I strutted like a rooster while watching the video, all the way to atwoods and picked up the t8 ballest bypass led lamps. Then I strutted to the music all the way back to my garage where I strutted while I bypassed the ballast and installed the new bulbs. Then I strutted in to show my wife who also heard the music and saw the lights working along with my strutting, and jumped my bones!! Thanks for...well everything!!
Well along with learning how to install ballast bypass tubes, you also learned a new dance move lol. I know what your saying why? Why do we need disco music to learn how to install light tubes? And the robot voice has me feeling a little nervous right now
Look I am an Electrician, different manufacturers require the feed and the neutral in different locations. While this manufacturer uses the same tombstone for both the Neutral and the hot others do not. some require the hot wire on one end of the tube and the neutral on the other, Everyone should check to make sure which LED tube they use and it's associated wiring. this is not a blanket how to on all LED retrofits. Good luck in your conversions, they are well worth it in the end no matter which you choose!
cary lamari thanks man I'm an electrician trained old school by the book. I like watching these videos gives me an idea of what I'll be troubleshooting sooner or later. We've come a long way since I started the trade but 1 thing has remained the same, power has no conscience! good to see another electrician trying to give proper information, although I'd rather most people have an electrician do the electrical work no matter how small of repair or install, just to many code issues, product mods., applications, blah blah..
I like these LED conversions, I just wish the tomb stones were more hearty, they can break if a lay person installs the tubes and with these 110 v at the tombstone someone could get hurt. They really should have a fuse at the connection of the fixture in order to provide a second protection for service. But hey that may be the next revision of our code lol
Totally - the tombstones have to be the shunted type for this to work though - its worth marking on the fixture that it requires single ended tubes also.
@@shanecrozier9196 They have to be the shunted type? I read that T8 LEDs for direct-wire (ballast bypass) were supposed to be used with non-shunted tombstones. (insights.regencylighting.com/shunted-vs.-non-shunted-sockets-tombstones-lampholders)
I didn’t know Daft Punk was doing instructional videos. I used glow sticks to light my work area and tried to time my wire splicing to the beat drop, like in the video. Not sure I hit it. Nice job Robots!
Before attempting to dismantling any light fitting to access internal fitting of fluorescent to change to L.E.D. JUST TAKE OUT THE STARTERS that are usually on the sides at either end of the unit.Simply push and twist anti clockwise.Replace old tubes with new l e d tubes .Switch on at light switch and Hey Presto ! Job done.
This video is for single ended LEDs with the Line (L) and Neutral (N) pins on one end. You have to make sure the tombstones on both ends are non-shunted (the two inner connectors are electrically separate) or you'll have a short circuit. Double ended LEDs have the Line (L) on one end and Neutral (N) on the other.
Ullo I think is correct I also saw multiple white wires power neutral jumpers...., but the problem I saw is the yellow wires you connected to the power (load line) are on the opposite side of the tombstone how did this come on or work ?? unless the starled lights don't care which pin is the load......
The LED is either single pin hot or double pin hot and neutral. Could not finish video. I clicked this link to be instructed about swapping florescent to led. Trying to focus on the instructions while tuning out the "music" proved to be too much. There are other videos to try.
Dear sir, congratulations on the video. I have LGT8258B Preheating start electronic ballast. So far it has worked with 2 T8 2x58W neon tubes - without starter. Suddenly he started flashing and after 5/10 seconds he was dead. I bought 2 V-TAC LED tubes mod. VT-1577.T8.G13.20W I cut off the power supply on the requested side, after installing nothing to do they don't work. To see if the ballast is working, what voltage or current should I find in the output terminal block that powers the tubes? Thank you, thank you very much. Can you help me, thanks.
How does this work when you didn't connect the black wire? My lamp has yellow wires on one end and blue & red wires on the other end. Black to blue & red, white to yellow are tge instructions. .
OK, the music was somewhat distracting...but I never heard if they were one-sided or two-sided bulbs and whether the tombstones were shunted or non-shunted. Would that be more confusing? No, it would enable me to understand if I needed one-sided or two-sided bulbs. The way these were hooked up I'm assuming two-sided and non-shunted...but, without that info I could be wrong.
Ima Tumor no wires on the other side, just leave them for support. on the tubea it will say L and N insert it where the wires are connected to the tombstones
It depends on the type. There are some like that, known as "drop-in replacement" = "ballast compatible" = "plug and play" = "universal." Those you use with the ballast. You lose some energy savings. This video is for another kind, "retrofit" LED tubes. The man I talked to at the big box store didn't know much -- I had to do my own research.
Ok so you cut the first wire which was white. You then cut another pair of white wires. Are there two sets of white wires coming from that end you are working on?
that's the weird thing. You think the home wiring would be black and white. black=live. white=neutral. But here they dont do anything with the black it seems. Since LEDs only need to be wired on one side this video only shows what they did to the wires on one side. What's on the other side? At least show it tidying up IF they tidied up the side they werent using. Not very clear video.
A - kill the music, and B - position the camera on the opposite end so that the viewer can see what the guy's doing! Other than this, hey - thanks for the video?
Got to 1.46 then dumped the video because of the damn music, If you're going to narrate then narrate, if you're going o play music then play music, don't do both it spoils the vid!!!!!
You lost me at the point of connecting to power. Should there be a black wire involved? You have two white wires. In the video the connections to power seems blocked by hands or not clear. Yes I am a complete layman.
This is not detailed enough. Plus the music is distracting. You say to identify whichever wires. What methods would someone take to identify the different wires.
This could be a good video if not for the pounding, intrusive music. Please consider that it adds no instructional value and distracts terribly. If you had a group of students gathered around, would you crank up techno music to the same volume as your voice to compete with you while you're talking? Your presentation is adequate without adding noise. Maybe just one man's opinion. Thanks.
exactly how are you supposed to hear the instructions with loud annoying music in the back ground that if turned down you do not have any instructions ? Why the HELL do people think adding annoying sound tracks are in any way a positive thing?
Why do people do bypass videos ? no one EVER goes back to ballast after going LED and leaving the ballast in only makes the chance if someone else goes in in the future they will do something stupid. take and extra 4 seconds remove the ballast .. they are worth 1 dollar a pound at scrap yard so that will pay for your extra 4 seconds of labor.
I watched your video as it was the first one recommended and wired my fixture as you showed called shunted only to open my bulbs I purchased was for a non-shunted configuration *hot and neutral on one ended. I'm finding out it's harder to find shunted style bulbs on the market so your worthless video is only good if you purchase StarLED bulbs!
It depends on one needs but LED tubes that are ballast compatible are simpler and I have fluorescent lights with ballast that are over 20 years old that have not burned out yet running LED tubes with no issues.

That 80s techno music really improved the enjoyment of this instructional video! (said no one ever)
Yeah, cut the disco music so we can concentrate on what's being said!
I came here to rewire my fixture and left learning a new dance move🤣
Electric n disco 💃 lessons at same time 😂

Why keep the old ballast in the housing??

Would have been nice to be able to understand what he was saying instead of having to struggle through the music
Thanks for a video that made this as clear as mud. But hey at least my nerves are shot from the stupid music 😊

Imagine a DJ playing this video at the club with commentary and everything.
Lmao
Lol
Please eliminate irritating music!!!
Wow, I feel like I need a vodka / redbull to watch this video. I'm ready for the club now...
Could not finish video. I clicked this link to be instructed about swapping florescent to led. Trying to focus on the instructions while tuning out the "music" proved to be too much. There are other videos to try.
I need to do this on a chain of lights. How would I do that?
Dear sir, congratulations on the video. I have LGT8258B Preheating start electronic ballast. So far it has worked with 2 T8 2x58W neon tubes - without starter. Wht do you do to the other side of the fixture? What happens to those wires ?
Not sure what I am missing but what do you do with the wires from the tombstones on the other side of the fixture?
just clip the wires from the ballast.
Great information thanks: I’m curious will this trick work for the standard flouriscent tubes too👍
Standard fluorescent tubes require the ballast .
OK, the music was somewhat distracting...but I never heard if they were one-sided or two-sided bulbs and whether the tombstones were shunted or non-shunted. Would that be more confusing? More than "somewhat" distracting. Glad to see I wasn't the only one who didn't like it.
Hard to listen and comprehend with that music...
What about the opposite end of the fixture? What goes on with all those wires?
Ima Tumor no wires on the other side, just leave them for support. on the tubea it will say L and N insert it where the wires are connected to the tombstones
I asked to the man at supply store. He said the LED light bulbs this kind come ready to just replace them using the existing ballasts.
It depends on the type. There are some like that, known as "drop-in replacement" = "ballast compatible" = "plug and play" = "universal." Those you use with the ballast. You lose some energy savings. s the aim here efficacy or some grow light application......which I seek to self-educate meself? ty
LED Lamps are much more energy efficient - re-tubing the fixtures can make a big difference to the electricity bills.
why do not have black hot line input? I just see two white wire.
Can you retrofit any LED bulb or does it have to be to bypass bulbs only?
Ok so you cut the first wire which was white. You then cut another pair of white wires. Are there two sets of white wires coming from that end you are working on?

the fixture demonstrated has a plug-in cord for supplying the power, thus the two white wires.
Does this bypass create energy savings?
yes
A - kill the music, and B - position the camera on the opposite end so that the viewer can see what the guy's doing! Other than this, hey - thanks for the video?
Would you rewire it the same for single pin led lights? I want to convert all my 8ft t12 fluorescents to led but the fixtures are single pin.
My LED tube does not have a label indicating the power side.
How about the tombstones, shunted or non shunted: very important men
This method of wiring is only for 'single ended' LED's with non-shunted tombstones. The method is different for 'double ended' LED's.
gosh great info, sad you felt the need for such goofy music!!!!!
Thank You, helpful to many. However, constructive criticism, ditch the music.
You didn’t do the hot wire black
I didn't read the rest of the reviews, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the music really added to the value of this video.
Got to 1.46 then dumped the video because of the damn music, If you're going to narrate then narrate, if you're going o play music then play music, don't do both it spoils the vid!!!!!

Stopped watching because of the music!!!
Thanks
I came here for the sweet tunes and some dude keeps talking over the music! Shhhhhh please some of us are trying to get our groove on
i dig the music!!
Those 3 little wires should not be joined with a red wire nut. It is too big to make a good connection.
Holy cow, ditch the music and you'd have a great tutorial. The music has no business on this video.
Luckily, the tombstones were non-shunted. I buy LED tubes that are ballast compatible for the ease of plug and play.
Sorry but it's very difficult to rewire my light fixture while watching video and doing Saturday night fever dance to the music at the same time
A schematic of the wiring change would be more clear instructions
what is that music? I like it

The guys hands are in the way of seeing what he is doing. Poor camera angle.
confusing with the wiring. something is not right

Why music? For the love of God just someone make a 2 minute video to show me how to do this!!!!!!
Don't like the music/noise as background to a narrative video.

for goodness sakes, the music?
