i am full on hopium on the catterpillar. Hopefully we will see it soon after the Ironclad. My ideal caterpillar could be a type of mobile base builder, where i use the command module as a shuttle service while the main body contains fabrication, refining and habitation of the builders.
Hell yea! As long as your also patient ;) Yep the caterpillar is in the unique position to (maybe if the modules exist) build bases and fabricate things and refine stuff because of the module slots. All while carrying some cargo. By far the most versatile ship!
@@Luix_OS no rush :D Yeah, think many ships have a bit outdated Infos - some more and some less^^ But at the end its your Content i want to make and, I can only speak for myself, watch it no matter how dated the infos are because: When CIG didnt say anything u dont get anything new. An animal related module would be awesome. I think CIG said taming is not coming soon but that does not mean that you could not care for (or even breed) animals in enclosures. And while most of that kind of thing might be for a base module, there is a space for a animal capture and live transport.
As fair as i understand they went back on the Galaxy base building statement, saying something along the Lines of it still planned, just not for the introduction of base building, unlike the Starlancer bld wich will come with the introduction of base building
Data processing, control centre, EW. I guess Science and especially Research, seems a bit of a catch word of late. The emphasis on crafting/manufacturing bodes well for the capabilities of Nautilus and Crucible.
Great ideas! The problem is that modular ships would take over if they can do anything (be it slightly worse). And I just want science so I can use the Reliant Sen
Yea I dont know how that happened, my bad. I did some research on it and maybe I'll create a specific video about it. But all the information is veeeery outdated and speculative. Too many "maybes", "could" and "mights" in all the concept videos
@@Luix_OS I recall Cousin Crows was mentioned as a destination where you can get it all swapped out at. Also they said it would take time, so nothing would be instant. I'm assuming this will end up being similar for all ship changes. Either we will have to wait to do it via the menu or do it ourselves in the hanger.
@@tj7094 personally I want to fly to a location and deliver my ship for the change of modules. I hope what we have for the retaliator is just a placeholder
Yes definetly! As it was pitched in the concept PDF, the doors should be little elevators all the way to the ground. Also the cargo modules are really annoying because of their size, in my opinion
instead of just modules they could sell the parts within one as prompts that we can stick into any cargo bay to change it into something else by the utility of whatever we fill it with. maybe make prefab-SCU containers that can be entered that have "modules" within them with usable whatevers. that sort of stuff already exists, players could be more creative themselves with how they want to set things up and it could probably be done much faster. instead of swapping out the whole cargo bay for something else just let the cargo bay fill up with whatever the player wants to place inside.
You forgot the Gladiator (like CIG). The torpedo bay is supposed to be modular with cargo and search & rescue modules mentioned in the ship description and lore.
Good video! The galaxy is just a little too big for me and my friend. I wish there would be a smaller modular ship. And I doubt you'll find much about the hull B, just fyi
For smaller ship that also has some modularity you have the Vanguard or even smaller, the Avenger, it is unknown when room/pod swapping will be available on them.
@@niklasdahlgren7641 yea I read something about this. But there was so little information that I did not include it. I guess these changes are very far away
I wish we knew what Modules the Caterpillar is going to have. There is so much speculation it would be appreciated if we could get some clarity. I want to upgrade but I am torn between the Caterpillar and the Galaxy. I want refinery, base building and fabrication modules which I know the Galaxy has some of but I am a Drake fanboy.
Yea its mostly old and outdated information. You should also think about crew requirements. The galaxy needs 1 or 2 people more than the caterpillar to bw fully crewed. Otherwise both ships have their pros and cons
Since they remodeled the Cutlass, I’ve been of the opinion that that family of ships should have just been a single hull with a ton of swappable modules. Need medical beds? Load them onto the floor that already has magnetic locks for cargo, and clamp them down. Need an airlock on either side door? Just remove the door mechanism and replace it with a docking collar. Need a QED? Swap out the ceiling mounted tractor beam, and probably add an additional power generator as needed. Need emergency lights? Just add some aftermarket lights, but you’re going to need a permit with the authorities to use them. I especially think that Drake, this brand that in-lore is supposed to compete on price in every way possible, would choose this alternate production method to reduce costs, and their customers would benefit. This is the “PC vs Apple” approach. This is akin to how fleet-sales trucks work in real life. Need an ambulance? A tow truck? A work truck for hauling lumber? An electrician/plumbing truck? Just buy a pickup truck with a bare frame and add the appropriate box for your needs. Of course, CiG doesn’t employ people that actually think like this. They aren’t practically minded enough.
I feel the same way and I hope they implement modularity in such a way. But I think if we want the granularity you described we would have to wait another 10 years :/ I hope the caterpillar will get as many modules as possible so that would be pretty close to what you said. P.S the modularity reminds me more of Linux than Microsoft; Mac is fixed, Microsoft is 1 module and in Linux everything is exchangeable
Yess I totally did. But the few things I found are very conceptual and old. Maybe I'll make a video about the endeavour, if I can collect enough material
hell, i'd be happy if i could replace the nose tractor beam on my 315p with a size 4 gun like i can with my tana; but that's just too much to expect from CIG...
CIG also stated that in the Q&A for the Avenger series that the Avenger will be a modular chassis as well after the Retaliator is functional.
I heard about that, but I didnt look into it properly
But my guess is that the variants stay

What a great idea! A drake caterpillar barn haha
But if we ever get something with animals it will be in the far future, sadly
I want to turn a caterpillar into a piratey/rebel feeling snub fighter carrier
Hmm I'm not sure if it can carry Furys. And all other snubs might be too long.

True! Totally slipped my mind!
Hoping we get some more info in general about modularity

Yes, like repurposed shipping containers. But I think that would only be possible for a few specific type and for for refining or other bigger things
