Health Tip :- If Irn Bru is too sweet, just dilute with about 50% Vodka. That generally reduces the sugar rush.

Many years ago now my niece was getting christened, my sister was living in Buckfastleigh, in Devon, and being catholic, this was done at the Abby. My mother got talking to one of the monks, one of the senior monks, and was invited to partake of a glass of Buckfast wine, or two. I ended up with her feet, my dad had her arms, all was fine until she came round, talk about a grumpy head! My sister was not impressed.
Just so that my niece was aware what happened, she was only a very young baby at the time, at her eventual wedding, my mother did the same, again, got talking to the priest at the reception, this was in Claridges, and it was Champagne, not Buckfast wine, she has not touched it since that fateful day, also I don’t think Claridges would serve such a beverage, as my niece was making her grand entrance, my mother fell at her feet in a very drunken stupor.
It was all videoed by the wedding photographer I still have the video.
On odd occasions I mention to my niece that it would be a good video to put onto youtube.
As my niece is now fairly famous, had a TV series, and some other high profile ‘things’, she is really not impressed.
Catholics in general have no problem with alcohol as in drinking the stuff.

Good Morning - I have only recently stumbled upon your site, and gotta say it's enjoyable. You are fun and don't appear to be overly scared about trying things, or more importantly what some folk say. Pleased to hear that you have a bit of Scottish ancestry and particularly enjoyed the Scottish foods with Bucky, I have to say I was initially thrown due to Buckfast obviously being produced in England, but you did point that out. I was worried as I thought you were going to try Tennants Super Lager, now if you haven't heard or tried that, it could be worth googling. Keep up the great work and as I do a lot of travelling I will work my way through the rest of your videos. Take care.

Favourite food is anything you might order at the restaurant Opium in Glasgow. Such a great little place to eat, anyone in that neck of the woods should go! Bonus points for them using lockdown to feed the homeless around Glasgow. Lovely people.

Best thing about Irn Bru is the ads. It was banned in the US for a while due to the food coloring used. I think they substituted a different one for export now. You can sometimes find it at specialty grocers.

Hi Alanna, I live in Tunbridge Wells, and The Pantiles Tap (on the Pantiles, obviously) always has Thistly Cross on tap. The Tap also has a 'Great wall of Cider' for you to work your way through :) Man they really do love their cider in there. Thought you might like to know that. I am reasonably pissed at the moment and just ordered some Mrs.Tilly's rum and raisin fudge on eBay; pretty sure it won't arrive in time for my hangover but I can't wait. Yes I can.

Buckfast Abbey make another version of their tonic wine which is only on sale in The Republic of Ireland. This comes in brown bottles rather than green ones, has slightly less alcohol (14.8%ABV, rather than 15%ABV in the green bottle,) but where the 'Scottish' green bottle contains 30mg caffeine per 100ml, the 'Irish' brown bottle contains 60mg caffeine per 100ml.
