it just clicked to me how nightmarish air raids must have been for someone who was, say, 60 in WWII. You would have distinct memories of a world essentially without flight. Now not only is flight around to stay, but you're literally watching the world you've always known, your home, be blasted away by hulking metal behemoths flying threw the sky in the hundreds. I genuinely can't imagine what that must be like.
Deciding to go to school to be a pilot has been one of the best decisions of my life, and you did a great job on this video, it lines up with a lot of the stuff I've learned here at an accredited university.
To everyone asking about Santos Dumont, he left out tons of important figures in aviation. From French-men to English-me, to Germans, to other Americans, Russians, and pretty much every other well-industrialized nation at the time. To have included them would have made this a documentary, not a TH-cam video.

Dude... there's an entire stage of aviation history missing from this documentary. The GLIDERS. You simply cannot go from the Montgolfier brothers to the Wright brothers and skip Otto Lillenthal. Literally, none of the tech that made it possible to fly a device that was 1) self propelled and 2) heavier than air would be possible without the experiments with gliders.
Could've added something with Leonardo Da Vinci. He accurately covered all the theory about aerodynamics and how they work, also he even tried it to prove it in practice by making a prototype helicopter that would've been piloted similar to the bicycle and due to the lack of force needed he couldn't but he was basically few centuries ahead of the time
He didn't do much. The No. 6 airship was built 17 years after La France, and the 14 bis was not only built 3 years after the Wright Flyer, but was a VASTLY inferior design.

The first 50 years after the Wright Brothers flew saw the biggest leaps in aircraft design and performance. However, the last 50 years in aviation have seen huge leaps in technology regarding instrumentation and avionics. Now in 2020 airplanes are talking to each other more than ever. It’s crazy!

Few extra WWI plane facts: Pilots had to where multiple layers of coats and such in order to stay warm. They would fly at heights that are actually illegal to fly at today in America without extra oxygen. Furthermore, the guns being on top of the planes were not always used by a second person. For many planes, the pilot would have to stand up out of his pilot sit, control the plane with his legs, and fire his machine gun in short burst. The clip (actually not called a clip) in the machine guns can be emptied in less than a minute. If he emptied it, they would have to change the clip for second and last one, with process that is A LOT more complicated than it you may imagine. Also, the cockpits were super small. Like child size small.

Thats actually a good one. Native americans and far east siberians would have more similarities, although they would still be vulnerable to european diseases. And once the european powers entered America, and then the Russian Empire expanded all the way across Siberia, they would meet. Alaskian and Canadian demographics and culture would be different, as it would have more russian blood in it. Maybe Alaska would even remain russian, and there could be some disputes with Canada as the russians might wanted to expand even further in. But due to the remotness of said land bridge if it existed, I'm not sure it would change much of history in regards to World War I and II. Until the Cold War that is. Imagine the Cold War but with US and USSR having an actual land connection.

And even if he didn't really invented the plane, he was very important to the history of aviation any way. He was way more important than some guys the video mentioned, so it's kinda weird Dumont wasn't mentioned.

On the first flight at kitty hawk the wright brothers didn’t use a catapult, they got off under their own power. They only used a track because they couldn’t use wheels on the sand.

@@Meirstein 14-Bis, the self propelled vehicle that flew in front of hundreds of people, gave Dumont 100k of French money (francs?). Again, better than a catapulted glider.
All of the Wright Flyers were powered, not gliders. The Wright Flyer III, built a year BEFORE the 14-bis, was able to fly in a 25 mile circle. The 14-bis couldn't fly the length of field in a straight line without crashing multiple times because it had a useless and dead-end control system. Putting wheels on a plane does not mean you invented it.
Aviation is powered flight, The Wright brothers first flight (Airplane, the main Aviation vehicle) was on 1903, while Dumont was too late and his powered Airplane set off in 1906. Wright brothers are the fathers of aviation, not Dumont.

However, the last 50 years in aviation have seen huge leaps in technology regarding instrumentation and avionics. Now in 2020 airplanes are talking to each other more than ever. It’s crazy!

Few extra WWI plane facts:
Pilots had to where multiple layers of coats and such in order to stay warm. They would fly at heights that are actually illegal to fly at today in America without extra oxygen.
Furthermore, the guns being on top of the planes were not always used by a second person. For many planes, the pilot would have to stand up out of his pilot sit, control the plane with his legs, and fire his machine gun in short burst. The clip (actually not called a clip) in the machine guns can be emptied in less than a minute. If he emptied it, they would have to change the clip for second and last one, with process that is A LOT more complicated than it you may imagine.
Also, the cockpits were super small. Like child size small.

Thats actually a good one. Native americans and far east siberians would have more similarities, although they would still be vulnerable to european diseases. And once the european powers entered America, and then the Russian Empire expanded all the way across Siberia, they would meet. Alaskian and Canadian demographics and culture would be different, as it would have more russian blood in it. Maybe Alaska would even remain russian, and there could be some disputes with Canada as the russians might wanted to expand even further in. But due to the remotness of said land bridge if it existed, I'm not sure it would change much of history in regards to World War I and II. Until the Cold War that is. Imagine the Cold War but with US and USSR having an actual land connection.

I literally had to look him up because of this comments section, and then do some internet research on him and the Wrights. As far as I can tell, Dumont invented the landing gear, but not much else (in regards to heavier than air aviation).

And even if he didn't really invented the plane, he was very important to the history of aviation any way. He was way more important than some guys the video mentioned, so it's kinda weird Dumont wasn't mentioned.

The No. 6 airship flew 17 years after La France. The 14-bis was built 3 years after the first Wright Flyer, and was of a monumentally inferior design. Consider your mind changed.

All of the Wright Flyers were powered, not gliders. The Wright Flyer III, built a year BEFORE the 14-bis, was able to fly in a 25 mile circle. The 14-bis couldn't fly the length of field in a straight line without crashing multiple times because it had a useless and dead-end control system. Putting wheels on a plane does not mean you invented it.
Aviation is powered flight, The Wright brothers first flight (Airplane, the main Aviation vehicle) was on 1903, while Dumont was too late and his powered Airplane set off in 1906. Wright brothers are the fathers of aviation, not Dumont.
