Chase customer service is abysmal. They continue to debit for a safety deposit box that was emptied and closed two years ago when the owner died. The estate executor who was also listed on the account requested it be closed; Chase refused the keys, said the box would be drilled and emptied (we told them it was already empty and here are the keys) and they finally agreed to close it since they’re not issuing them anymore. Part of this is the woman’s fault. She should have hung up and called the number on the back of her debit card. This is also Chase’s fault. They probably should have made someone available to freeze the customers accounts BEFORE funds were transferred. Another thing, the scammers already had a lot of the customers information (account number, phone number, recent transactions, etc…). How did they get that information? Probably from someone at the bank. How is it that these scammers are hitting these accounts with high balances? How do they know which accounts to hit? The bank/account that the money was wired to was probably a fraudulent account. Banks are supposed to have safeguards to prevent this. It’s called KYC Know Your Customer.
