I was all prepared to laugh my ass off when all of sudden I realized “Hey, this is pretty damn good”. Paul Anka’s respect for this classic type of music is commendable and he does a very terrific job delivering the perfect vocal punch. Nice going Mr. Anka!
He´s always been of my "secret" favourites since the days when I was mainly into that Rock´n´Roll era stuff. (which, for me as a 1977 born, was in the late 80s/ early 90s before my taste developed into harder stuff... not that I ditched what got me into rock at all, my spectrum just widened) Still love his music and this album is brilliant.
It’s weird how suddenly a song that was so motivational and very action-film esque is turned into a bond-theme or a film-noir type of song just by changing the genre
If someone just told me that Paul Anka covered "Eye of the Tiger", I would been like "How does THAT work? Sounds lame." I'm glad I'm wrong. This is genuinely AWESOME!
The best Version. This Album is filled with many of genius covers ever. Paul Anka proves that he is solid as always & indeed to many of us 50's & 60's generation he remains one of all time favorite singers!
++Cyrus The Great I hated his early pop stuff. I still remember vividly absolutely loathing "Diana", and never listened to him, after that. This has been a revelation to me. I've a lot to hunt down and catch up on.There are fabulous big band arrangements on this album as well.
Paul Anka wrote the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and one of Tom Jones' biggest hits, "She's a Lady", and the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song, "My Way. I'd say those qualify as great songs or at least transcend time whether you like them or not.
I found this video by chance and was very surprised with the musical arrangement hyper creative. Who plays as I wind instrument (saxophone) knows that to make a suit of this caliber is required several test sessions. Congratulations to whoever posted this video. My left ear cleaner. Thanks and good music alive who criticize the hyper little songs will hear pops ... Grande Paul Anka
Grande, grande Paul Anka, que gran artista. El junto a Tommy Benet y Barry Manilow, increíbles. Sin duda que consagra esta joya sonora del Séptimo Arte.
This track was used over the closing credits for the BBC's coverage of the Men's Finals day at Wimbledon 2014. I love it ... might have to buy the album now.
3 years, and 2 months later, the Pyeongchang figure skating opening of the 2018 Winter Olympics brought me here.... well, it was his cover up Wonderwall but I wanted to check out the other stuff. A figure skater used it as his music
Risin' up, back on the street Took my time, took my chances Went the distance Now I'm back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive So many times, it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Don't lose your grip On the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive It's the eye of the tiger It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching all with the Eye of the tiger Face to face, out in the heat Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry They stack the odds Still we take to the street For the kill with the skill to survive It's the eye of the tiger It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all with the Eye of the tiger Risin' up straight to the top Had the guts, got the glory Went the distance Now I'm not gonna stop Just a man and his will to survive It's the eye of the tiger It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all with the Eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger
I can see somebody using this in a work of fiction where the hero gets zapped into the past and has to train to fight the guy who sent him there in the first place.
Agree, everyone has a right to an opinion, and my oppinion is that Paul Anka version, is very interesting. I am not a great fan of Paul Anka dispite I like some Jazz music. I dont know the reasons that you dont like, but I have some musical background and for me this version is not poorly arranged. I beleive that only the prejudice, can explain your position.
This isn't even the first album like this. I'm kinda fond of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé's cover of Black Hole Sun, and Tom Jones' Burning Down The House. (Paul Anka also covers Black Hole Sun on this same album)
But it's a cover song transformed into a different genre. it's not like Paul Anka lacks his own original content, too. Paul Anka is a pretty good Jazz artist. Just because the cover sounds different from the original doesn't make it shit.
++Merryn Robinson I've just come across this track, and so only now seen your question, and you've probably worked it out by now. Anyway, it's in 4/4 time. The key is F, major I think with "blue" notes rather than F minor.
Hilarious. If you need to defend yourself against comments, that means you do care. Add to that the 'need' to claim that you're a 'girl' and there you go. Step 1 of attentionwhoring completed. If you do not like the music, do not listen to it. This is a classic cover which is used for a long time. Any problems with that? No one really is too interested. It's probaly more to troll you.
spartanjoe1972 YA some old worn out artists hanging on to the end of their life by wrecking modern songs that have become hit standards. I saw this on a karaoke list.. and thought it was a mistake AND IT IS....
Heard this in Target yesterday - so yeah Target brought me here and I'm all in. Get it Paul!!

Heard this earlier today on the car radio, thought it was Franky Sinatry. Now I'm binging it and I LOVE PAUL ANKA SO MUCH!!!

Caught this at the end of episode of Gilmore Girls. No surprise since Lorelai's dog is named Paul Anka. 😉 He even did a guest cameo on an episode.
Same !!!

This is pure class.
Old Dads brought me here.
Me too
Currently watching 😂
Me also
Make that four of us....LOL I had NO IDEA this was Paul Anka.
Wtf me too
It's so good to feel that, he's carrier is not only the songs "Diana" and some others.

Smooth Jazz and Big Band rules!!!
The only way I want to ever hear this again

someone if you type in "pickin on series" in Spotify you will find entire albums of all kinds of stuff done in bluegrass. It's awesome.

This is when you sing 80's music in 40's style
*cough* Me *cough*
Surprisingly good!
The Best Version Ever!
'old dads' brought me here
It's a nice gambling version..classier
I like this better than the original !
I heard this at the grocery store today and thought it was Sinatra.
:) Funny :) :)
Paul is very very Good Frank was special
CTSCAPER “My Way” is a song written by Paul Anka. Practically it was a gift to Sinatra
He's written for Sinatra, and sang with him.. Proud Canadian that made it
I heard it at Big Y yesterday and I also thought it was Sinatra. Very odd choice of song to do!!!
@@allisonroche6399 I was at Big Y too, in Bethel.
i LOVE it period
Season 6 episode 10 of Gilmore Girls brought me here😂❤️

(Paul Anka also covers Black Hole Sun on this same album)
The lyrics of the song fit so much better within this style and genre than the original.
I didnt know that this song is a classic. I never thought that Anka is the original.
Неплохо-неплохо ... Особенно "РРР" в финале ))))
No sé lo que dice el resto.. a mi me encanta!!
Loving this through wimbleton is it the same person who sang 'having my baby'
sehr gut gesungen
But it's a cover song transformed into a different genre. it's not like Paul Anka lacks his own original content, too. Paul Anka is a pretty good Jazz artist. Just because the cover sounds different from the original doesn't make it shit.
Caretaker anyone? The caretaker version starts as 1:40 and pitched it down by -10%
Wimbledon 2014 BBC
Precisely. A truly entertaining closing montage by BBC. Would love it if someone would happen to upload it.
Question:which singer was called "The voice"? Answer:"the wrong one"...
Now this is awesome... anyone know where I can get the big band sheet music for this version?
Genial!

sorry it was survivor that did the cover it was first released in 1957 done by Johnny Ray
I don't think that's true tho
So you can't appreciate good, classy music like Jazz?
I bet you find dubstep and pop quite artful.
hey, why are you atacking people before they even say anything.

Me too first time I heard I thought it was Frank Sinatra too.
Very jazzy ;)
