សត្វឈ្លូសនៅអាស៊ីប្រភេទនេះស្ថិតក្នុងចំណោមសត្វចតុបាតតូចបំផុតក្នុងពិភពលោក។ វាមានកម្ពស់ចាប់ពី ៣៨ ដល់ ៦៣,៥ សង់ទីម៉ែត្រ និងមានទម្ងន់ពី ១៥ ទៅ ២០ គីឡូក្រាម។ វាមានដើមកំណើតនៅអាស៊ីខាងត្បូង និងអាស៊ីអាគ្នេយ៍ ដែលរួមមានប្រទេសកម្ពុជាផងដែរ។
ចំណុចពិសេសដ៏គួរឱ្យភ្ញាក់ផ្អើលបំផុតនៃប្រភេទសត្វនេះគឺថាសត្វឈ្លូសបង្កសំឡេងស្រែកប្រហាក់ប្រហែលនឹងសត្វឆ្កែដែរ។ នៅក្នុងព្រៃ សំឡេងរបស់សត្វឈ្លូសនេះ ទាំងឈ្មោល និងញីតែងបន្ទរជាពិសេសនៅពេលយប់។
ចំនួនសត្វឈ្លូសនេះបច្ចុប្បន្នកំពុងធ្លាក់ចុះ ដោយសារការបរបាញ់ដើម្បីជួញដូរ។ USAID មរតកបៃតងចូលរួមចំណែកក្នុងការអភិរក្សប្រភេទសត្វនេះដោយគាំទ្រគម្រោងរេដបូកដែលផ្តល់ហិរញ្ញប្បទានប្រកបដោយនិរន្តរភាពសម្រាប់ការដើរល្បាតរបស់សហគមន៍ និងការការពារជម្រករបស់សត្វឈ្លូសទាំងនេះ។

A deer that barks like a dog!
The Northern Red Muntjac (Muntiacus Vahinalis) is one of the world’s smallest species of deer. It measures between 38 and 63.5 cm tall and weighs 15 to 20 kg. It is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia, including Cambodia.
One of the most surprising facts about this species is that both male and female muntjacs make characteristic barking sounds, almost like a dog. In the wild, their barks can be heard echoing through the forest - especially at night.
The Northern Red Muntjac population is currently declining as a result of hunting and the bushmeat trade. USAID Morodok Baitang contributes to the conservation of this species by supporting the REDD+ project that provides sustainable financing for community patrolling and habitat protection.
