Love this guys lessons! Perfectly explained and properly demonstrated. I thought I heard or detected a time phasing between bass drum and snare drum limbs briefly but even if so his groove and rhythmic cohesion was phenomenal throughout. He knows swing! It's a feel and not a pattern! His feel is jazz, his explanation technical. He knows more than he is teaching us

Just watching this made me get a really good idea about how to tackle Jazz drumming. The notations are useful and easy to follow, thanks!
I like that your edits "flowed" in rhythm when contrasting "jazz essentials" vs "rock essentials" and that the same overall quarter-note pulse passed through all. It's smart video editing :D
So for the second groove at 3:15 (you know how you play the snare in 3 different positions) I’m struggling to understand how to follow the visual cue in the bottom left corner in relation to this. What Is the big note symbol meant to represent?
You're great, man. That was cool how you split the set out visually. Amusing but it drives the point nicely. Your explanations are really clear, it's great to have the music showing there, and you have a real nice demeanor without ego. It's a cool idea to show comping variants. I haven't seen that before, although I'm sure there are plenty out there. Thank you. Hey, which Zildjian K ride is that? Your snare sounds great also.
wow, thank you so much for your nice words. Splitting the set like that was fun. I actually jammed for half an hour with both variations and it really needs some creativity. Especially the Ride + Hihat version.
Hi, there was an issue with the link.. I updated it and it should work now: www.dailydrumlesson.com/jazz-grooves-i/ If it still doesn't work, just write me an email (mail@dailydrumlesson.com) and I send you the PDF that way! Have a wonderful weekend!
hmm.. don't know why you get this message. I put the PDF in my dropbox for you to download. www.dropbox.com/sh/qqtiagbqiuvotsh/AACBrAeb5YM9Li3VuXyzvlxpa?dl=0
Well that works fine, so thanks very much. I play some Rush but have steered clear of Jazz because I haven't found any good (clear) lessons maybe I've jumped in at the wrong points lol, John X is good but they cut off (you then have to pay, which I have done in the past) These are great Thank you.Chris.
Hallo Chris! Ein zweiter Teil ist auf jeden Fall geplant, weiß aber noch nicht genau wann der kommen wird. Ich mach die Lessons immer so wie die inspiration mich trifft ;-)

This is basically the best explanation of Jazz drumming basis. It really deserves to be 1st in my search results. Thanks a lot!
Good lesson. The hardest part is keeping the swing beat on the ride
Definitely. It takes time to keep it going by itself!

You are a good teacher do you have a payment link. I want to buy you a beer. Thank you.
nice lesson, when it comes to fills, in jazz commonly you do them in triplets too? im a jazz beginner , cheers
yeah, I mostly use triplets. Of course you can do straight 8th or 16th notes as well, but it is less common.
Your vids are great. Where are you from?
4:08 faster = jazz metal
Hey! :)

p.2 ex.2 sounds a lot like the main groove to Louis Armstrong's Ochi Chernyie.
HI I looked at the pdf because I like this, but there's a YT message saying malware or disturbing content, any ideas? cheers.
