      Nero was not as bad as people think he was. Most of the Nero hate came from his enamies who replaced him and produced a lot of propaganda which served as post hoc justification to replace the first Roman Imperial dynasty the Julians.
      Caligula one of his predecessors was much worse.

    If anything the war in Ukraine has shown Russia has lost it's superpower status, their army is clearly not as impressive as one might have thought before the war started.

    • @markbryant4641
      @markbryant4641 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only if you follow the war as it's been misrepresented to us from the start. Nearly every narrative told to us by our media and pro-Ukraine commentary has been a lie.
      If you do some research you'll find that what Russia is doing, and how they're doing it is very smart and will lead to victory. They will win. There's literally nothing Ukraine can do to win.
      The biggest criticism Russia gets from us is the slow pace of the frontline and each battle.
      This is a perfect example of our overall misunderstanding.
      Also keep in mind that Ukraine's military is very good. Not so much anymore, but when Russia went in Ukraine had by far the best military in Europe. If you took the US out, the entirety of Europe's NATO military could not have taken over Ukraine.

    BRICS+ (the 'plus' version of BRICs) is quite literally the 'poor relation' of the global economy. While BRICS+ has 45.77% of the global population, it only has 28.33% of the global GDP (and if it wasn't for China, it would be a rounding error in terms of global GDP). Given Russia and China's current demographic and economic issues, we may have already passed 'peak BRICs' in terms of BRICs' share of global GDP. The commentary has already switched from China's "economic miracle" and speculation as to when it might become the world's biggest economy, to discussion of China's economic problems, and whether it can now *ever* overtake the US economy, especially as the aging demographics start to bite in coming decades. One of the few positive outcomes of Russian invasion of Ukraine is the international response with economic sanctions on Russia has probably given China second thoughts about any future military action outside of mainland China. After all, the sanctions on Russia were limited by global reliance on Russia's oil, gas and food exports -- but China is a net importer of oil, gas and food, and it's economic success is largely dependent on exports (due to a limited domestic demand vs. capacity), so China would be even more badly hit if it ever came under even moderately severe economic sanctions. It will be interesting to see if things deteriorate amongst the BRICs economies, whether in-fighting between these 'friends without limits' starts to eventuate in coming years...

    6:51 The BRICS Games ran a trial where imaginary athletes from imaginary countries could compete, in an attempt to increase attendance. Of course, this resulted in official attendance records and results becoming inconsistent, not only because the officials struggled to find them, but also because some of the imaginary countries had country codes that clashed with real-world countries, including those Russia considered "unfriendly".

    This channel provides a perspective and insight that 1) I did not know about and 2) is very interesting, presented in a relaxed and easy to listen to style. Especially impressive the way “unusual Russian” speaks continuously at length with no chopped editing. This episode “How Small Russia Is Desperately Trying To Look Big” is a fascinating look into the hall of mirrors that the state attempts to implant into the people’s minds. One wonders what proportion of the population actually lives in this reality, probably a good many. George Orwell would be impressed (and depressed).
