I'll try and be brief in my comment as my replies go on for ever lol. That was 100% a coalfish as the lateral is different, the colour is also different with no gold and the jaws are equal in length while the pollacks bottom jaw will come out further than the top. Good eating but the meat has a grey tinge to it while the pollack is white. Where you were casting in front of the daleks is where the old oil pipeline was and it's still there lol. It goes under the daleks and oil was pumped from the oil tankers to a massive storage tank on the old shell complex. From there it would be pumped up to Rhosgoch and then to Stanlow. The biggest oil tankers in the world came to Amlwch which at the time were the Belamaia and it's sister ship the Batavus. Not sure about the spelling, but they were massive and had to turn off their engines at Holyhead and drift down just to be able to stop at Amlwch. Shell actually built the breakwater and the pens opposite where 2 big tugs were moored up to service the tankers. I think its Welsh water who owns the Shell site and further on the Octel site and run a sewage treatment works there. If you had gone over to the left and they saw you then the security would have come over or the police called. Oh an yes I've also had my eye on fishing the old Dakota wreck from the shore for many years. The mark you fished is a good one with deep water and good tidal flow but I prefer it in winter and I've had some good codling from there in numbers. Fish from the concrete barrel and give it a lazy lob 70 yards slightly to the left with some fresh ragworm or black lug and after dark. Not that I would lol, but if I was going to try and fish that wreck i would be entering from the Bull Bay side of the old Octel complex. From where you were there's a river called the red river that flows down from Parys Mountain and enters the sea full of old copper ore and acid and you would have to cross that. The rocks there are bleached white with no seaweed or anything growing on them. One last thing is the big hill or mound overlooking the harbour on the breakwater side is all rubbish covered in stone and gravel. Before Shell built the complex it used to be an old rubbish tip all the way down to the sea where the bin men would tip their waste etc and old cars dumped and Shell just covered it all over. I was a baby at the time but within 2 weeks of the tip being closed Amlwch was plagued by rats. There was no food going in for them and they came out of there in one massive hoard and I remember my Mother saying that you couldn't see the back garden for them. She and the woman next door had their names in the paper for shooting rats from their bedroom windows but remember that was before XBox lol. I won't bore you anymore, good session and you didn't blank which is the main thing. So much for a short reply, take care buddy.

I forgot to mention that the breakwater used to be on 2 levels. Next time you'll notice what I mean. The part with the wall used to be 8ft higher than the rest of it. About 10 years ago it was showing a lot of cracks so what they did is put shuttering all around the bottom half and filled it with concrete. Also if the breakwater is full of anglers then fish the old slipway. From the car park at Llamcarw where you fished last time,. Just come out of the car park and follow the wall down. to the rocks. It's slightly to the left and you can't miss it as all that's left are 2 square brick platforms. From there you will be casting into the same area as you would from the breakwater but you will have peace and quiet.

They were put there by Shell as their pipeline goes out from there and under the blocks. They were put there in the 1970's and they also built the breakwater. I know because I saw them doing it buddy. There used to be a rock outcrop where the breakwater is and it was called "trwyn penwaig" or in English "herring point." You are right about the dragons teeth they did use them to stop the Germans landing. They are some all over the country but these were just to stop anglers mooring up there. They even had them inland to stop the tanks in their tracks.

He is right about the dragons teeth however Shell put these there in the 1970's. They were put there to protect the pipeline and to stop anglers mooring up. I do have old photos from before Shell built everything but I have no way of sending them to you.
