    Hardware presets in Lié can not only be used with hardware synths, but are also useful to control any instrument that can't be hosted in Lié, but accepts MIDI CCs. We show how to prepare Touché for standalone usage with a library from Orchestral Tools in Kontakt by creating a hardware preset that sends suitable MIDI CCs.

      Hi,
      thanks for your question! Touché SE doesn't support hardware presets, but it can still send up to 4 MIDI CCs + pitch bend.
      The setup process shown in the video, with having a hardware preset in Lié and Kontakt open in parallel, and re-routing MIDI wouldn't work.
      But if you stick to the same slot settings I showed in this video, and apply them to the so-called 'MIDI Setup' of Touché SE, you will end up with your SE sending exactly the same CCs as the flagship Touché would do. The MIDI Setup of the SE is a kind of stripped down version of a hardware preset, since it only has 4 CCs + pitchbend. It defines the MIDI CCs being sent by Touché SE when in standalone mode. You can access it in Líé via Menu -> MIDI Setup.
      Please note that you will only have one sole such MIDI setup loaded, as soon as Touché SE enters standalone mode. You can't switch through 24 real hardware presets as is the case with the classic Touché. You are limited to the one that is currently configured in the internal memory of your SE.
      I hope this information was helpful to you.
      Best,
      Chris

    What is with all the negativity and general rudeness in the comments? Belive me, I'm having a fair share of software issues with it but so many people are acting like it should just magically work and pretty frankly with an instrument this complex its going to take some setting up. Not only that but most of the questions I see being quite rudely asked are already answered in this extremely well put together tutorial series and FAQ. Although I have my qualms with this device, I really appreciate your guys team for your kind responses, and constant support. Please keep going with these wonderful projects!

    Great tutorial! When will be an ipad lie version
    available? Simple midi routing on ipad would be enough. Does Touche respond to midilearn function of ipad synths (eg. korg module, isem, moog d, galileo, syntronic ik multimedia etc.)? I would like to use Touche Se on live gig with ipad as a pitchbend/modulation/cutoff/resonance and other cc’s. I do not have pitchbend/modulation on my keyboard and I want to replace it with Touche Se and ipad sounds. Is it possible? Thanks for your great job and innovation.

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, thanks a lot for your comment!
      An iPad version of Lié is not planned for the time being. However, since Touché and Touché SE send regular MIDI CC, the MIDI Learn functions of iPad synths will react just fine. If the iPad app expects a certain CC for a certain parameter, you could still change the hardware preset of Touché or the MIDI setup of Touché SE (e.g. set CC1 for modulation wheel ).
      Important hint when MIDI learning CCs: Since Touché (SE) is very sensitive, it will probably send CCs on multiple axes when pushing it. it can be a bit tedious when your app expects a single CC to learn the parameter.
      Decrease the Touché sensitivity to the minimum by turning the Encoder counter-clockwise, to have a higher probability to catch the correct CC. If you can manually select this in the app, it's CC16 for Bottom, CC17 for Top, CC18 for Left and CC19 for Right.

    So you’ll have to do this setup for every instrument preset? Or is a way to set this asa standard for all my Kontakt/Hardware synth uses?
    Assuming I want the same level of parameters as show here

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Alexandra, if your synths all expect the same CC messages, then you can create a setup that more or less fits them all. Different manufacturers however tend to offer a different set of features and controls, and defined a different set of CC messages that steer them. Therefore, a one-fits-all solution is rarely feasable, although simple stuff like mapping the modulation CC1 to one pressure axis, and activating pitch bend should work in nearly every case.
      When sticking to the products of one manufacturer though, you can get quite a good compatibility with just one Touché hardware preset. Precondition is that the manufacturer uses the same design logic across multiple instruments.

    Is it possible to use this with your feet instead of hand, i.e. as a foot pedal?

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We don't recommend using your feet to control Touché. Although the unit itself is pretty durable, there are several reasons for this
      - the touch-plate is only held magnetically and might be displaced when stepping on it
      - the mechanism is meant to already move when only slight pressure is applied. This is true for lateral movements as well. Even though you can adjust the stiffness of the lateral movement, it will easily give way to the weight that is expected when you step on it.
      - the Touché's sensors are very reactive, so that you probably won't be able to get the most out of it, unless you are foot painter ;)
      That doesn't mean that you theoretically couldn't get great results if you take care, perhaps sitting and using it without your shoes on, but we unfortunately can't offer support for a Touché that has been regularly stepped upon, taking into account the normal beatings and dirt that a guitarists stomp box rig has to swallow. :)

      For Logic's internal instruments, it's a bit tricky. Since these are offered as AU only, Lié can't host them, you need to use the MIDI mapping routine of Logic Pro instead.
      To be clear: Most 3rd party soft synths work just fine in Lié in Logic, it's just that Apple doesn't offer a VST format version of their internal instruments: expressivee.happyfox.com/kb/article/121-setting-up-touchli-in-logic-pro-x

    I wish you guys would team up with the folks at Orchestral Tools (and Spitfire Audio) in order to offer better integration of Touché ... The benefits of your controller for bringing out the best in orchestral libraries are obvious and something film scorers / mock-up composers have been dreaming about for ages. However, the setup process you've just taken us through here is a real turn-off, and ultimately a no-go for me ... After having spent the entire morning considering either the Touché or Touché-SE for precisely this usage that's a huge disappointment :(

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Jean-Michel, thanks for your suggestion. Please be aware that the scenario we showcase here is a bit over-the-top (deliberately) to showcase the maximum possibilities. All this CC changing is not necessary normally.
      For your everyday workflow, you would just play one sound in one track. If you would like to use one axis as CC1 mod wheel and another as CC7 volume, assign this to a slot in Lié, save it to the device, and you are good to go for any library that reacts to these MIDI CCs.
      However, we agree that a direct integration would be a cool thing to have. We are working on something, but I can't tell more for the time being.
