Though not based on real royal history, this is the Thailand Royal court around the 1950s-1960s. The series is supported by the Thai government as Soft Power -- to promote Thai tourism and Thai culture world wide. As you can see in the opening credits, there's the logo of The Ministry of Commerce. A week ago, FreenBecky released another OST that also supports tourism of Bangkok. It's called Cheevee which means Life.
OMG so glad you made this happen :))) It's such a good story & the way they beautifully stuck to the novel & also added new scenes beyond the novel that brought characters to life
You did well guys! Thank you for reacting to TLP. I read the novel when it’s been announced that it’s FB’s next project and I was really wondering on how they will execute it as it’s setting is in the 1940’s - 1960’s in Thailand. Furthermore, there will be a long-distance relationship between Pin and Anil. It’s going to be hard, but they did it so well and it surpassed every expatiation. The TLP story and character are well written, the casting, cinematography, soundtracks, and direction is well executed. This series is rare and beautiful because aside from FB being casted and the explosive chemistry, it really did justice to the Novel or more so made it better. It's not every day that you will see an adaptation that is better or equal with the book or Novel. Each episode exceeds the previous one as well. It definitely exceeds expectations in all aspects. Anil is witty and smart, she's not afraid to use it as well to get what she wants. Pin is the same but in a reserve kind of way, she can sacrifice everything for the person she loves even if that means it’s herself. She’s also very jealous 😅. Then at 26:00 this is actually the time when Pin is slowly acknowledging and realizing that she feels something for Anil but don't know what it is yet. During 36:18 it's funnier because there's actually this joke in the fandom, the almighty 'Na Kah' of Becbec because it always melts Freen and makes her say yes to anything she asks lol. Anin is very similar to Bec too, and the love scenes and romantic moments are actually not scripted. FB were just briefed on what kind of scenes it will be and they are the ones who did everything else so you will see a lot of similarities between Fb and AnilPin, on how they interact and most of the moments in the series are how FB interacts in real life 🤣🤣🤣. Just to share too, Thailand actually still has a monarchy kind of like Japan, and they are still using the titles and ranks which are used by GAP and TLP. For example, Mom Luang (ML) for Khun Sam or Mom Rajawongse (MR) for Khun Kuea- a person which we will hate in the next few episodes😂, etc. they are the descendants of the royal family but they are not considered as Royals so they have no Royal highnesses title. The highest rank is Anil's family, his older brother is the crown prince and her title is Her Serene Highness. The princess of Thailand actually made a speech that mentioned the influence of Thailand through FreenBecky's GAP and TLP, this series is also sponsored by the minister of Thailand Government. There's actually BTS of TLP and its super funny. You guys should watch it as well. After a few episodes Pin will not be so innocent anymore, she will be learning a lot from Anin hahaha. I like your guesses to the storyline and characters, and appreciation for the beauty of the production - it is really quite a lot to take in but the production from set, costume, music is meticulous and detail. @@Yearinreviewbl yes hahah they have 2 snakes in the set. However they have trouble with it because the snake keeps running away from them instead of going to them😂
In ancient times, Thailand or the Kingdom of Siam was a monarchy. Before it became a constitutional monarchy, in Asia, the king had many wives and they were ranked according to their ranks. This resulted in a large number of dynasties. Each member of the royal family had his own palace. He would accept the daughters of noblemen into his palace. The sons of noblemen would serve in the palace under the affiliation of each member of the royal family or in various ministries. The girls would be taught various academic subjects, including palace etiquette and cooking recipes specific to each palace. Including various arts. My grandfather was a nobleman in the palace and my grandmother was also a lady-in-waiting in the palace, just like the main character in this series. And today, my family still uses the surname given by the king according to my grandfather's noble title. This system was discontinued when the country changed its government to a democracy in 1932. But the king still exists today.😊
@@nestorgrey WOW!! That is such an amazing family history! Thankyou so much for sharing that insight! I love learning things like this - it really opens the story and my understanding ❤️❤️❤️
@@Yearinreviewbl I'm not sure how historically accurate this series is. Because I saw in the comments that the series is set around 1950-60. Because in reality, after 1932, after the change of government, the group that overthrew the king's rule seized the king's and the entire royal family's personal assets. Many royals had to flee abroad, including the former king who had to abdicate and flee to England until he died there. The palace of the royal family was seized by the government. Therefore, the life of the people in the palace definitely could not be like in the series. Accepting the children of nobles into the palace could no longer happen. The people in the palace like in the series will have a different working system from what I mentioned. It will be more like civil servants. Currently called the Royal Palace. Khun Pin in the series will be a traditional lady-in-waiting. In English, it should be called Maid of honor. Which in ancient times was called "dedicated service". The royal family who owned the palace will take care of these people like raising their own children and teach everything necessary to be a high-class woman. Which if it were in the 50-60s, even though the political atmosphere has improved. The oppression of the royal family has eased, but it is impossible for a royal family member to accept a maid since she was a child. However, this is a novel based on some stories from the past.
@@nestorgrey Thankyou SO MUCH for sharing this with me! It definitely helps (especially since we were not even sure if this was based in that time or even a real place!)
@@Yearinreviewbl During the 1950-60s, history was still a turbulent political period in Thailand. The political leaders at that time were still a revolutionary group that hated the monarchy. Almost all the palaces of the royal family were seized. Some were destroyed and turned into national stadiums (this palace used to belong to the sons of former kings). Only the palaces of the king and his sons or important members of the royal family remain. And they are still allowed to have servants. If you know Thai food, you will know that among all Thai food, Thai palace recipes are the most sought after and very difficult to find the real thing. After the royal family had to flee and many palaces were seized, people like Khun Pin, who were ladies-in-waiting, had to leave the palace to earn a living. These people therefore used the knowledge they learned in the palace to earn a living. Therefore, it is the origin of the palace cookbook. If based on the series and it was in the 50s-60s, the owner of the palace must be a son of the king only to have that many servants. But accepting children into the palace was still not possible in this era. Therefore, there is some confusion. But of course, the people and places in the series are definitely fictional. And just a few years after the country's tragic events. In 1946, the king at that time died by gunfire and it is still a mystery to this day. I can't explain more than that.
@@nestorgrey Wow!! there is so much I dont know about thai history - its not something that was really taught in school but I am so happy to be learning now!
For this show, they have very closely followed the novels (there are two). I feel like either Anin and Pin fell at the same time, or Pin fell first, and Anin fell soon after, but harder. Anin is 15 and Pin is 16 in this episode.

I really enjoyed your reaction. You two were actually focused on the story. Just some backstory: they are related by title, but not by blood. Lady Pin's aunt, aunt Pat, was adopted by Anil's grandfather. So Anil's dad and Aunt Pat are technically siblings. This is set in the 50s. Things to keep in mind when watching is the culture difference from western culture and also the time period. As royalty, no one should be physically above you and the feet is the lowest point. So when Aunt Pat said Anil was disgraced, she meant that as a princess Anil should not have bowed down to suck on Pins snake wound. Rank plays a huge part in the culture, so keep that in mind when watching. Looking forward to the next episode! You'll love this series, it's well written, directed and acted. ❤
Actually, they are also related by blood. Anil is Pin's *far* aunt by blood. In the book there's a full chart of their family relationships showing this.

I enjoyed your reaction to Episode 1 and really look forward to having you catch up with all the other episodes 2-12 and further. I was going to fill you in on some items of Thai culture pertaining to the story, but I noticed other comments letting you in some of the finer details. So you should now have a clearer understanding of the story backdrop, cast of characters, era, and true Thai culture. In the novel, Anin's (Anil) parents are written as the actual Thai King and Queen of the time in the capital city of Bangkok. Thus making Anin a royal princess and her brothers are royal princes.
Has anyone explain their relationship? Aunt Patt (Than Ar Pattamika Kasidit) is Khun Pin's paternal aunt, she was adopted by Lady Klai, mother of Prince Sawettawarit (Anil's Dad) and was raised close to him. Aunt Patt and Khun Pin are like ladies-in-waiting, they attend to the needs of Sawettawarit Family but they held noble titles because they are from the other branch of the family. Anin is Pin's youngest aunt, but Pin is a year older. You'll learn their culture and customs as the show progress.

Even though it is a made up story but The drama reflects the true lifestyle of the Thai royal family in the 50s - 60s . The upper class often sent their children to study in Europe. Thailand has been culturally influenced by the West. and mixed with Thai culture This is not a made-up country like Genovia. 🙂

The pacing of the show is kinda slow there will not be much drama just here nd there you will see. Actual drama will peak very late. It's mostly sweet things and alot of thai culture like foods and all. Because thailand government is funding the show to promote thai culture.

Great reaction. This series is really good, be prepared to cry laugh and be excited. Each episode gets better and better. I’m new to your channel. Is Abby your daughter?
@@menee_zay yes! Abby is my daughter! ❤️❤️❤️ I am so glad to have someone to watch it with! I am imagining it’s going to be a rollercoaster!
@@Yearinreviewbl well heads up y’all. There will be lots of kissing and spicy scenes. You and Abby brace yourselves. Apart from that I hope you two immerse yourself into the story line and connect with the characters. This is one of the most beautiful love stories that will unfold before your eyes. You will learn a lot about the Thai culture and traditions. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Btw Prik is my favorite character.
@@menee_zay I am so excited (and nervous - maybe I’ll cover her eyes 😉 just kidding!) I love seeing them make the desserts and everything so far! I can’t wait to keep watching!
Even though it is a made up story but The drama reflects the true lifestyle of the Thai royal family in the 50s - 60s . The upper class often sent their children to study in Europe. Thailand has been culturally influenced by the West. and mixed with Thai culture This is not a made-up country like Genovia. 🙂

@@Anjaneya676 we will definitely do the whole series!
The pacing of the show is kinda slow there will not be much drama just here nd there you will see. Actual drama will peak very late. It's mostly sweet things and alot of thai culture like foods and all. Because thailand government is funding the show to promote thai culture.
I’m sure we will love every moment! Sometimes it’s nice to have a slower paced show ❤
