My father knew of Lawrence when living at Clouds Hill. Dad was born in 1916 and joined the RTC (3 RTC) at Bovington as a boy soldier in 1932 to escape poverty. Sadly, due to my dad’s low birth and Ill education he couldn’t claim to know Lawrence.
No concern for wild birds at all! When a great tit disturbed him by tapping on the window while he was writing, he commented in a letter, that he wished someone would break its neck. In "Letters," i have the book. The little bird was probably hungry. not a nice man!!!
