Great video! The 125XC, you could hear it bogging down and inability to make power. Zero low end. The YZ125X sounded rich. Notice when it stalled when hot and it was hard to re-start? Generally a too rich condition. Seems even just some air screw tuning would have improved it and likely would have stalled fewer times. I ride some trails like this and it definitely showed that the 125XC is race mode only as opposed to the YZ125X at least surviving a hard trail ride.
Yeah, you are correct the YZ125X is still too rich for our elevation. Yeah, I was really surprised with the results and thought it would be the opposite. The more dialed in we get on the YZ the more I like it. I am sure with a better rider, you could go up this a bit faster than I which would help both bikes. Thanks for your input.
That is why I rode a tricked out CRF230! 5k total invested in it, full suspension conversion, Engines only piston and cam, 100% reliable and bulletproof, Rode mountain single track of Tennessee. I never once said…. “It’s not smoking yet”.
Thats a great video buddy and a nice ride, I'm sure is very difficult to ride on that terrain, I have a 2020 yz125x and also a 2021 250fx, they're both a lot of fun, but the 250fx is definitely much stronger and easier to ride for the same reason, the traction is a huge advantage on the fx, how did you feel going up that hill on the 250fx
Great vid. I've been considering all 4 of these bikes. Makes the case for the 250 for sure. I almost had a 250rx yesterday but the dealer tried to slip in some extra charges and made me lose trust...stupid dealers!!
Well my favorite pants are the shift recon with pockets but they don’t make them anymore. Troy Lee, MSR, O’Neal, and FLY Racing what I have the most of.
How did you feel about the stock Jetting in the ys125x? I have one and it is super blubbery on the low end , not smooth. Had to change pilot jet and needle to get it to not run so rich
I would love to see how the Stic Super X carb on my 23 yz125x would go up that climb. It has such a wide linear power curve now that people think it's a 150! Riding steep technical climbs with little to no run up, it lugs up things so much easier than my factory keihin did with a lot less clutch needed. No bolt-on mod alone came close to the power increase from right off idle to over rev.
@dirtbikesam , yes. After the impressive gains from the X carb, I got the power bug, I installed a TSP cylinder head with their ignition module, pro circuit pipe, and a yz125 power valve governor spring ( as its softer and opens faster compared to the 125x's, to reduce the 'hit') The gains from the other bolt ons only added a slight increase in power compared to what the X carb was able to achieve on its own, I would fit the X carb before a cylinder head, pipe change or big bore kit.
its a tough trail and its really steep. Over revving can cause wheel spin so its a balance of clutch work with proper throttle control. We have a bunch of other videos on this same trail with different machines that do MUCH better than the these 125's in fact our 2024 KTM 150XCW has the fastest time up it so far.
Yeah they are not designed or geared for that type of slow riding. They are such fun bikes but we wanted to show them in the desert open terrain, moto track and single track.
Lack of e start is why I sold my 250X yesterday. And I bet the Yamaha clutch is going to fail in short order as well. I wouldn't blame the KTM clutch, I would blame the rider.

wow sounds like a sweet bike! Yeah, they are bulletproof.

Thanks, I have that video scheduled for next week for the 250FX and 250RX. Stay tuned for those hot laps.
@@dirtbikesam I'm waiting for those videos 🫡

All are awesome bikes!
Man is it hard to tell how steep this is on video. Real clutch cooker!
Yes its REALLY step and I did cook the clutch on the KTM125XC
Are you posting the 4 strokers? I did a Yamaha demo day and enjoyed the 125x over the 250fx.
Yes, the 250Fs, ktm 300XCW, and the Beta 200RR lap times
If Yamaha would just put a little money into their X models they could take a HUGE piece of the enduro market
Agreed
I just wish they made a Yz200x
agreed
ktm has more marketing gimmicks but the YZ will always kick ass!
YZ for the win on this day!
Where is it you are riding? What city and state? Beautiful terrain
The area is called Monte Cristo Utah, this is on our private cabin property.
What gear do you normally cruise in

Yeah the stock jetting is for sea level we run from 4000-10000 feet so we have been trying to get it right and we are close but it’s not perfect yet
@@dirtbikesam oh wow. Yea I am like 300ft lol. Mid and top are mint with stock. Just 0-1/4 throttle are boggy
@@ngrimm0here in wv iv got mine pretty mint now with the nydf needle 2nd clip 162 main jet and a 62 pilot runs really really good all around

Sounds like a cool carb. You do any other mods to your bike?

Yz is great . I have a 2006 yz125 I’m turning into an x version . I have to figure out jetting though . Thing runs real rich
Great bikes for sure
@@dirtbikesam the best
Is this trail as hard it looks in the video, or were you just not giving it much revs on some spots?

@@dirtbikesam yeah right, GoPro made it look like it wasn't that steep
Yz125x 2024 9onces flywheel weight and 12-52 ratios good for hard enduro
Thanks for the info
I am running the same gear ratios but no fly wheel weight. It does handle the step tech stuff a lot better.
wow was that in 1st gear on KTM ?
Yes it was
Considering you tried riding them like a bigger bore and just crawled they really didn’t do bad

Oh I am sure its me but still sucks that I couldn't make it to the top with the KTM because of the smoked clutch.
