I got my 2012 S550 for $15,000 with 63,000 miles on it. Absolute beast of a car, love it so much.

You’ll spend at least $1,000 on these a year or more on maintenance costs a year. Catastrophic failures of anything are almost unheard of. Very reliable car and packs a heck of a punch. I’m 18 and bought one of these and can afford the maintenance costs. If I can you certainly can too. It’s not owning a Toyota by any means, but you’re getting what you pay for by all means. Go buy a new Corolla and you’re getting a 4 cyl econobox for $30k-$40k or buy these and spend $20k or less for average mileage ones. It’ll be about 5 years after owning this car or even more before maintenance costs match the price of a new Corolla to drive a car that had a sticker price of well over $100k when it was new. For me it’s a no brainer and it’s been working awesome for me. I get in it and never worry about it breaking on a normal commute or long trip to visit relatives.

Air matic to replace is 5k...The computer which goes out on every Mercedes after 100k costs 2700. Tires and oil change will run you 1.5k. You add that up and you are almost at the 1/2 price for a Corolla right there. The AC and air conditioned seats will also need fixing after 100k for about another 3k. There is a reason the car went from 100k+ to under 20k...

@@pete64041 Yeah of course if you go to a dealer, you gonna get raped. An indie shop will be 1/3 those prices so its still a bargain and you'll get a better service overall.

@@pete64041 I bought one of these during the pandemic for 9500 with a salvage title. At 127k miles. And spent about 5k in repairs the first years without including labor rates! The cars at the shop for the rear shocks and needs a transmission:(. The mechanic shop is currently looking for a refurbished transmission. I’m deabating wether I should repair the car after so much work put into it or letting it go as is. The problem is once you drive these cars it’s hard to go back. I got a second car to drive daily because I couldn’t keep up with the headache! Obviously I should of did my homework on these cars and should bought one with one owner and garage kept with better low mileage!

I have driven 2007 S500 which is prefacelift of W221 it has NA 5.5 V8 which I prefer instead of facelifted 4.7biturbo V8, that 5.5 sounds a bit better, just sound incredible and it's smooth and powerful,it's amazing to drive, and I think the W221 sounds better with only engine (muffled exhaust) instead of straightpipe

Personally I love it no issues it’s a fast car it’s heavy, only thing that you’re gonna have to worry about is filling that gas tank up alot and with the highest octane that you can ( it will tell you in the gas tank what is recommended) personally in my area the highest octane that is made for that car is from Sunoco and it’s called ultra .. so you’re going to be paying more in gas for sure

“If things were to go wrong it might be more expensive than your base Toyota Camry….” Dude, you have no idea. Just one of the ABC suspension shocks will cost over $2k with labor. These fail on every Merc and there are 4 of them! Just maintenance like oil service will be several hundred dollars and you can’t do it by yourself, in your garage, it requires a service tablet and a pump that sucks the oil out of the engine. Labor will run $200+ and $100+ for a German specialty independent.

Corolla will still be around for the next 20 years tho...A 2012 will not...So factor in you will need another car and the value keeps getting worse and worse outside of the much more expensive repairs. There is a reason so many people lease Mercedes/BMW, they pass the headaches on to the people who can't really afford these cars, but want to look "rich"
