blues or otherwise on the planet. He can shred any style music he wants.
+Magnus Hartelius I'm with you. Yes JH is a smoking hot blues player but so are hundreds of other guitar players. But in the country and country / rock arena Johnny is WAY out on his own . . . SO tasty to listen to.

Johnny can play anything he wants
god that bass player is annoying. johnny just shreds
The bass player can't play or sing. I wonder what he has on Johnny.
Tell us about your gig, smarty pants!
fyrcrack1 Yeah, I hear You. It´s really strange, one of the worlds sharpest pickers with a bass player/ "singer", not even medioker. The drummer is good though. But You definitely have a point, what is going on there? I don´t want to be mean, but the bassplayer seem wrongly located.
+fyrcrack1 probably his friend.
+guitarHero1885 Wrong. He's a member of the Johnny Hiland Band. At least he was at this point in time if he is no longer.
Bassist should stop trying to be a showman . . . he comes off as a show off !!!!
play your own shit,MTB was Fantastic.
No good bass
