I have 2 of these in my back garden and they really are one of my favourite plants. I like to prune mine into a tree form, I just peel off the old leaves every year and just keep the new ones. I’ve recently planted 3 of the ‘spider’ ones in my front garden and I’ll do the same to those as I like that look. Loving your new channel 😊
I love this plant. Growing up in Japan, I remember seeing it at almost every garden. It is called "Yatsude" meaning 8-fingered hand. The leaves look like hands with 8 fingers (not always 8). I am crossing fingers that mine will be OK after a few weeks of frigid temperature.
I have 3 of these in my DFW Texas garden and love them. They did have some dieback last winter when we had unseasonably cold temps for several days, but came back vigorously in the spring.
I definitely need to source at least one of these for the shady boundary in my back yard! I have very few pretty evergreen things to look at this time of year back there.
This is my second year with this plant and its growing beautifully in an area where shade or semi shade plants usually burn. First year blooming in zone 8a. These flowers are exactly as you described even though I was expecting a different type of white flower seen on an old Fatsia in my neighbors yard. Leaves are definitely the focal point.
Hello! I live Tx in 8a and bought a fatsia maybe a month and a half ago. I just fell in love with the leaves❤️. I REALLY REALLY wanted to plant it in my yard but got cold feet for fear I would loose it during our extremely hot summers, so I potted it up and put it on my porch. I was wondering where you were in the 8a zone and how hot/cold you get there? I’m looking for the courage to plant mine out in the landscape because it would be gorgeous, but I don’t want to loose it. I loose a lot of plants because I’m fairly new to gardening!
I'm in zone 10 and have this in a good-sized container located on the north side of my home and it is doing amazingly well. I haven't seen any flowers yet. It is about 4 feet high and I have some leaves that are over 12 inches across. I don't know if this had anything to do with using some Miracle Gro. Best part-shade plant that I have found so far. I do love the tropical look of this plant.
I have been looking for a plant for under a maple tree. Love the looks of this shrub, reminds me of a houseplant. Will definitely be on the lookout for a couple of these.
This is a beautiful plant. I really appreciate all the information you give us. I'm in 7a and don't have much shade. So unfortunately I can't have one. I'm loving this channel.
Helpful information once again! I have a fatsia japonica in a nice shade garden by my shed. It's going on year 3 and I'm hoping for some good growth this year. The deer decimated the shrub the first year (zone 7b), so it took some time to recover. But now I know to spray it with my deer deterrent.
Super informative video. I’ve been thinking of getting one in zone 7 so good to know that the place I was thinking of for it by my front door would be good protection for it.
My fatsia grow well in north Atlanta zone 7a or b depending on which map I use. One is in unprotected shade and one in unprotected part sun. Both are 8' tall. They give a tropical look to the garden and are very easy to propagate. Last year I even stuck a leaf and stem in the ground to see what would happen and it grew too.
Love the leaves of this fatsia! I also think the flowers are really unique and pretty. I’ve seen mature plantings at my workplace and I would love to add some to my garden.
Hi Jim, I have a fabulous fatsia that flowers amazingly and is super healthy without any care. I wondered how to propogate and when to do this? I would love to repeat plant it in my shady north facing garden. Thank you for an informative video and any advice you can offer. Jane
I have a Spider's Web Fatsia in a protected location in Zone 7B Maryland. Despite the protected spot, it has taken some winter damage the last two years so I've started to cover it on exceptionally cold nights. It seems to bounce back well in the spring though.
Your plants are beautiful. I have a couple out back I love them and check them a couple of times a week. One thing I would like to know is how to keep the leaves that rich, dark green color. Some of the leaves are light, almost yellow. It's not a big deal but love the dark green. It suits the garden better. I think it looks healthier too.
Hello, I am in desperate need of plants that will live in the shade all day until about 4 p.m. they get the sun until 7 p.m. during the summer. Thank you. *Zone 7b SE TN
You've made a good case for this plant. I had a bad experience with this plant in New Orleans. The previous owne of the house put this plant in the wrong place. Not the plant's fault. I will reconsider.
I’m interested in acquiring this plant but I am in zone 7a area. Would I need to take this plant inside during the winter? Or could/would I be able to leave it outside and build a good height of mulch to protect during the winter? Thanks!

Interesting plant. Thank you for highlighting some of your favs.
I love the large leaves and have brought one into my landscape last year. ❤️
Nice plant, looks tropical.
Beautiful. I love the big showy leaves.
Love this channel just heard about it think I am up to date and want everything 😁
I don't think I've ever seen this plant. Thank you for sharing.
I love the leaves! Thanks for showcasing this one. I need some shade plants for one of the back corners of my house.
Came back to rewatch this. I got one of these to plant near my fountain today. ❤️
This I will add to my garden this year for sure!
Thoroughly enjoyed this…so informative. Thank youuuuuu 🪴
I thought about possibly getting getting one of these and now I am going to get one for sure!
I really want one of these. I have a part shade spot in a new garden space I just moved into. I can’t wait to try it! Thanks for the wonderful info.
Good to know that I should plant this as a foundation plan in my zone!
Wow, the variegated form is beautiful!
Just planted a Spider's Web Fatsia. Beautiful plant! Thank you for the video!
Beautiful plant- I’ll try it. Thank you !!
I have 3 of these in my DFW Texas garden and love them. They did have some dieback last winter when we had unseasonably cold temps for several days, but came back vigorously in the spring.
The leaves are striking! They could add interest to the garden.
Very interested in this plant. Planning a new garden bed and this might be one to chose. Great videos.
Fatsia japonica is on my list for the jungle/tropical garden that I'm planning.
I definitely need to source at least one of these for the shady boundary in my back yard! I have very few pretty evergreen things to look at this time of year back there.
Variegated form - amazing
Hope to find some of these!
Great cut leaves long lasting in floral arrangements
Enjoying this plant! In Raleigh and have this one in a dry shade area. It’s going well. Want some more!!
Your videos make me want to have all of the plants!
Thanks Jim! Just bought one at Homewood’s sale. Always looking for shade plants. Excited to try the variegated one. Great info as usual!
Let me count the ways I love fatsia! I planted my first this fall in a container and cannot wait to see it flourish this year.
thanks great info and confirmed what i have found about this plant (uk gardener here) ;-)
Love the tropical look!
I’ve had my eye on this plant to screen a fence line under large maples. Evergreen and full shade, this may be the year to try them!
Love your video style - brief, factual and practical! Do you ever do presentations at shows for the general public? Do you post a schedule?

Great tips on pruning.
This is on my to get list! So beautiful

I have the variegated variety and love it

I bought one on clearance for $1.50, but I don’t have any shade in the summer. I guess I’ll put it in a pot. Thanks for the information!
Fatsia is also on my list . I love the fat leaves.
I've never used this plant, thanks for the information.
What a beautiful plant!!
Might give it a try

I may try adding this plant as I have shade and deer.
Very informative Jim. Any suggestions for companion plants?
Love the leaves of this fatsia! I also think the flowers are really unique and pretty. I’ve seen mature plantings at my workplace and I would love to add some to my garden.
The flowers are unique if you live somewhere there is no Ivy.😂
New to 'Garden Plants'. Interesting shrub.
Beautiful plant.
Neat leaves!

Love the new channel - and how pragmatic you are making these videos. For us zone 6b-ers, we are just green with envy :-)
I love this! Could this be grown as a annual in a container in Zone 6b?
Sure. And bring it in as a houseplant

Love this plant!
Like the channel looking for shade options zone 10 this one will work great - thank you.
Neat blooms!
Love this plant- Have finally found a spot it loves (purely accidental) Mine was flowering like crazy this year

Thank you!!!
What a fantastic plant. Wish it would grow in 6.
Beautiful
Hi can this grow in a pot and brought in in th winter.i live in nj
Your videos are very educational , I have a 6ft wide Fatsia japonica and just wondering is it possible to split into two plants?
Is it necessary to use gloves when trimming? Thanks.
Is this an inside plant? I got it inside the store. It's beautiful! I don't know how to plant outdoors.
Do these come variegated?
In zone 8a trying to figure out how to incorporate this into my landscape to add a tropical touch. Would morning sun be ideal for this plant?
I love those leaves! Will it get those huge leaves if you keep it in the 4ft height? May have to add this to my shady area.
New plant to me so will try to find it.
My neighbor has a gorgeous one of these!
Do you know if they are hybridizing any of these (even variegated) as a dwarf variety?
You've made a good case for this plant. I had a bad experience with this plant in New Orleans. The previous owne of the house put this plant in the wrong place. Not the plant's fault. I will reconsider.
the variegated version is very pretty - i'm not sure i'd want to plant something that gets as big as my shed.
I think the Spider's Web Fatsia, like you have suggested in other videos (and in your current yard) will 'pop' in the shade. Or, in a moon garden.
Good info. Appreciate all the details at end of presentation. Would love to be selected for consulting. Am In one 8a. Thanks
Our neighbor has these, beautiful plants! (We’re in zone 8, his place is fairly shaded by large trees with a high canopy.)
That's the perfect spot!
Pretty! Too cold here for it 🥶
I love my fatsia. I now have 3. The deer have eaten new leaves on one of them but the damage isn’t too bad.
Is this available in a dwarf size?
Anybody know the best time to harvest the seeds so I can propagate them for more plants? 🤗
Mine has a small worm that is eating the leaves. Do you have any suggestions?
Do you find the variegated varieties more or less hardy? And do variegated varieties grow more slowly?
The flower is boil and cooked and eaten in my place
I have 2 of these close to house & after 25 years they are huge and I’m concerned about them damaging the foundation. Should I remove them?
Can they have red stalks? Red leaves that turn green?
Middle Tennessee
So far my Fatsia is surviving! It is one of my favorites!
I am in 7a. Most of my summer dry shade (protected next to house/shed) receives full winter sun. Is fatsia sensitive to winter sun?
I’m interested in acquiring this plant but I am in zone 7a area. Would I need to take this plant inside during the winter? Or could/would I be able to leave it outside and build a good height of mulch to protect during the winter? Thanks!
Grows in zone 7 near mountains so it's fairly hardy under shade trees or up against house in cooler side. Mulch heavily.
I love these, but so do my deer. I had to move it out in my landscape and put on upstairs balcony
I can attest that deer like this plant.
Love mine
👋😃
