Philippines is progressing fast! Philippines has balance economy manufacturing & services, Philippines is one of the largest producer of chip semi conductors on the planet, one the leading exporter of electrical & electronics products on Earth, dubbed as " The International Call Center Capital of the World". Many many BIG Infra projects are ongoing construction all over Manila including the ambitious multibillion USDollar Hi - Speed Subway train.Phiippines is on track to become 1st world country.

@@FeloLopeManufacturing sector, we are lagging behind our south east asian neighbours, chips manufacturing i doubt if we are one of the largest producers, leading exporter of electrical & electronics products, not sure about it, outsourcing business, yes there is truth to it and big infrastructure projects. It all boils down to good economics & governance. Pnoy’s average GDP & economic growth during his time was around 6+ something, then Digong came bringing along with him his wrecking ball.

The so-called "6% annual GDP growth" in the Philippines is and will be useless if domestic employment generation is not broad-based where Filipinos without college degrees cannot get high-paying jobs due to the lack of business demand, thanks to the restrictive foreign equity ownership restrictions in key industries.

i don't think you can discuss merchandise trade without considering the value-added of major sectors. Philippine trade in goods is dominated by electronics, but most of our electronics exports have a high component of imported parts and intermediate assemblies. Is this changing over time?
My understanding is that compared to its peers, the Philippine economy has a bigger domestic consumption component. This might be good for insulating the Philippines from the fluctuations of external markets.

Better have more manufacturing in Philippines ,not services , manufacturing give better GDP. Per Capital, like neighbors have , because can boost export. Services is nothing compared to manufacturing.

Services sector produces wealth without having to mine and exploit natural resources. If natural resources get depleted, manufacturing industry suffers. But as long as there is manpower, services can produce wealth.

Since the previous administration there has always been a call for build and build for more infrastructures. But in the past fourth administration, the Ramos one, the emphasis was on export. I don’t know what happened. But I also know that there are IT parks (and not foreign-owned), big solar panel manufacturing, and food exports to Europe including a huge agricultural export particularly sugar, with its by-product which is Molasses, to different countries including the US. The second biggest export after sugar is copra with coconuts and its other by-products coming only second (to copra). Other agricultural exports are various tropical fruits. Fruit wines are also exported as well as beers and packed snacks while other food products are not, only for local consumption. Various local produce and sea and fish-farming harvests are numerous and are for local consumption as well as for abroad. For example, tuna in a part in Mindanao is a prized export product, and the tuna industry of the region is well-known in Japan. There are also handicrafts, furniture, home decors, and toiletries although perhaps not huge and likely to Europe only. The Philippines is also a big manufacturer of shoes although not exported. A part of the basic necessities such as clothings and those for educational and office usage are produced locally. Products such as electronics and cars are produced by foreign companies. There is also a big shipbuilding in Cebu building modern ships. Actually the country has been buiding Filipino-made modern-style big ships since the Spanish times for both passenger and cargo inter island shipping. But now there are other Asian shipping lines involved in the transportation of goods to Philippine international ports. A Filipino transportation company has been manufacturing numerous jeepneys since early last century. The country used to be the biggest manufacturer of steel in Asia. And various minerals in the country are mined and locally used and exported with gold as a prime commodity. There are also local product inventions but so far there is no news about mass production and exportation which perhaps may be due to lack of capital. Some say a Filipino invented geothermal power for producing electricity; however, it is confusing that the internet informs differently.
