The balance of Velvet's weapon is that it can only use a photograph to make a weapon once; necessitating her to both take pictures constantly, and also be a really good hand to hand fighter.
Seems it might be that Velvets weapons have a VERY short lifespan as well. Like maybe as short as 20 or 30 seconds each. So thats why she has to "Build up" so many in order to be effective. Head Cannon on my part.
Her weapon also uses up Hard Light Dust for each copy, which is pretty expensive. There is a reason Coco didn't want her using it when things weren't dire.
Tbh they need to buff that semblance of hers i feel like with the current stuff and other semblances we seen velvet should be able to keep them forever once she takes a photo i mean it won't make her so unbeatable op her weapon mastery is limited compared to one person who has used the weapon their entire life
And yeah, Velvet's semblance let's her perfectly mimic the fighting styles of people she has observed, and her weapon converts the pictures she takes into hard light copies of their weapons that last for a few strikes before they dissipate.
@@sparknazo on one hand, The pandemic has slowed productions a lot for the show. On the other hand Volume 9 was being made directly after they finished on Volume 8. So I guess we'll have to see if the extra time makes up for the slowed production time.

Velvet’s semblance is Photographic Reflexes. She can perfectly imitate anyone’s fighting style she watches(not other semblances). Her weapon is the box she carries around and her camera. She takes pictures of weapons with her camera and then the box creates copies of them made out of Hard Light dust. If you remember back to Volume 2’s finale when Coco told Velvet not to waste “it”, the “it” she was referring to was the Hard Light dust, which is hard to come by and very expensive.
People always give Jaune to much stick for looking away, but in all respect to him, if someone you care about is screaming all of a sudden behind you, of course your gonna look at them to see if their ok
Jaune gave himself the most slack, if you check and think about it, any time Jaune has the ability to in future seasons he takes a hit or shields someone else. This moment had a bigger impact on him than given credit for.
Roman's speech really humanised him for me. Always loved his character, the sarcastic asshole psychopath, but hearing him say he essentially didn't have a choice and then get eaten two seconds later was really chilling. It was a really great scene. He's literally trying to beat the naivete and virtue out of her the way he feels like the world beat it out of him. Do you hear the tone in his voice about how the beacon kids are going to end up dead, "like every other huntsman does?" He's not talking in a tone about strangers. What really makes him a tragic villain is that he asserts a conviction that he lies, cheats, and steals because that's the only way to stay alive - and then gets eaten immediately. There's an Aesop's fable there somewhere, about how no matter what you stoop to doing you're still going to end up dead - and most likely not on your own terms. Cowards dead a thousand times - and sometimes it doesn't even buy them any more time. "like every other huntsman does!" That line broke my heart, he's not talking in a tone that suggests strangers. He's taking about his friends. His team. Hell, his family. Tempus fugit, momento mori, Romeo. I honestly love Roman, I always assumed that he started out as a huntsman, and then lost his team at some point and quit. That is, to me, what his speech before he died was about.
Ozpin telling Pyrrha that she'll only get in the way is great. She's probably the best fighter we've seen and he shrugs her off like she a regular person.
I'm pretty sure he didn't meant it like that; he was ready to give his all and maybe die. Fighting a maiden and taking care of his student was going to make everything more difficult.
Velvet powers are more explain in the books that focuses on her team after the events of volume 3. Velvet semblance is called Photographic Memory. She is able to mimic others movements and fighting styles but not their semblances. Her weapon(the camera and the case) uses hard light dust(weiss uses it for shielding) to replicate weapons and needs an image of the weapons and as a result the image gets erase which is why they dont last long. Velvet is pretty agile and great at martial arts mixed with all her abilities and weaponry she is basically a very adaptable fighter. The micmic and camera lets her replictae dust related stuff that doesnt involve mixong it with a semblance.
@@mojoofj0j024 everything after 4 Haven't seen 8 yet but they pretty much backed the story into a corner, going to have to deus ex machina to get out of it.

Fun Facts Fact 1: Most of the moves that Velvet performs with everyone's weapons are taken directly from each weapon's first appearance. Fact 2: The fight between Neo and Ruby was partially Monty Oum's work. Fact 3: When Adam and Yang attack each other, the animations used are the finishing move from the "Black" Trailer and the finishing move from the "Yellow" Trailer.
Velvet takes pictures of weapons so she can recreate them artificially using an uncommon and expensive dust, the hard-light dust. That, in concordance with her Semblance, Photographic Memory which lets her learn the combat style of anyone with seeing them fight only once makes her capable of replicate any huntsman or huntress in the world with nothing more than taking a picture and having watched them in battle at any moment of her life.
Know it's a long shot but is there any possibility ya'll will react to Monty's Dead Fantasy series (36 minutes whole series)? It's a bit dated graphically but fits well with the group you have reacting and shows a lot of his unique fight choreography.
Was waiting for their reaction to Yang getting amputated, and was not disappointed, it's crazy that some reactors don't realize that Yang lost her arm until Ruby sees her in the next episode, like they have the shot were her arm clearly separates, and then their is a slow motion shot where her body is falling, you clearly see a stump, and yellow blood, and they're like "What, she lost her arm!?" So much crazy shit happens in this episode.
Velvet's gear uses images of weapons runs it through some kind of program to create a 3D model and then creates a life size version of it with hard light dust. The hard light copy only lasts for a few hits which is why Velvet has to stock pile a ton of pictures for longer fights. The reason why she chose to use this gear as her weapon is because her semblance allows her to copy someones fighting style just by having seen them. That makes her use the hard light copies well. It's like becoming a master with a specific weapon for the short time that you have it before switching to the next, if you watch the right ppl before hand that is. The only thing that really holds her back when using her hard light copies is that she can't mimic other ppls semblances. So if they use their semblance a lot with their weapon to do specific moves or attacks Velvet can't copy that.
Velvet has a hard light camera that uses dust to print the weapons she photographs. Her semblance gives her photographic memory allowing her to remember how to use every weapon she sees. She can't copy semblances.
So not only does Velvet's weapon create hard light copies of other people's weapons, her semblance allows her to perfectly copy the movements of a fighter she's seen. Basically, Velvet's weapon and semblance are one of the few - if not the only - combination in the show that fit perfectly with one another.
Velvet can only use every picture once for a short period of time, which is why she keeps making pictures :) its also kinda dark if u think about it, she used penny’s weapon for the last time since she can never make the picture again. Also im so happy you guys are enjoying ironwood, he is so fucking amazing ❤️❤️ hope you will continue to enjoy his character :D
being all caught up with RWBY all i can say is expect much more greater things down the lane, loved the reactions as always can't wait to go through the series over again reacting to you guys
Professor Ozpin = Wizard of Oz Glynda Goodwitch = Good Witch of the North Ironwood = The Tin Man Qrow = Scarecrow Leo Lionheart = Cowardly Lion Cinder Fall = Cinderella Roman Torchwick = Romeo Candlewick (Pinocchio novel) Mercury Black = Hermes/Mercury Emerald = Aladdin Neo = Looks like an ice cream sandwich... Ruby Rose = Red Riding Hood Yang Xiao Long = Goldilocks Weiss Schnee = Snow White Blake Belladonna = Beauty Adam Taurus = Beast Jaune Arc = Joan of Arc Nora Valkyrie = Thor Pyrrha Nikos = Achilles Lie Ren = Fa Mulan Penny = Pinocchio etc...
Velvet's semblance is the ability to copy other people's fighting styles. But without the correct weapon, the fighting style wouldn't be much use, so she uses something called Hardlight Dust (which is very expensive) to make physical copies of other people's weapons.
18:20 "I hope you grabbed her hand." ...I'm actually not sure, if this is the case it's the first time I've noticed it, but if you look near the bottom of the screen *while* Adam is killing the Creep, I _think_ the little pale shape above the pile of rubble going off the bottom edge of the screen is her arm. Or it could just be a reflection of fire on stone.
Cinder Fall now has the full power of the Fall Maiden, just as she planned. That's 1 down and 3 to go. Cinder truly played everyone throughout the course of these first 3 Volumes; her "grand masterplan" (as Roman so eloquently put it) worked out perfectly at pretty much every turn. From her skill at planning and manipulation alone, you can get a sense of why people like Roman, Neo and Adam, truly felt that there was no other option but to join her. _"Like it or not, the people that hired me are going to change the world! You can't stop 'em, I can't stop 'em! You know the old saying: 'If you can't beat 'em...'"_
Did anyone else feel like Roman was speaking from personal experience during his rant? He seemed particularly bitter when talking about the "real world" and what he thinks is the fate of every hunter. It doesn't sound like he's ranting to throw Ruby off, he's ranting because he's had it with the world. It could be that Ruby reminds Roman of himself as a child and the's actually trying to teach her a lesson about the real world. I think Roman just wanted her to know the truth about the world. His demise proves how cruel the world is, and if you let yourself be vulnerable the world will hurt you. Spoiler for current season I’m kind of hoping that neo will join Ruby and will get a cool backstory of her meeting torchwick and maybe some answers from your question about the real world
Yeah, I forgot how fucking intense this episode was. It's always fun watching people's first reaction to THIS episode in particular. I remember when it first came out back in 2016 (FUCK I feel old) and damn it sure made an impact. I'm looking forward to how you'll react to the finale... Do you believe in destiny?
“I need to know why the Moon’s Broken.....” Me (Having just binged the whole series from beginning to end for the first time):........Goddammit........🤣🤣🤣
Also, this was the volume I think Lindsay Jones became a legit voice actor. Some of the lines she delivers in these last few episodes of Vol 3 always gives me chills. Especially next episode when she wakes up in bed. That scene when she's telling Qrow what she last remembers is an absolutely chilling performance.
Right, just cause you keep saying that Purah has some kind of dark magic, I would like to explain that Pyrah's semblance is the manipulation of magnetism. The black aura around objects is just how we are shown that she is using her semblance.
I remember watching it when this first aired, your reaction is all too familiar. This episode is interesting from a narrative standpoint; this was where the whole innocent school setting falls apart, and aspects established early in the narrative reach their conclusion. Ruby has a final showdown with Torchwick, who throughout the first three volumes has been her primary enemy. But he doesn't romanticize what their dynamic is; his "this is the _real_ world" speech shows a far more cynical side; he knows this goes way beyond a criminal like him, and he really is just trying to survive. And note that Ruby wasn't the one to take down her villain; despite all the buildup, he's unceremoniously killed. He's nothing, in the end. Weiss has one of her best scenes in the series, where she overcomes her limits for the first time with that summon. But more importantly, she does it to protect Velvet, a _faunus._ Compare this to how she was at the end of Volume 1. Getting past her previous prejudices has opened up new possibilities for her. Blake vows that she wouldn't run again, but is forced to. Adam takes all of her idealism and throws it back in her face; it's impossible to gain peace and equality when there are people - and in this case, with more power and better connections - actively working against you. And Yang... Well, as her fights with Neo and in the tournament have repeatedly demonstrated, all that power doesn't mean much if it's not used tactically. It doesn't matter how angry she is; Yang charged straight at Adam, a highly-trained swordsman who'd deliberately goaded her into attacking and was ready. She made a huge mistake, and it's cost her dearly. Lastly, Ironwood's robotic body has been foreshadowed as early as his first scene in Volume 2. That closeup of him taking the coffee mug was no accident; it was to point out that only one his hands was gloved, thus indicating that he had a prosthetic. It wasn't a question of if parts of his body were mechanical, but _how much._

I honestly love Roman, I always assumed that he started out as a huntsman, and then lost his team at some point and quit. That is, to me, what his speech before he died was about.
As cool as that sounds, it's highly unlikely, given that he never unlocked his Semblance and thus was most likely never a Huntsman.
there's a few RWBY books out, and the most recent one, Roman Holiday, covers Neo and Roman's backstory
@@Patrick-jd1ku well it covers Neo’s backstory, we just get how Roman became the most wanted criminal in Vale, and how they met
Ozpin telling Pyrrha that she'll only get in the way is great. She's probably the best fighter we've seen and he shrugs her off like she a regular person.
Well that, and Ozpin probably can't go all out if he has to worry about someone else.
I'm pretty sure he didn't meant it like that; he was ready to give his all and maybe die. Fighting a maiden and taking care of his student was going to make everything more difficult.
@@Koda89 Yea that's obviously why he said it. That's my point.
Velvet is what happens if Taskmaster got his hands on a Green Lantern ring...
I don't think there could have been a more perfect comparison.

Like when I watch them the first time the hype was there so I was just like "holy shit yo this is lit" but if you compare them to some earlier fights it just seems so bad
I remember when I watch the regalia fan made trailer I was like "how in the hell is this fan made fight looks so good??? Like it feels so much smoother and better than the actual show!!!"

Pretty much the best way to describe what Velvet can do
OH MY GOD I love how they all jumped at Cinder's entrance! That was great!
You know a villain is great when they can make you jump when they enter the scene.
Velvet's weapon is what creates the weapons she photographs by using dust. Her semblance is that "Photographic Memory" where any fighting style she sees, she can replicate.
Velvet's semblance is she can copy other's physical abilities. She takes photos of weapons and scans them into a hard-light printer.

Fun Facts
Fact 1: Most of the moves that Velvet performs with everyone's weapons are taken directly from each weapon's first appearance.
Fact 2: The fight between Neo and Ruby was partially Monty Oum's work.
Fact 3: When Adam and Yang attack each other, the animations used are the finishing move from the "Black" Trailer and the finishing move from the "Yellow" Trailer.
Sad to see Mikey not here
it still hurts to see Torchwick go out like that
I know! He was the best villain
The coolest thing about Velvet is that she also mimics the movements too not just the weapons
Velvet's weapon/semblance turns the weapons she takes pictures of into holograms that can actually cut through things.
*Velvet
Well, that's what her weapon does. Her semblance lets her copy the fighting style of others.
I think Rana summerized Volume 3 perfectly at 17:16

I forgot how awesome Velvet is
Was waiting for their reaction to Yang getting amputated, and was not disappointed, it's crazy that some reactors don't realize that Yang lost her arm until Ruby sees her in the next episode, like they have the shot were her arm clearly separates, and then their is a slow motion shot where her body is falling, you clearly see a stump, and yellow blood, and they're like "What, she lost her arm!?" So much crazy shit happens in this episode.
She probably built and programmed her weapon (or someone did that for her) in order to fit perfectly with her semblance.
@@noox13 she definitely did built it for herself that’s why it fits so perfectly.

I don't remember when, but someone confirmed that Velvet can only copy weapon fighting not semblances
Velvet has photo graphic memory where she can look at a fighting style of any fighters and she can match them equally

Velvet can only use every picture once for a short period of time, which is why she keeps making pictures :) its also kinda dark if u think about it, she used penny’s weapon for the last time since she can never make the picture again.

Not to mention, in volume 2 he told the White Fang that "Humans are the worst. case in point, me"

Iron wood was based on The Tin Man, each of the headmasters is based on someone from the wizard of Oz
