U.S. Rep. Sam Stratton represented constituents from his home base in the beautiful and historic city of Schenectady, NY. Settled by the Dutch in the 1600s, the city contains one of the oldest recognized historic districts in the nation. In 1958, Stratton ran successfully for Congress; he was reelected fourteen times, and served from 1959 to 1989.
Jacob Evans got his wish in a short time frame (for government anyway). The Law, Uniform Monday Holiday Act, was signed in June of ‘68, and went into effect in ‘71. Amendments were written to add MLK Day and, I daresay, others. Joemackey1950-so right, now, but, surprisingly, not every employer honored all of these extended holidays, even into the late ‘70s.
