    Whenever I make my calcium powder I boil the shells then I put them in the oven for 2-3 hours to dry them. It works really really well I've never had a problem with mold!

    You can bake the egg shells on cookie sheet for 10-15 minuets350degrees. Coffee grinder works great. After boiling hard boil eggs you can use the water to put on your plants.

    I have some limestone rocks in my tank. Do you think they would leach enough calcium in to the water? The rocks do have algae growing on them - I'm not sure if that means if the snails eat the algae they will get calcium the algae got out of the rock, or if the algae will trap the calcium inside the rock....... what do you think?

    cuttlefish bones have a very distinctive fishy and oily texture and smell which deters tortoises from eating it. They need to be leached by boiling or left to hang for a week in rainy conditions. Many breeds of tortoise ( especially horsfield and spur thigh ) can become sick by eating untreated cuttlefish.

      Jennifer Tropiano you can just drop one in your tank and they will eat at it as is. (less trouble than eggshells or cuttlebones but if may harm fish so i dont use them) Just dont use the mint flavored Tums.

    Hi There! Love your videos! I am a new apple snail owner...just got my Melvin about a week ago now. I have added him in a 10 gallon with a group of 3 Glo Tetras. I would like to put some calcium powder in the tank for my apple snail, but am wondering how/if it will affect my fish. Can I put some in the tank for him and if not, what is a good way to get him calcium? I did feed him some baby spinach (well rinsed) for a treat this week (he loved it!) and was thinking of broccoli for a treat this week. Thanks!

      steven more put it into homemade snail/fish gelatin food. i have a video called "simple snail jello" where i made some for my snails and added a whole lot of this powder into it and it doesn't cloud up my water. i also have another video called 'snowing on apple snails" where i just dropped it in and they ate it straight off the bottom. it does cloud up your water a bit but it clears up right away :)

    • @Idgixgxjgx
      @Idgixgxjgx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salmonella is a gram negative bacteria that requires the hen to be infected for an egg to potentially become infected. There's less than .01% chance you'll receive an infected egg from an infected chicken. Eggs are vigorously washed off before being sent to grocery stores, to remove bacteria and fecal matter. But in the case that you did receive an infected egg, assuming you kept it at an appropriate refrigerated temperature, salmonella would not be able to grow from the cold temp. 😊

      +Lily Liang Nop! How else would you get confection sugar, it's the same way. Instead of buying from the store, you just get plain old sugar and blend it and it becomes fine just like store bought confection sugar. Blenders are made for stuff like this. I use my blender to grind my horse's flaxseeds into powder consistancy.

      Academic Egg
      all consumable calcium is a calcium compound(calcium carbonate, usually). Not sure where you'd find pure calcium.
