      Why is Multi Geekbench so low on the U22 ?
      As an example the ODROID N2 with Virtually the same S922X / G52 GPU clocks in at 4182 with only a very minor 1992 MHz bump.
      The S922X Ugoos AM6 Multi is: 4198

    If you want to upgrade your MINIX to u22 just beware that your previous remote control is not compatible with this new box and you need to spend another $50 to $80 for a a2 light or a3 remote control, if I connect my old remote to this box can't get any sound and MINIX doesn't want to fix the problem to sell more remote control 😠😬

    I've had MINIX U9 hardware in the past and hardware quality was great as well as Firmware bug fixes provided.
    I did pay for those bug Fixes with the high price of the box.
    Problem #1
    Users like myself have been let down by MINIX's OS upgrade policy in the past in that they have NEVER done a major OS bump EVER. eg. No Android v6.0 -->> v7.0 Nougat
    v7.0 Android brought with it noticeably faster GLES 3.2 rendering performance and made for a snappier S912 at the time.
    So I caution MINIX buyers that you may not get OS upgraded in the future. You will get Firmware support but do not expect major OS upgrades like you would see on the Nvidia Shield - or even a cheap Xiaomi Mi Box.
    Problem #2
    These Stupid new backlit keyboard MINIX remote's have deleted a very useful Mute button and replaced it with a really useless Settings button. The old reliable A2 lite MINIX remote had a handy Mute button - jeez I miss it.
    Problem #3
    Also these new backlit MINIX remotes have a most Annoying - Wake from Sleep - functionality where you have to press a button first to wake the remote up before you can use it.
    Frankly this double pressing button bullshit drives long term users like me nuts, especially those of us with previous A2 lite remote's that had no such problems.
    MINIX were told about this problem at least 2 years ago - and they failed to listen and fix it. NOT good enough !
    Problem #4
    This new damn remote chews through batteries as well like no bodies business. I'm really disappointed.
    The old A2 lite remote's batteries last 6+ months by comparison.
    Problem #5
    MINIX needs to change their marketing and pricing strategy - their hardware is far too expensive for what they are offering these days. The market has drastically changed since their last Android OS box release.
    $170 for a U22 - with a cheap Infra Red only packaged remote, with no Air Mouse Functionality is a JOKE !
    Moral of the story...
    Unless you are a real MINIX Fanboy - do yourself a favour and buy a 2019 Nvidia Shield instead, you will get Kodi HD audio there as well plus auto Frame Rate Matching - features which this U22 does not have.
    If you are a Kodi fan and need 4K HDR & HD audio with Auto switching everything there are much cheaper, far better sorted - AMLogic devices for that listed over on the Kodi forums running CoreELEC Kodi.

    This thing is overpriced, should not be more than $120 at max, at that price point will go for shield no doubt.

    The benefit this has over the nvidia shield is a lower cost, saving around £60. The Minix can also manage 4K, and identifies USB drives, not to mention full play store access. The nvidia shield is quite limited because of these restrictions, and I've given serious thought to rooting my device. Not necessary with the Minix box.

    Ok I've got an older model of this box, not much difference except for the Android pie.
    The biggest problem with these is that they overheat something terrible, no ventilation.
    And the next biggest problem is the antenna connection inside the box does eventually break.
    Also the older models do not update to the a higher version on android. Also only has casting and it will not pair with my phone or tablet, no other options are available. I would never buy another one.

    Hello, "Chigz";
    I appreciated your comment RE: the "watchdog" setting.
    You said if anyone knows about it to comment.
    So I contacted the MINIX office to ask about it.
    A Mr. Martin Yuan replied thusly;
    "Here’s what a watchdog do:
    A watchdog is a device used to protect a system from specific software or hardware failures that may cause the system to stop responding. The application is first registered with the watchdog device. Once the watchdog is running on your system, the application must periodically send information to the watchdog device. If the device doesn’t receive this signal within the set period of time, it would execute the proper keystrokes to reboot the machine or restart the application.
    It aims at protecting the OS from the failure of software or hardware."
    I'm not familiar w/ this 'technology'.
    It occurs to me that it could be used to 'spy' on the device & it's owner/user.
    If it is legitimate it sounds like a way to somewhat 'protect' the device but it its suspicious.
    I can see where it could be just a way to 'monitor' what the device does.
    Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on.
    Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

      Hi guys...
      U don't need 2 worry about it spying on u....
      It's basically a bit of software on the computer itself...
      It's often used in network devices like routers & servers that need 2 be up & running 24/7...
      4 example u would set it 2 check the router is able 2 connect 2 the internet every 5mins... if the test fails, the router automatically reboots, assuming the failure is in the router not ur internet connection it will fix the issue...!
      The RTC alarm setting...
      RTC = Real Time Clock...
      So once u have set the time u should have some where 2 set an alarm time & set that the device either boots or shutdown @ that time.
      Useful in eg. a dentists waiting room so the box automatically comes on in the morning & switches off in the evening without any1 having 2 do anything...
      Hope that helps...

      I bought a Remix android box about 3 or 4 years ago, and it became obsolete so quickly. It's like android phones, by the time your contract is due up, your handset is already old. Another year or so later and it's obsolete. Android media boxes are already 2 years behind phones. I just wish Google accepted that when a media box is good enough for 1080p or 4K, the player is going to stick till the next revision in display format. I'm sick of regular updates to try and make the device slower and slower, so we have to go out and buy something new, just to do what we already can - watching 4K videos

    Great review as always. However anything that does not have official Android tv is mostly useless. As it is not optimized for tv viewing and it will not support important tv apps like Netflix and Prime with 1080 or 4k resolution. Now what is use of such box which will limit your tv viewing experience with such low resolution. If one is on budget better go for MiBox or Meecool box (Although meecool don't have Netflix license until now, if Netflix is important for you and you are on budget go for MiBox).
    Tv viewing experience should be first job of any Tv box. Gaming and benchmark scores comes secondary for me.

  • @nickbasso5327
    @nickbasso5327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you sideload to update the firmware and Android version when they stop pushing upgrades? I have the NEO model they still sell but mine is several years old and cannot get the firmware upgrade and the company will not respond to my emails. So now, for example, My Netflix will not install their recent app version bc it wants a newer Android version and the Minix folks won't respond to me, effectively leaving me stuck with a box that won't run newer versions of many apps. Kind of sucks.

    Hi Chigz,
    Could you use analiti app instead speedtest as your tests show nothing really in wifi! With analiti you could show how well signal is picked up and rate. Also it would list network capabilities. That would be beneficial to people who stream over internal network.
    Another one could you start doing external storage speed tests? as example buy some usb 3.2 ssd external drive as test device and test speeds on usb 3 connections. We all know that blue usb connector means nothing its actual controller which matters! Would be really handy info for those who want to extend internal storage and ensure decent speeds possible without hindering device performance! CPDT app is also more in detailed when it comes to storage tests.

    Chigz It's quite alarming in 2020 that the number of devices that do not have Netflix and Amazon in 4k. Your own chart has about 5? is the licensing that pricey for them to not have it included?

    • @fernandocasillasjr
      @fernandocasillasjr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect that part of licensing Netflix ESNs requires a Netflix button on the remote. This may be why the 2019 Shield and MiBox S remotes have Netflix buttons. The U22-XJ has the root option out of the box. Netflix will not certify a rooted device. I've managed to stream Amazon Prime Video at 1080p on the U22-XJ.

      AM6 plus is better in term of root switch baby...

    • @fernandocasillasjr
      @fernandocasillasjr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought a Minix U22-XJ. One of the perks is the official forums. Amazon Fire Cube is better at handsfree voice recognition, Netflix 4K license, Amazon Prime Video 4K, and comes with Fire OS. This is not important to me. Minix has more storage built-in, double the RAM, Android mobile OS (with root on/off switch), Dualshock 4 support. The Minix runs Sega Dreamcast games beautifully, with upscaling. I've played DOA2 and Soul Caliber at 1080p. The 4GB RAM allows me to have beautiful live wallpapers and run intense games. Looks like the AM6 may have the Minix beat with very similar hardware, but better firmware. However Minix has been consistent with firmware updates, and the forums are a great resource to have.

    • @stoksyXL

      al No, the Ugoos AM6 Plus is the fasted box on the market today, apart from the Nvidia Shield. I’d get the AM6 Plus over the Minix U22, it’s more stable. The Minix has too many firmware bugs with it right now and an underclocked cpu.

      Android mobile OS doesn't make you sign into Google to set up the device. You can set up the box for streaming pirated media and resell it. On Android TV OS, you're required to sign into Google to set up and use the device.

    • @stoksyXL
      @stoksyXL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmed Alaraji Ugoos AM6 Plus is the best android box on the market today, apart from Nvidia Shield. Has the same cpu as the U22, but is running at full speed. The U22 cpu isn’t running at its full speed, but the AM6 Plus is. Also the AM6 has more frequent fw updates for it and is more stable, but there’s still a load of issues that need to be fixed with the U22 now. I used to be a minix user, but not anymore. If you’re looking for a good android box today I’d either get the AM6 Plus or the GT King Pro which is similar specs to the U22 but much cheaper.

      I don't think so. I the Ugoos and Minix are the only ones that offer the 4GB "J" version of the A113/S922X. I can't remember what variant the GT King Pro is. I think the Fire TV Cube might have a 2GB "J".
