Some of those flitches look like perfect firewood....
and yet next week the weather, well temps are scooting back up.... though I do like the hats.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Emerald runs that mill like she's playing a musical instrument.
Thanks for the comment. Boss Man.
She can play my ski. Flute 😅
Hey...WHAT ABOUT JADE!
Glad to see you girls bending at the knees and saving your backs.
the Queen Elizabeth wave!
Toooo phunny using the "Parade Wave".... lmsao love it.
An old mountain climbers saying. "If your feet are cold, put on a hat."
*_“The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD had done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”_* (Psalm 118:22-23)
Lipstick on, Hair Up, BF on site! Lucky Guy.
Thanks for sharing 🍸.
It looks like you had some fun making this video wearing your crown, the royal wave demonstrating you are the queen of the lumberyard.
That queenly wave has served me well for comedic effect for many decades!
Love see how u save an use all logs
First tjme I've seen Zach in long long time.
I think that was Andrew who is Emerald's boyfriend.
" One 4x4 is better than no 4x4" said the guy that needed one more post to finish his fence. Seriously, you people do good. Thanks for sharing.
Dave is right, a 4x4 is a money outside your own mill. My son and I were sawing yesterday.
Nice "royal wave" at the end! LOL Good to see getting as much use out of a valuable resource as possible!
Merry Christmas and happy new year for Lumber Capital Log Yard ...I miss you jade 😊
Hard to explain but I feel a zen like meditation when I see the mill running through the lumber
Me Too…Boss Man.
Can’t wait for warmer weather 🤣🤙
Give that guy the shovel he wants 😂
Didn’t mind the commercial break at all. Excellent video very informative and pleasant to watch.
Small logs are great for posts and timbers. 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 etc. Center the pith and you're off to the races. It minimizes the waste.
Right On…Boss Man.
Small logs work much easier when running with operator only configuration.
For the Building Code, all structural lumber must be Heat Treated and stamped.
As always, great music, great photography. You girls and your family are a real delight.
Thanks for the comment. Have a good weekend…Boss Man.
Lumber Capital Looooogg Yaaarrrd. I love these E & J videos and your hard working, cheerful expertise.
Very early for this one,
All the very best wishes to you 🇺🇸from us in the Uk🇬🇧🎉
4x4,2x4,1x4 they all sell good. A sale is still money in the pocket. Awesome ladies thank you.👍♥️♥️
Your funny Emerald!! 🤣👏
Was a builder for many years, retired now, builders building rustic, homes, cabins ,log homes might be a Great way to make more money on your small logs. As a builder he can pay you good money for ways he can offer little extras to his clients. I can think of many ways I could have used an had you to cut for me! One months interest payments will buy a lot of little extra touches. By the way you guys are GREAT.
The forest will eventually use tops and smaller logs for soil building which is not really a waste. I remember my Dad had a logger drop a couple hundred Beech tress so the more valuable trees would grow in. It took a couple of decades but there is no trace of those felled Beech trees today. Good deep soils make for a healthy forest. There is years of firewood left behind as well. If I had what the Boss has, two of the hardest working lumber ladies maybe things would be different. There is something to be said for not sending you children to college!
You ain’t wrong. I’d be so dang proud. But my daughters won’t obey anything I say. I look dumb to them whene I just keep working and offering to make a way for them.
Wow didn't recognize you with your hair braided ❤ looks chilly Have a great day everyone 📹👍👌😉☕️? Stay warm
We appreciate Emerald and Jade are actually dressed appropriate for the difficult and dangerous work they do. Other milling podcasts have the females dressed for viewership vs. the milling process. We enjoy Emerald, Jade and the Boss Man and Boss Lady’s knowledge and we also enjoy your downtime videos where you can appropriately dress for the activities. Thank you and keep up the great work, while staying safe. Kristine and Dean
Like their going to wear cutoff jeans in winter. Gosh, good call ladies......
@@joemendyk9994lol that's exactly what I was thinking. Emerald definitely would not be bundled up if it were 80. She's not gonna break the booty shorts out in 20 degree weather 🙄
Emerald, i'll adimit that the ins and outs of your woodwork generates interest, but the agreeable forms of you and sister Jade could sell refrigerators to eskimoes .
Here’s a suggestion that you might want to consider with these small logs. Custom builders would definitely buy pre cut one- wane edge beams for exposed ceiling beams-3,4&5 thick, and as wide as you can get, like 8,9,maybe more. I believe if you built up a stock of these and passed the word around, there are dozens of builders who would like to just pick’em up rather than make a custom order. A lot less slabwood in the end. You could also ask premium prices for these because these would be used in high end projects where art is involved. Love your spunk!
And crooked logs make awesome live edge slabs to make cool benches and tables and stuff.
they really need to mill for their customers... not too long ago they tried milling up and drying some hardwoods and they sat on that stuff for a long time... this stuff they could either put it through the mill or through the firewood machine and they decided to do some milling for inventory .. are they losing money.. not really but maybe not a lot of profit. its straight enough its hard to watch burn
Did you notice I suggested ‘putting the word around’ to local builders? Obviously, market research is the first step in introducing new products.
@@paulcaron-wm4tk Yeah i know and I have had my own suggestions in the past but they have been doing this a long time and know whats up so its best to just let them do their thing and enjoy it or don't... I mean heck you and I don't run a log mill but if we did we would have these thoughts.. they are bright enough to have these thoughts too... I am just saying... and you know i commented to you.. but look down the comment list and there are tons of people every video trying to tell them how to run their business... Imagine that.. if hundreds of people were telling you how to do your job at work and half.. maybe 99% of them never even did your job... and you weren't asking for help........
Yeah I have changed my frame of mind about these things.. its better to just enjoy what is and experience it.. and if it gets boring then find something else.
Merry Christmas to you... and I wish you the true meaning of that.. salvation is yours if you just believe.
The branches that "rot" away in the woods are actually the fertilizer for the next generation of trees. 🌲
I completely agree, plenty of branches are left without leaving the forest a mess after harvesting though
The difference between ORDINARY and EXTRAORDINARY is just that little EXTRA!
Hello Emerald and Jade. Great content, work and video. Always look forward to watching and learning. Nice Queen wave at the end there Emerald. Have a super evening all.
Have a good evening…Boss Man.
Agree to your way of thinking speaking with 50 years woods experience thanks for your videos.
I was wondering what you did with the small cuts glad you use as much as possible from a tree
So wonderful and considerate to take what would be wasted and make useful…….if more folks would take the lead you have taken
I always kept that in mind have little or no waste
Thank you for that hand action. I've been wanting to see more of what it takes to juggle that machine, but please also tell us what you are doing as we watch your hands navigate the levers.
Great idea for content. Thank You…Boss Man.
We cut small diameter logs into 4x4s, 6x6s, or whatever they may yield. Dunnage and cribbing have a market here. We can squeeze two dimes out of a nickel.
Great to see the smaller logs put to use while limbs and smaller sections will still provide habitat and nutrients up in the forest. Emerald, the hat does look fabulous, especially with the LCLY logo. Keep warm Ladies. ☕☕
Sound starts on the right channel only but then goes to both ya fixed it. 🙃
Great environmental impact, thanks so very much!
this family business runs like a finely maintained machine with top notch employees! its wonderful to see a successful small business. if yall was closer to north Ga. ida bought all my trailer deck wood from yall for sure. i did get it from a good small business in ga.
Using less than ideal logs, is part of my argument for keeping the LT-40 even after you get the LT-70. You keep the LT-70 on the truly high production jobs and do the lessor jobs on the slower LT-40 and LT-15. I can see Emerald on the LT-70, Jade on the LT-40 and Judah on the LT-15. Likely need three swampers, two on the LT-70 and one on the LT-40. Judah can work away on RR ties with out a swamper: just a hydraulic crane.
We need a down payment for the 70 so the 40 has to go…Boss Man.
@@KenBreon Sorry to hear that the 40 has to go for the down payment on the 70. However does that mean that a 70 is coming soon? My money idea won't help at this time because one has to get it set up and built up first, but have you looked into Paradigm Life Bank on Yourself system yet? No down payment needed!! 100% financing!!! Take the little class at Paradigm Life and see what you think of the system.
4 slabs and a streak of sawdust.
Make tomato stakes out of them
What a wonderful job you do! I'm so impressed! God bless you all!
Not to mention clearing the forest floor of fuel in the event of a fire ! Like us in California we're cleaning and chipping tons of wood...love your videos😊
I like that new hat!
Its a beenie... but yes it look's good on her .😊
Enjoyed your mountain climbing short, you are all looking well including your Mother Teri in the oil change video.Take care and continue to enjoy life,(good things starting happen in Australia personally on major front),cheers.
You know I’m really on a roll when I am now watching this video a second time and got a second good idea! Since we’re talking about architectural features here, how bout full, half and quarter pre debarked columns. I would think if they were polished a little with a disc sander, people would snap them up!
You say what you want to say as many times as you want. Great video!
Leaving wood behind in the woods in not waste. Some dead wood in the woods is very good for the woods. Decaying wood forms an ecosystem on itself and that keeps the forests healthy.
Plentyyyy of wood is left to provide an ecosystem without leaving the forest a mess
Waste not, want not! As my Nana used to say. Life can't be all big custom orders. Well done team.
Much respect.
I don’t know why you don’t like to wear sock caps, it brings out your natural beauty. 🤠
Cool seeing the machine zoomed out, interesting to see it turning the wood over as you do each side.
Like the binnie, enjoy the milling process
The first thing I noticed is that you were wearing a hat. It looks good
I really like that you folks are doing your best not to waste the lumber resources. Probably it's not profitable, but it's important.
Burrrrr...🥶
Emerald... You're blowing smoke today... Gott'a be cold there...
Keep warm my dear....
Any piece of lumber puts money in your pocket and for sure ensures that they weren't cut down in vain
The way you operate on those little handlebars is awesome!
I'm glad to see you tie back the hair.
Please send some of the logs to Texas. I see bowls, pepper mills, and other turned art projects.
Great Videos! I do have some suggestions, learned the hard way, of course. 1. Wear leather gloves; I have a lot of hand injuries over the decades. About the time you run a sliver through your hand, you will agree, better to wear gloves. 2. Lower back support belt; purchased at any Walmart or Amazon. The type that velcro latches up front. You will thank me in your 60's, or sooner! 3. Eye protection: Sooner or later, you will run the saw into a spike or other item the tree grew around and your saw blade will come apart or other flying debris will slap you on the noggin. In 1987, I had an eye injury that required 6 hours of surgery to put back together. It was a horrible experience and still makes me cringe. 4. Knee Pads; Somewhere a long the way, you will take a blow to the knee(s) and your knee cap will be broken and like mine, was shoved about 4 inches higher than where it should be. Again, surgery and 6 weeks of hobbling around and another year before it was back to feeling normal. Safety First Ladies, Safety First!
You two Ladies are a major asset to the family business.
Nothing you can't do, and no one can stop you.
God Bless you all and Merry Christmas.
I've been cleaning up the 'small wood' from a logging trail and seasoning it for hardwood / whitewood bows! So much beautiful wood left over! Maple, Hickory, Black walnut, Black Cherry, Beach and more!
Yet another great video, you girls are killing it!!!
Love hearing from Ken, Grandpa, & the rest of the family also.
Much respect to you all... 🙏🏼💜
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
Prima, nachhaltig ist die FORDERUNG der Zeit.
Bob The old sawmill man here again from Minnesota , Emerald ; I am glad to see you utilizing the small logs as we did -- We even developed a market for pine 3X3X8' they were used for roof cross boards (nailers ) under steel roofs on barns and sheds so when we got done logging an area there was little waste left . Keep up with finding new markets
Purlins
Yes, your idea about not wasting any lumber is a great idea. I know as a musician and a luthier (I build ukuleles). I would like to purchase lumber like the small ones you are cutting! They would help out a lot. Great idea and keep up the great job you are doing!
Working girl hands. Great!!
Logging my 78 acres right now.. trying to talk my logger into dragging tops out for me with hopes I get a little mill soon.. Amish aren't paying to well
Ya'll talk the talk ..
N def walk the walk..
No tree goes to...
waste!!
👍🐺🧙♂️🦊👍
This is sooo cool! Its why I like your business and your family so much! Being able to have almost no wast is amazing! Then I’m sure those small cants you sell as fire wood so win win. You guys rock!
hello lumber capital log yard & it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy
I think I remember an earlier video where you guys talked about the lower margin of profitability of top lumber. Nice to see a follow-up. Better sound after the intro music. Warm weather to the west of you guys. 50's here for a while. Hope you guys get some.
I’m so grateful I found this exquisite and inspiring channel, thank you LCLY!!!
The local mill Here in West Wales also sells the off cuts from (bark edges) they are not expensive, but do a good business in them, people use them to hide Bins or put around ugly concrete intrusions in their garden. they are not structural material more aesthetic .They are called TAFLU.. its Welsh for discarded, or rejects
Top log is some of the best material , the knots are live. The material has less stress in it that you some times get in the lower part of the tree , this results in less splitting and cracking as well as the boards staying a lot straighter before and after machining. i have worked with swedish sawmills for years developing usage of these small section sizes.
I saw a bunch of logs from my 84 year old fathers “pulp wood pile”. My father is often surprised what I get from a “junk” log in his view.
Those beanies are cool may have to get one .❤
Nice to see you are using the "scrap wood" for something worthwhile instead of leaving it to rot back into the ground where the tannins in it would reduce the grounds productivity.
Helth and Happy holydays to You , your family , And freinds
nice beenie!
Using all logs is a good idea.
Very nice work ladies I would make one recommendation Safety Glasses please.
Good morning to you and your family, Merry Christmas
When are the toques coming out for the Canadian viewers ? Best of the season to the family
That would be "tuques", not "toques"...
It does look a little frosty out there, Beenie's keep the ears warm too, will have to check out your store. Every time I go out to my neighbors ceder mill I want to go to work for him. He ships Port Orford Ceder everywhere. The loggers here are only interested in Doug Fir replanting as they go, our forests are well managed for sure. Will check the store for cool stuff.
I much liked the shot of you moving the levers. I wish that you would show it again and tell exactly what you are doing.
Keep working, good luck.
As far as I know, lumber made from dead wood is not as reliable as from fresh wood, but in some cases it can be used in a construction that do not carry a large load. Nice hat. And someone still don't wear a hat even under the weak winter sun 🙂. (Hi from Belarus. Harry Davidson)
Hi, waste not, want not has always worked for me. Although with a manufacturing business its kind of a balancing act. Thanks for the video. 🙂
Thanks beautiful ladies
