I'm Russian. And I'm sure that the hitchhiker was not a threat to You. Although he wasn't smiling. He tried to ask You to use a translator. And I advise You the same. You can use voice, and you can print the text. So it will be easier. You have extra challenges and fears of not understanding the language. And do not think that if the Russian people don't smile when you first meet, then it's bad. In Russia needs some time for this purpose. The important thing is that You get help. Don't be afraid! Sure we have many good friendly people in Russia)))

You are mistaken, sir, the Russians had much more reasons for smiles during the Soviet Union than today.
It's just our mentality. It is not customary for us to smile for no reason, but this does not mean that the Russians are angry.
I believe the reason Why they walk very fast Its because of the cold weather out there , When you walk very fast It keep your BODY WARM and also burn your CALORIES

After I discovered your channel a couple weeks back, from that very day I have become fan of your vlogs. The reason is its simplistic nature, and the lucid style of your presentation. I feel like I am also travelling with you in Russia. Whenever you try to talk to some people there, and they reply you in Russian, and you try to understand them, I also feel same sitting in my home in India, whereas you are roaming in the roads, buses, trains in Russia. When you find some English-understanding fellow, and the smile or some kind of relief comes to mind about expressing your queries to them, I feel the same too.
Your style of presentation is so simple yet soul touching that it creates a virtual reality around the viewers of your vlogs, so that they can also have the sensation of travelling with you.
I have started to watch your Russia videos, and in the mean time I will complete watching your other vlogs in other countries.

As the American trip videos are being rolled out right now, I thought of having a look back at the Russian trip you had. And BOY oh BOY! The Russian hospitality is just mind boggling! Despite the language barrier, people are warm, gentle, kind and giving. Hitchhiking was much easier back in Russia even with the language barrier and now in America, you are getting help from Indians mostly. The latest American series has only strengthened the already soaring respect I had for the Russians! Man, Russia seems to be the place that I would want to go for a month-long vacay!

Off late, all the fruits and vegetables are produced in Russia after the western sanctions. Russians are more of asian behaved then western Europeans. How much they can struggle is a legend by themselves. They were neat importer of fruits and vegetables earlier and now they fulfill their own requirement and surplus they export too! Remarkable country and love Raj Kapoor and his hindi songs too!
