    We have a series of videos planned as soon as the lockdown eventually lifts - including some discussions on different armies and periods, building an army, and some more advanced gameplay videos, scenarios and such.

      @@MrGunnar177 Unfortunately Simon has had a string of bad health issues and we've put off doing further videos until he has recovered. I'm hoping things will get back to normal this month and we can start the series again.

      Hi. Been a rough lockdown here, and Simon has been unwell, but he has some more videos here: th-cam.com/channels/PemvpT3ANJ45P9XXGgTcLA.html.
      and mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/meg/tutorial-videos/
      Looks like our lockdown is going to raise levels here again soon too, but I'm hoping we have a chance to do some more eventually. I might have to just do some solo ones if it goes on much longer.

      @@Vortigernrex Thanks for the quick respond and link.
      I see, luckily here in germany the lockdown was not so harcore.
      I can´t find online here in germany any Compendium Boxed Sets . Can i just start with the sperate book and dice, without the cards?

    • @Vortigernrex
      @Vortigernrex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sharkur You will need either cards or counters of certain colours for the initiative system. You could make your own temporary ones until they become available, by painting counters or disks. You'll need:
      Black: 8
      White: 12
      Green: 14
      Yellow: 10
      Red: 6

      @@sharkur Yes you can. You can easily make your self set of Mortem et Gloriam command discs or order them from places in the UK such as Geoff Pearson at Lasercaft. Although the German PSC stockists can get you the compendium set - just ask them.

    Hi, can I ask about the basing for this? How does it compare to things like DBA or other popular systems on the market?
    I grabbed one of the army packs on PSC but wondered about how to base them, figures per base, width, depth, etc.
    Thanks!

    • @Vortigernrex
      @Vortigernrex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very similar to DBA. The basing also scales so if you're playing with 28mm vs 15mm they are usually different. Standard 15mm scale (the PSC models) are generally based on 40mm wide bases, which are 20mm deep for infantry, 30mm deep for mounted and 40mm deep (ie square) for things like elephants, artillery, chariots, etc. Generals can be based however you like (I put mine on round bases to make them stand out), others base them on the 40x40 bases and make little command dioramas.
      Close order troops are normally 4 models to a base, loose order are 3 and skirmish are 2.
      But it is a very flexible system. You can even base your models individually and move them on movement trays. I believe Simon, the author, has a fair bit of info here on different types of basing people use:

    How does this ruleset handle the Roman manipular formation in-terms of its flexibility and ability to interchange ?

    • @Vortigernrex
      @Vortigernrex  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a flexible rating so with an order can change from open to close or vice versa, and it takes lower levels of control to change formation, direction, etc. If you have a range of terrain on the table you have a big advantage against more rigid units like phalanx.

    Single activation movement toing and throwing on movement loses my interest, always feels wrong to me like I'm playing chess. Still I am keen to try these rules once we get out of lockdown. Like the rest of the mechanics. Thanks for the Demo.

    • @CCC_GAMES
      @CCC_GAMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think of it more as how the turn develops. Moving a whole army while the enemy stand still feels dull and wrong to me. As you are moving big bocks of units together - which you don't see in this simple example - you don't get the chess feel. But a really interesting evolution of each turn where each player is reacting and interfering with enemy actions rather than letting the do everything. You will see that if you look at a video of one the big games. I can see how you might feel it wrong before you see what it does in practice.

    • @CCC_GAMES
      @CCC_GAMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Put another way int h early days you move massive lines, then it break into units, then it breaks into bases. So you get the feel of big battle and evolving chaos.

    Sticking to the current trend of new rulesets MeG is knee deep in unnecessary quirky mechanisms. Modern rule writers seem obsessed with coming up with mechanisms that are gamey and lose sight of trying to create a set which portray, in this particular case, ancient warfare.
    Certainly not my bag but no doubt it will appeal to those who like throwing dice about regardless!

    • @MrElliptific
      @MrElliptific 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed

    • @CCC_GAMES
      @CCC_GAMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well the mechinisms so far are being praised for creating the best portrayal of ancient warfare so far. First time people feel armies and battles feel right. Its the colour system invention that allows that to happen in an easy manner that is fast moving. The key isn't the dice but he command and control system. The dice make it fast and fun to get to the right feel. It won't be for everyone bit if you want to refight historical ancients battles with a realistic feel it works really well for that. There are some good articles about how it does it in WI by Joh. Lamshead one of the Hail Caesar supplement authors. So just don't right it off without taking a look at some games in action at an event - you might get a very clever surprise.

    The cap, cards and dice made me think he was playing poker. I just see gimmicks involving money... cards, dice, tokens... etc

    • @CCC_GAMES
      @CCC_GAMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am always suspsicious of custom dice etc as sometimes they seem there for no purpose. But this one is a system around colours that has a very specific outcome profile that took me some designing to get right. So rest assured no gimmicks. But I can imagine some of you seeing it that way at first glance. We have also got tokens instead of cards and everything now has the rears printed to match and blend into the tabletop so its looks lovely.

    Very interesting mechanics, especially with the dice... but am concerned that those mechanics make it gamey, a little Saga-ish... Hope I'm wrong.

    • @CCC_GAMES
      @CCC_GAMES 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually is does the opposite - especially in the big game. It is being praised hugely for feeling very historical and correct. Plus every refight we have done has worked really well. A good thing.

      I haven't heard much from the UK supplier. If you can get the rulebook online though, dice and all else can be substituted for generic dice, coloured counters, and such - you don't strictly need customised dice, measuring sticks, cards, etc. Maybe check their website though for those updates.
