Because you weren't wearing the ring on your index finger, your pulse results were never going to be accurate. The artery that goes down your arm continues through your index finger. This is where the strongest pulse would be found. The arteries that go through your other fingers are much smaller and are branches so the pulse is weaker and harder to detect.

@@JustSitAndLaugh I have an Oura ring - they tell you straight up that the best results will be on your index finger… making sure you have the right size will make a difference as well… better a bit too tight than too loose. Likely Shelby’s issues were due to the ring finger and also she might have needed to reset it… i had to do a reset after 3 weeks and after that it started tracking workouts much better. In summary- the oura ring is best for tracking sleep. Shelby, I’m glad you referenced the graphs and peer reviewed journal article. Thanks for the informative video! Always 💕 your stuff!
Two things not mentioned… you wore it for just one week and it takes one week to get dialed in to you before results become more accurate. There is a sizing kit available for free to dial in which finger to use. Personally I’m not a fan of the way the data is displayed and many of the features promised are not yet available… such as fitness tracking, SPO2 and more.

Love seeing cow in the videos. Thank you for the review. I hope you get black out curtains soon for the bedroom. Then I bet your sleep will really improve. Thanks Shelby
The question I have is, you compared the fitness application to the Apple Watch but you didn't compare the sleep tracking of the Apple Watch versus the ring. I would want to know how accurate the Apple Watch is vs the ring because idk if the Apple Watch tracks temperatures too? I sleep with my Apple Watch on every night to track my sleep. Along with fitness tracking the Apple Watch seems like a better option but it's not as pretty
Let’s get another, more in depth, review after a few months. Maybe exchange it for one that fits your index for the most precise readings it has to offer.
The thing about Oura rings is that their battery decays super quickly. I wore one every day for a year and then the batter on the ring couldn’t even last through the night
Very interesting! But I am curious about the Apple Watch sleep app. Apparently if you have a newer watch and wear it to bed, you can track your sleep. I wonder how it compares to the Oura.
The other cool feature about the Oura Ring is that it can also help you track your fertility. Natural Cycle partnered with them and this is the main reason why I want it, sunce I went of birth control a long time ago! I agree that having to pay a monthly subscription kinda sucks because the initial purchase is pretty high but also since I have stopped paying for contraception every month, it kind of evens out for me.
Great video Shelby! I love how detailed usually your videos are but I have to say that Oura ring is a sleep tracker, they have never claimed that it’s a fitness tracker. The activity feature is more to supplement the sleep score that the device gives you not to record your workouts. That being said, it’s not fair to compare it to Apple Watch. Besides that, great video!
If you don't continue with the subscription after 6 months, the oura ring will be basically useless because if you can't view the data, what's the point?! Massive downfall in my opinion. Definitely would not buy that 🤷♀️
When you said you got up six times to check the temperature it makes me wonder if there couldn’t be a way to collaborate with the nest to maximize perfect sleep. For example, I need the house to be extremely cold when I first fall asleep but in the morning it’s the heat that keeps me in bed.
I have the Oura ring and it always tracked my workout, I think I wore it for a year before stop using it because I got the gist of it. I knew when to sleep and learn how to tell when I got good sleep and when I didn’t. I would also recommend it if you had the money for it. I still use it as an accessory too.
Really good point about having to pay for tracking. I really love this review bc I’ve been obsessed with this but I have Apple Watch that I also love. Also ring stacking - thats me!
Tip! Wear your Apple Watch while you're sleeping and then turn on the sleep cycle app. The sleep cycle app uses the heart rate data from the Apple Watch which makes it much more accurate. You might need to turn it on from settings but it works great.

I have a Cpap sleep machine, so a little obsessed about the subject and very curious about the Oura, so thanks again.
It can even use your heart rate to detect illness before symptoms kick in. And you can add the workout you are about to do so it can track it. I have to add it on my Apple Watch so that doesn’t bother me as much. I also have an Apple Watch with cellular so I have to pay monthly for that. Thank you so much for the great review
I had the last iteration and now the new model of Oura and haven’t had the issues with fitness tracking. You may want to call support. It sounds like you might have a defect.
Can you compare the sleep tracking vs. the Apple Watch? I find wearing the watch at night annoying so I don't do it, but I am curious how the accuracy stacks up.
Exactly correct. It falls short on fitness tracking. I used the Motiv ring in the past but now use the Oura ring. It focuses more on sleep vice fitness though I dont care about my sleep. I dont subscribe. It also scratches a bit when I lift weights. I dont like the Apple watch.

You should definitely try the whoop band too! It’s the best and does such a better job for both sleep and workout., It’s used by many high performance athleathes too.
Shelby, you should compare the ring to a whoop! The whoop tracks sleep, energy levels, and workouts. I’d be interested to see if it works better than the ring and even the Apple Watch
I totally thought I wanted it until you said the monthly subscription, I agree at a price like that they should just allow you to see your data. I have trouble sleeping too. I usually get 5 to 6 hours a night if I’m lucky.
11:32 With the monthly subscription fee, the oura ring should come for free. Or you buy the ring expensive and do not have to pay a subscription. They are milking the customers on both ends. A deal breaker for me, despite me liking the concept a lot.
Great, informative video. Thanks for doing it. I don’t like the monthly subscription fee either. Hopefully they will see this video and how everyone wasn’t impressed with the fee. Great thumbnail too! 😊

YEP $400 + a monthly fee and then when you stop paying you lose essential features. No thanks everything is a subscription now and it’s out of control

You should definitely try the whoop band too! It’s the best and does such a better job for both sleep and workout., It’s used by many high performance athleathes too.
Shelby, Have a handful of cherries or a cherry concentrate drink before you go to bed. You'll notice the difference with your sleep!
Why track your sleep ? Like what do you do with the information?
Could you link the video about the amazon halo? I can't fnd it in the description
Shelby, you should compare the ring to a whoop! The whoop tracks sleep, energy levels, and workouts. I’d be interested to see if it works better than the ring and even the Apple Watch
Does it track steps?
thank you so much shlinda:) I am just a gladiator flip flip princess
i can never sleep unless i have youtube videos playing in the background....
Please try the WHOOP is a bracelet fitness tracker, but they have other way to wear it to track the results
I used your Airbnb code I didn’t see the $40 Off when I booked ?
I did not know there was a monthly prescription what the heck?
I wonder if wearing the Oura on the ring finger, instead of the index, impacted how the ring recorded data-Maybe that's why the data wasn't recorded?
This is probably a question that doesn’t have much do with the video which I really enjoyed by the way but what is the name of the font you were using in the video I’m a font nerd and I love that font I want to use it on a project it familiar but I can’t place it thanks again and thanks for sharing your talent to go check it and
