I have the second generation, the Euro Lion Mk 2 which I bought new in 2002. It's been a great gun. That model was an early Superior Steel proofed 3 inch mag. with a very well made barrel. I chose it over a Beretta because it was much lighter, weighing only 6.5 lbs and handled so much better. But it was only after I had shot it a few seasons I realised the quality of build. I use it mainly for Wildfowling and have shot mostly large steel shot through tighter chokes than recommended and 20 years later the barrel is almost unmarked. Also, my gun has a super paint type finish on the barrel and action which has made it corrosion proof. It's been submerged briefly in the North Sea three times in twenty seasons and there is no rust anywhere on the gun. The only sign of the abuse I have given the gun is the clear coat lacquer on the Tri Wood finish has peeled : )

I bought one and think it is a great S/A. If you look at the gas system you can tell it is well engineered and very easy to clean, but will go hundreds of rounds without a problem. If you compare the gas system to an A400 it looks like a mechanical engineer designed the Fabarm and a blacksmith designed the A400, but they both have about the same price. I also think the chokes in the Fabarm are superior.

The weight and stock dimensions of this gun are great i wish they would put the bolt release on the right and not left but that’s just me a step up rib like what benelli and beretta would be a improvement but that’s my opinion they feel great and there not expensive at £1495 new !

  • @cavalerajr43

I bought the L4S Initial Hunter earlier this year and love it. Primary use is grouse hunting and clays. Had it out twice since I bought it and ran about 100 rounds of different brand ammo through it with no issues.
Stripped it down to the bolt assembly, cleaned it and reassembled after both outings. This is my only experience with a gas autoloader but it’s really only a few more steps to strip it down than my Montefeltro with the inertia action which I do love how simple that is. But like you say, the engineering is great and Fabarm has the tolerances on this thing nailed down. Nothing rattles or clicks or feels cheap. Also love how it patterns and the chokes are great.
Agreed on the price point, but sporting shotguns always seem to run higher. I paid $1500 for my base model and just a few years ago they could be had new for about $1200. I think they’re all a bit overpriced, Benellis, Brownings, Berettas any big name. You definitely pay for what you get with this one.

I own one of these , and had many. In my opinion is the best on the market , with it the only auto on the market that you can use steel through every choke , and the barrel tested to 1600 plus , which higher than the high end autos , so in my opinion best for your money .

I have an L4S sporting and was actually shooting at Oxford Gun Companies grounds on Saturday.
Absolutely love the gun, ultra reliable, I just wish I could easily adjust the POI up slightly to make it perfect for me (but that's just for my own personal fit). They retail at around £13-1400 and I think it's worth every penny.
I wouldn't say it's overly complicated, very easy to strip and clean but there is more to it than an O/U or SxS.

    • @jugi2890

Do like the look of the gun. Also believe the cycle all loads of cartridges down to 24s. When you review semi auto shotguns would like to see this tested. As I think it's a big selling point. I don't have a problem with recoil but love the 24s use them all time in my over and under bust clays just as well as 28 even at distance. Semi auto are great bit of fun on the clay ground if I had one that I had confidence in cycling all load types would even do some cpsa registered shoots with it.

Over-engineered? Perhaps it's the expectation that its ok that everything is marginally engineered these days? Plastic parts and painted pallet wood is an acceptable benchmark because that's what we get from Beretta. Ugh. Anyway, I keep looking at Fabarm precisely because the slow growing reputation that its aesthetically "there" but built like a tank on its internals.

Over engineered? It’s a gas semi automatic shotgun. There isn’t much to them so saying they’re over engineered is imo a ridiculous statement. I think they’re build quality is better and they are as good or better than what’s on the market from Browning or Beretta. It is priced a bit higher but as I mentioned, I think you’re getting a better quality gun. Lastly, review the gun, the pros, the cons, shooting impressions and cost. Leave the nonsensical commentary about “over engineering” out.

You really need to do your homework before presenting a review, L4S not L45. Not the first time you've dropped a clanger! Anyhow I bought the game version of the L4S about two years ago brand new and got change from £1K. It came with two gas pistons, the polymer pulse piston for game loads and the ordinary piston for clay loads. It also came with clever plug in sling mounts. "Over engineered", it's beautifully engineered, why would you want to detract from that. I'm seriously impressed with mine, I use it for clays wildfowling pigeons and game. The chokes are really good and throw excellent patterns. I've got a Blaser F16 and it rarely comes out of the cabinet now. I didn't know that the sporter version costs £2K, that's a lot more than I paid for mine. If you get the chance have a look at one you should have a pleasant surprise.

I have the L4S and an A400 Parallel Target; 10,000 rounds plus on each of them. The Beretta will run better dirty than the FABARM, shooting 300+ rounds per week and only cleaning the Beretta three times a year is a plus. The FABARM cannot go more than 1500 rounds before a complete tear down and cleaning; otherwise I get FTE’s. Both use extremely hard steel in the bolt and other stressed parts. The author complaining about over engineering must want a soft steel and un-Proofed Turkish mid range gun, good for what your are buying (maybe), but they won’t stand up to heavy shooting. The FABARM is lighter and livelier than any A400 and feels about the same on recoil even against the Beretta Kickoff system. Both will shoot 7/8oz to 9/8oz loads without issue. Buy the best (either one) and cry once.
