Man, crazy that Hotashi has came to the same realization of "Man I need to be godlike at footsies to beat 2MKs on the 5." And also went like "Guys I need help pls" Makes me feel a lot better about reaching out
I always liked Adrian approach to games, while watching him play league years ago I could reach GM myself copying some things he did, even in fighting games he makes a good teacher
I love deep and complex insights into fighting game situations. These are things one rarely get a chance to see. This should be a good video for newcomers to watch and listen as to how players should investigate how to beat situations in fighting games
That’s cool that Big Bird got back to you quickly about the matchup because he knows the Ken matchup better than anyone, But yeah, people saying “just be the best in the world,” aren’t helping.
Adrian was very helpful explaining basic neutral in SF. For all those more new to SF improving at that aspect of the game is going to come down to observation of player tendencies. And not simply raw reaction speed and specific matchup knowledge. Thumbs up for putting this out there. Will be really helpful for others running into a similar "brick wall".
The conversation these two are having probably happen in the blink of an eye for top tier players. They see something and they have an inner monologue about to beat it within the time it takes for a match (or round) to happen. Thats how I know I'm stuck in Plat2 until SF7
Omg, that was all so useful to learn. I was having trouble with a Deejay that kept walking back and poking with this sliding low kick. I'm guessing I can use some of that walking them into the corner tactics next time. Loved learning this about Jenrai kicks, can't wait to start punishing that.
Wild watching this because this match up gives me very similar feelings to fighting 3s Chun, especially as a meterless Urien. Very good info here, still a very tough predicament to be sure.
It is not about frame data. They are discussing how to make a winnable approach for Marisa as in general she loses most neutral situations against Ken.
Thanks for the video, really helpful. It also helps for weaker players like me to learn even strong players like Hotashi don't find the game easy. I just need to remember this when I'm playing the game.
Great video and theory. I have SF6 but I've only played it a couple times. I want to start playing it regularly and actually "start" playing it but I've watched a fair number of videos. I haven't played a fighting game for a long time where footsies plays such a big role so this is all really helpful. Thanks for showing that you're not afraid to be humbled. I've been following you for a good minute and between your music and gameplay, you never disappoint even if you get thrashed.
This is the reason a character is higher than another at some tier lists, because of this, HOWEVER! it doesn't mean you have to play a tier S character to be successful, you just need to learn and adapt!
I do like Adrian's explanation. Marisa has a different win condition than Ken, but Hotashi is playing her like she and Ken have the same win condition. Marisa's goal in this matchup has nothing to do with consistently whiff punishing your opponent in footsies. She doesn't have the walk speed for that, especially against Ken. Her goal is to win by stage positioning and meter management. A Ken with 100% life but is in the corner basically is even with a Marisa with 50-60% life who has corner advantage. Both just have to win 2 interactions to end the match.
K so L jinrai can't be followed up and is punishable on block M jinrai kicks has a gap between the TC and can be DI'd as a result H jinrai kicks is safe if connects, but can be interrupted by a 4 framer between the target combo And all of them can be drive reversaled? Ok ok good stuff to know, struggling with ken as well sometimes
Ngl this just sounds a lot like nago in a different flavor. Nago emits pressure on the mental stack because there's so much stuff to pay attention to and he's able to throw in random stuff that constantly just destroys the one option they had to give up in their mental stack. I think Idom is right when he says the game is a bit random. GGXRD was kind of like that sometimes. I think SF6 just has a lot more Chipp characters as you previously stated.
I really love the fact adrian gave examples and help. But he is missing HUGE diffence. If i get ken IN the corner. He has SO many options to get himself OUT. Combo me to get WAY out of the corner, a dp, super, di, or even a small combo into dragon lash putting ME in the corner. Lol. No other character has the options ken has.
I’m not a good player by any means, but I have noticed over the years that I am in these neutral type of situations that feel so overwhelming for the average player to handle. I’ve been wondering if it’s due to the rise of lever-less controllers(or even pad) making it seem like im incapable of playing neutral anymore. People are able to move like a machine and block and it’s less about trying to figure out a rhythm. Edit: Or maybe I’m just getting old.
I'll be honest, I don't think it's an input device issue. The FGC is generally just improving as time goes on. The average new player now is leaps and bounds ahead of the average new player a decade ago. Better teaching tools in game, better community resources outside of the game, and a general mentality shift from winning to improving add up.
I think the large majority of people aren't on levelers controllers for various reasons, a combination of cost, availability and awareness they even exist.
@@faragaroruga3229 Hasn't many top players in multiple fighting games swapped to lever-less? I guess there must be some advantage there over stick then?
Is there a guide on how to play those close quarters situations specifically? It’s by far the thing that’s the hardest for me to understand in this game. Adrian gives some good answers here but I’m looking for something even more in depth.
The only other one I know is titled “Daigo’s advice will change your world”, but I feel like it’s too big brain for me. I need something that people in Plat/Diamond could understand.
Or you could take the sf5 approach and find the range where you can threaten dash, Dr, di, jump, or poke and rotate between those options mindlessly lol
This is a lesson you learn the quickest if you play a grappler, you have worse footsies normals so you main tactic is to simply microwalk and pressure.
Ken is a problem. Every other matchup i feel like i have a solid shot, but Ken has no weaknesses, so many options and easy damage. And there are soooooo many in ranked.
So what did we learn today kids. The characters are dope, the players using them suck. A video, a tier list, it doesnt matter. YOU have to get good, period.
So this is how players from other games get good so fast. They have access to free coaching from the best players in the world. The only shot us casuals have is either paying someone who is good to help us or become popular content creators to get our foot in the door.
Adrian: “You have to breathe oxygen, or else you die”
Hotashi: “Yea, but my problem is what if my lungs stop working ? “ 💀
Man, crazy that Hotashi has came to the same realization of "Man I need to be godlike at footsies to beat 2MKs on the 5." And also went like "Guys I need help pls" Makes me feel a lot better about reaching out
yeah, he's literally an EVO winner but we all have to start somewhere

It’d be so great to get a Ken guide from Adrian. 🥺👉👈
Lol yeah dude's goated. Definitely my favorite LoL creator.
adrian riven was so real for this

Deejays slide is highly unsafe on block so you can punish it unless it's spaced perfetly. Deejays should not be using that move as a poke.
I link this video almost every day to explain the concept of spacing and pressure to people, thank you so much for this resource, Mr Hotashi.
Excellent video, Adrian has some great insights!

this video: master rank dragged a master rank into training mode to learn frame data
So glad community guidelines won't let me call you what you really are. Go see the titanic in a tin can.
Yeah I understand the frustration of hard matchups but it’s kind of funny he had no idea how to deal with jinrai or even the mp string lol

Thank you Mr. Adrian.
"just play perfectly, bro."
Damn Adrian is a dope teacher.
great video! looking forward to the "Riven Runback" !
Not gonna sugarcoat it, Jinrai Kicks is a cheesy move man
weird seeing adrian riven dominating in SF6 with the same fashion as hes is dominating with riven in League.
As a wise man once said:
“Pick a top tier, just pick a top tier”
I’d love to know if any of this applies to Honda too. If he has any tools to deal with Ken? He’s my lowest win rate match up.
What if you use OD qcb parry? Or use D HK to punish whiff?

I kinda knew how Jinrai works, but I didn’t realize that you can fuzzy DI and if it doesn’t come out just mash crouch light
