I saw him in Seattle in 99 or 2000, Bauhause on Capitol Hill. He was playing across the table from all of us. Maybe 60-80 people in attendance, full house! Still My Main inspiration to become a DJ. All hail the greatest composer of our time.

My late sister hooked me onto Tobin's music back when I was a kiddo in the 90's. Still listening to his incredible work, for the both of us.
I’m sorry to hear about your sister, but she sounds like she had a great head on her shoulders. Just out of curiosity, what was the album that she introduced you to him with? And what would you say your favorite is (if you can pick one…)?
@@sheateeley1 Thank you for your kind comment. It’s nice to keep her memory alive. She was as cool as they come. She introduced me to the album Bricolage and the song was Chomp Samba. It was a headfirst dive into Tobin’s sound. It took me an adjustment period but I really fell in love with Supermodified. As 4 Ton Mantis is one of my favorite songs of his. Every album is such an experience. Truly, my favorite artist of sound. What album and song really resonates with you, if you had to choose?
@@arthurshat7793 That’s awesome. And I agree, each album is an experience. I have different sets of memories tied to most of his stuff from Supermodified to ISAM, which is good in a way (although sometimes I wish I could just enjoy those albums without going on a trip down Memory Lane…). ISAM is probably the best example of that… it’s one of my absolute favorites, but it was kind of a weird time in my life when it came out. Not to mention the fact that it’s just a heavy album on its own. Seeing ISAM Live was also one of the weirdest and best nights of my life, and I miss those times… Anyways, Supermodified and Foley Room (particularly “Esther’s”) are probably my go-tos though. I’ve really been enjoying Long Stories lately too. I love that he started releasing stuff that doesn’t sound anything like what he was putting out in the 2000s.
@@sheateeley1 Definitely. Each album to me has a story and each song a message. I can so vividly see art and scenario in his songs. Trying to learn animation for this reason. Man, I hear that. The old stuff brings back tearful memories but it’s a part of me now. ISAM is incredible! I can’t imagine seeing that live! I bet it was otherworldly! It came at a weird moment in my life too. And as beautiful an album as it is, it’s very dark for me. Like you said, heavy. I love Stories! And Figeroa is very special to me, namely Better Run and the latest song he released on it but I forgot it’s name. Man, I could go on all day about Tobin’s work. I feel like I’ve just made a music friend!

But the fact that he also has access to the tools of this age and mastered them. AND his modern understanding of psychology has a huge effect on what comes out of his delicious mind. So no disrespect to the boys of olde.... lol But Amon is right up there with Buddha for me. Enlightenment to the point that it's painful and ugly. Before settling into a morbid beauty of simple truth without bias.

We were going to name our son Amon after him too but then we had two girls! Named then Escher and Astrid.
Amon is one of the best at stimulating abstract states of mind. The lack of words lifts the constraints songs normally impose, letting The Listener choose between what Amon is trying to inspire or use his music as a vessel. I would cut off a toe to smoke a joint and talk shit with Amon Tobin! My favorite muse.
Were you at this show? It felt like us dancing had an influence on the show, but it was so crazy with 4 decks. He could put different sound at you at anytime. It was a blast.
I was at this show, I danced my ass off. So much fun! In person with the sound stage it was amazing in such a small venue.
I have been a fan of Amon Tobin since 1999 almost 20 years and his songs I have heard before always impress me the man is brilliant a true genius.

I was stoked to see him in 2012-ish at an ISAM event. Got to meet Mr. Tobin and introduce him to my cuz who introduced me to AT's music. Was a little surreal to say the least. Helluva live DJ. Nasty, nasty DnB sets. Looking forward to what comes next out of the production studio.
