    Nothing like a beautiful stone pathway. Agree with you on placing the fossils. I collect rare books and antiques. Many wonder why we let people handle them. We just feel there was no value in hiding them or keeping people from connecting physically with history. Those guys did a great job.

      I feel the same way. I wouldn't even be able to personally enjoy them stowed away in a box-let alone anyone else. Now, every morning that I walk out, I get to physically enjoy them in their element. Even this morning, a blue jay was picking at one (for some reason), so it's nice to see others interacting with them. Thank you!

    Love the fossil idea. A house I lived in as a child had all these fossil rock slabs that we used for steps , sidewalks and flower beds. I loved looking at them and trying to find the many different ones.

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, same idea. Wish we had more dramatic fossils locally here, but alas, they are mainly small little mussel-like creatures.

    Oh, the larger sized stones make the pathway so much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, love the way that entire project was done. Perfectly creative proportion. Stepping stone paths through the beds are not only a nice touch, but practical for bed maintenance as well.

    Gorgeous. Just calls out to meander down the paths. I suspect it’s just the beginning. As you keep developing your land and creating more pockets of beauty, more paths will be done. It’s remarkable what you have done already in a very short period of time. So many projects and so much done by you, Sanders and Joey. Bravo to you and your homestead.

    It looks fantastic, they did a beautiful job. I love your reasoning behind including your fossils, it's always best to enjoy nice things rather than always keeping them tucked away in storage for fear of them getting worn or damaged. Looking forward to seeing the thyme fill in little cracks between stones and spread, it'll look (and smell) amazing.

    ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Great planning, great crew. Your sneeky paths force people to 'slow down' and enjoy their walk through the gardens. Thank you again Summer for sharing your passions with me and of course others. :0) I hope Sanders healing path from Lyme's is working for him. Namaste

      We found out from Finger Lakes Stone (where we got the stone from), that this selection of stone is only found in a very specific part of their quarry, so we were lucky enough to have gotten it....and we barely had enough. Didn't realize how much this path would actually take.

    Omg I went to Villa de Leya. There was a Museum of fossils too, hope you found it. It’s was in the outskirts and we were brave to hike to it. Hitched a cab ride back.

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the Museum was actually built around the large fossil of the Kronosaurus they discovered. Initially the foreign archeologist wanted to acquire the fossil and ship it to a foreign country, and instead the Colombians said, "No way" and instead built the museum right around that fossil.

    What a beautiful pathway. Can you explain why you determined that using the geotextile was necessary under the crusher run?
    Thank you!

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mud from underneath over time will seep up through the crusher run, so it's advisable to put a barrier. That's more of an issue than having weeds moving in.

    We have a shopping mall with a polished marble? floor. People are just walking all over it and I am photographing fossilised shells. You have a beautiful fossil collection. I just wonder about safe snow removal.. What is OK, softer plastic shovels or soft brushes, for powder snow? Maybe just let the snow melt and crunch crunch over it in Winter or just don't shovel the 'gems' ? That team really made a great statement in stone, to last an eternity. So beautiful. The sneaky paths are appealing too. The kids will love exploring there st Flock.

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We discussed snow removal, but we actually rarely ever do snow removal in this area. We have a separate door that we enter that doesn't engage these paths at all, so we likely won't use any snow removal methods over the path. That was the same exact question Dave O'Brien asked about in regards to placing the smaller fossils, and we shared with him the same. So now we're definitely not going to be taking any ice pick or snow shovel over this. We'll see, however, if any of them get heaved out. Best way to know I suppose is just wait and observe :)

      @@FlockFingerLakesWhew. Glad to hear that. Another subject, do you know Polygonum Multiflorum? I've seen a hard shampoo bar advertised, which is supposed to darken your hair and reverse hair loss. I guess you'd have to be careful and just use it on your head. 😂 The hair should end up looking like a waterfall. Enjoy the view. I heard geese flying South, last week.}}}}}}}}} >

    Was that Gaura Lindheimeri just before you start talking? I got one recently and did not regret it 😄Edit: Also I'm curious, do you have Phacelia somewhere on the property? I was pleasantly surprised that it just came up in my front garden (in NL), which goes quite nicely with the earlier mentioned plant 🙂

    • @FlockFingerLakes
      @FlockFingerLakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You got it! It's a LOVELY plant. Wonderful, long blooming, delicate and such a great generalist pollinator plant. We also have Oenothera gaura (Guara biennis) and it is a MUCH taller plant. Tops out at around 6-7 ft tall here and the bees love that too. Very prolific but the flowers appear to be more delicate.
