Don Quixote is a book, a really important and iconic one in Spanish literature! So basically the story it's about "Don Quixote de La Mancha", which it's not the protagonist real name btw. La Mancha it's the name of the place where everything happens. Don Quixote is an old man "obsessed" with chivalry novels, to the point he went crazy and started to believe he himself was a knight. He decided to go in an adventure trying to find his "Princess Dulcinea", while doing this he took his horse "Rocinante" and his (neighbor) companion "Sancho Panza" with him; his behavior and actions were based of his own interpretation of what chivalry was. He got himself in trouble bc of that. Even if people told him he was crazy, he continued with his adventure and doing what he wanted (even if that hurt him). I think shadow is more about their inner shadows and embracing even the negative parts of oneself instead of an actual other person.. But I see how i can be interpreted that way

So Don Quixote is the main character of an old Spanish novel who basically wants to be a hero and make the world an overall better place, but things don't really turn out how he wants no matter his efforts. His ideas and view of the world are a little disillusioned and not realistic. If you like to read classic literature I highly recommend it. It was also eventually adapted into a ballet.

He gets in some trouble as society views him as a mad man but he continues on his own way. The La Mancha's windmill refer to these windmills that he fights thinking that they are giants. The major message/ moral that is that he forges his own path toward what he believes is right and will lead to happiness even if there is opposition or society telling him that it's wrong. He is obviously insane, but the dramatic irony is what if he is actually the sane one and society is crazy. It brings up the question that individuals could be right and that society could be wrong. He's often used in metaphors/symbolism as like a trailblazer of sorts.
