you can go to a O-ring supplier and buy balk O-ring material that size and super glue it together, they sell it in long lengths, just put it in the slot and when you get to the end glue the ends together
I've only used Energizer, Duracell, and Radio Shack alkaline batteries and all worked well. Attempted to use eneloop pro (Panasonic) Ni-MH rechargeables, aaaand they don't work lol. Wouldn't power on, and the manual states, "Eight (8) “AA” Alkaline or Lithium." Don't know why, but Ni-MH's don't work.
