From 4:20-5:08 you need to understand that THIS is the reason this man is one of the TOP TEN DRUMMERS on the PLANET. And the MUSICIANSHIP from 7:58-9:03 and the TONE and TEXTURE that he is playing with can not be learned in a school. And the COUNT at 11:44-12:28 is ABSOLUTE MASTERY!!! CRAZY!!!
@tlckc1b That's his signature lick. He does on almost every recording he does. It's just para-diddle-diddles starting with the left hand (LRLLRR) with the left hand on snare and right hand on toms. The thing that makes it so crazy is Calvin's phrasing and placement.
Anyone know what the 2nd set of brushes he uses are? I've got Vater monsters but I'm desperate for a set of the brushes he uses. I've seen J J Johnson using them. They kinda look like like they're made from natural brush fibres.
Naw the guy standing up is THAD and the guy sitting down is RODNEY JONES, two of the coldest Bass Players on planet Earth. Then next to Rodney is LIL SCOOTER aka JERRALD GRAY JR. and he's a killer on drums. Chicago, has so many A-LIST MUSICIANS at every instrument its a shame.
